I remember when I first came here and was new and got such a hard time I tried to end my account. I'm glad I didn't end it and that I stayed. I think.

 

The first computer I used:
* 64K of memory (magnetic core!)
* 2 front-loading cartridge disk drives, 5 MB each.
* Teletype terminals with paper tape punches. No lowercase letters. Clunky and loud.
* No real-time clock; you had to type in the time every time you started it up.
* A dot-matrix printer that printed on fanfold paper, and had to be bolted to the table to keep it from sliding off.
* Broke down every 3-4 months. Field service would come out, and sometimes repair the circuit boards right there.
* Programming languages: BASIC, FORTRAN, assembler
* Cost about $11,000 in 1974 (more than most new cars)

 

In the summer eating small chips of ice from the bed of my fathers flatbed ice truck. He used to deliver the ice for iceboxes, back when.

One of the more common items in my store was a rotary dial telephone. It was fun to watch young shoppers try to press the numbers through the holes in the dial.
For special salesn we always had a washtub filled with ice and CocaCola in bottles. A bottle opener was provided, but a lot of people needed operating instructions.

 

I remember when I took public transport no-one was wearing headphones or had there head down studying a phone!

I remember when doors could be left unlocked and people could be trusted, I remember when honesty meant something and lies were regretted,
I remember when people smiled and tried to be nice to each other, just to be nice and not look to use it to advantage.
People were better in years past, everything now is an excuse for altercation, people look to start arguments among friends, looking to cause pain for enjoyment and enhance their own self image.

I think the anonymity of the internet has lowered the bar of civility in the real world and made experienced online predators of some.
I miss the days when debate was verbal and in person, when you said someone was wrong to their face like a man and they couldnt hide behind rumor, gossip and strategic maneuvering only to walk away and come back with cheap innuendo.

I miss honor and fair play, integrity and truthfulness seem to be a thing of the past, ...but this is a porn forum, reality is subjective, role playing and image projection seem to dominate and I am vastly out of my league, being rotten doesnt come easy for me.

Before everybody gets to carried away, there's a few things I don't miss and I'm glad my grandchildren will miss out on them. Before the age of 8, I contracted Measles, Mumps, and Chickenpox. Except for Chickenpox which was in the summer, each put me out of school for 10 weeks.

Don't even start on Polio.

 

We kids, my cousins and I grew up on a beach on a bay in New Jersey. Like others here we would spend the day running around playing in the summer. No one knew where or worried, but we looked out for each other, I'm sure kids still do that.

I remember having a pager when I was in high school.

I remember how good it felt to support the civil rights movement. Back then I knew very few blacks. They were credits to their race. I thought that when blacks were given equal rights they would perform and behave as well as whites.

I was surprised by the black ghetto riot in Harlem in 1964. Back then I thought a race riot by definition was a mob of whites killing blacks. Even as the black ghetto riots got worse every summer I remained woke. I did not really sympathize with the rioters. Nevertheless, I understood them to the point of forgiveness. Of course, I had nothing to forgive. I was not harmed by any of the riots. It was not my family's store that they looted and burned down.

Even now, Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech brings tears to my eyes. I want to cry because things did not work out as he said they would. I think of what a wonderful country the United States would be if the Great Society had worked. It would be a different country than it is, that is for sure.
