yes he is evil, with all the billions invested in the defence of US they should know that Iraq hadn't made any threats to the States after 9/11 or have any arms that Bush likes to call "WMD" now 1/3 of the population is dead.

Sorry, I thought we were way past the original post of this thread, which was back in November. I was reacting to what's been said this morning. Me, I tend not to use the word "evil" to describe anything, not even George Bush. I prefer:

But not evil.

Patriotic? George Bush is interested in money and power. He's repeatedly demonstrated his utter contempt for the principles on which this country was founded. If you define "patriotic" as "flag-waving", I guess he's patriotic. Or perhaps you were thinking of Dr. Johnson's definition: the last refuge of a scoundrel.

 

Not at all, just because someone doesn't do as you would do, doesn't mean they are unpatriotic. Your charactorization of him may be accurate in your eyes, but not neccesarily in the eyes of others.

 

I'm all too painfully aware of that fact, tenguy. Did you feel it was patriotic of him to use his father's influence to get him into the Texas Air National Guard, knowing that by doing so, he wouldn't have to go to Vietnam? All this while advocating for the war, in the grand old tradition of chickenhawks....

Was it patriotic of him to tell the American public that his administration does not conduct surveillance of American citizens without a court order, knowing that his administration had been doing exactly that for more than two years at the time he said it?

Was it patriotic of him to argue that he has the authority to detain anyone he unilaterally decides is an "enemy combatent", to move them to prisons outside the U.S., there to torture them, all the time denying that any such thing is being done?

 

Again as viewed by your eyes.

His joining the Texas Air National Guard, completing flight training and serving in that capacity, is a whole lot more patriotic than some of the lefts heroes did.

The acts in part two and three above have absolutely nothing to do with patriotism, unless you spin it as patriotic to rid the country of terrorist threats.

You can cite all of the unpopular, seemingly illegal stuff you want, but it doesnot make him unpatriotic.

A patriot does what is neccesary to help his country.

Even if it means governing in ways virtually indistinguishable from the dictator of a banana republic. Bush claims powers that the Constitution does not grant him, and he exudes contempt for the system of checks and balances that safeguard the American people from it's own government.

BTW, I am not really a big GWB fan, I just think that the attacks and pure hatred for him exhibited in here are way off the mark.
