Considering your psychology background, any thoughts on the myriad responses to this factual data? I find the wide swath of reaction (from cringing to celebration to irritation) to be quite fascinating . . . after all, these are just statistical facts. I expected there to be a more consistent group value for being a "thread killer", but that hasn't been the case thus far.

Old Tool, I have many, many opinions regarding the data, and the subsequent posts following. However, because I am a professional, and could only, at best make sweeping statements regarding both of the fore-mentioned - I have not checked your data, but have accepted that it is correct - I can say only this: There are very few replies which surprise me. Members seem not to be straying far from the personalities I have witnessed previously.

What does surprise me is the disbelief that certain members feel about being reponsible for 'killing' a thread. And the members who state how 'bad' they feel about it? Nobody should be ashamed of 'having the final say': All conversations/games must end at some point, surely?

I personally feel this thread will 'live' for as long as it takes for members to tire of the game (which could be quite some time). Was this, infact, your intent? To create a thread that would equal the 'count to a million'? But in a much less obvious way? This is what I find most fascinating!

You know, the truth is that all these threads are only MOSTLY dead...there's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. MOSTLY dead...is slightly alive. These threads can be revived at any time with a magic pill. The chocolate coating makes it go down easier. And don't go in swimming for an hour after you take it.

 

I'm afraid it is much less interesting than that . . . I was simply bored in my office waiting for a series of reports to finish processing when it struck me that every thread that falls off the front page tends to stay off and that there is a record for who created the last post. I started browsing through, thought that others might find the info interesting, and recorded the data. As I was posting it I did wonder how it would be received - so far, it has been more entertaining than I predicted

 

perhaps the MODs can amend the title to read, "Thread Almost-Killers . . . " ?

Did you know that there is a school of thought which claims there is no such thing as 'coincidence'? I'm sure you are. However, if you follow that process, then there is no such thing as 'when it struck me that __' which would mean you were, at least in part, aware of how your thread would met by forum members!
