Mainstream Dems push to move past Biden allegation in wake of denial, as DNC responds to NYT call for probe

Mainstream Democrats, former Obama officials and allies in the women’s rights community are making a clear push to move past the controversy over the sexual-assault allegation dogging presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden after he denied former Senate staffer Tara Reade's claims for the first time on the record.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) also responded Saturday to a New York Times call for a probe into the allegation, telling Fox News it was an "absurd suggestion on its face."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had this week sent a clear signal that she was “satisfied” with Biden's response on the matter. Biden had not publicly addressed the claims -- although his campaign had denied them -- until Friday morning. After he denied the claims in a statement and in an MSNBC interview, Pelosi repeated her stance.

“I have said… I am proud to have endorsed Vice President Biden,” she said on a press call Friday. “I thought that he dealt with it, a complete denial, support for women."

Biden’s response came in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and in a written statement Friday morning.

“No, it is not true,” Biden said of the allegation made by Reade of an incident she said took place in 1993. “I’m saying unequivocally it never, never happened and it didn’t. It never happened.”

He also authorized a request for any relevant records in the National Archives while declining to OK a search for records at the University of Delaware, saying that those files would not pertain to personnel issues.

Reade initially came forward in 2019 accusing Biden of inappropriate touching, as did a number of other women at the time. But she then told a far more graphic version of her story to The Intercept and podcast host Katie Halper in late March, which raised the level of her accusation to sexual assault.

Reade, who was a supporter for Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primary campaign, has had a handful of associates come forward to back her story, saying that Reade had previously mentioned the alleged assault to them. But other former Senate aides have pushed back against or outright denied Reade's account.

“I don’t know why she’s saying this, I don’t know why after 27 years, all of a sudden this gets raised, but I’m not going to question her motives, I’m not going to attack her,” Biden said of Reade's claims. “She has a right to say whatever she wants to say, but I’m going to say look at the facts."

After the interview, several top women's groups telegraphed their satisfaction with his response.

“We have reached a pivotal moment in our nation when candidates for president are accused of sexual assault,” Tina Tchen, president and CEO of TIME’S UP Now and an ex-aide to former President Barack Obama, said in a statement. “Today, Vice President Joe Biden sat down and directly addressed the allegation against him with the seriousness it deserves, something that the current president has never done.”

Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a statement Friday that the group is "glad to see Vice President Biden take a needed first step in addressing this issue head-on. We now look to Biden to continue to push this conversation, and our country, forward."

As Republicans highlighted what they saw as double standards between how Democrats treated these accusations and how they treated allegations against then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, former Obama White House Communications Director Jen Psaki pushed back.

“top just stop anyone who is buying into GOP point that there is a double standard with Dr. Ford. Kavanaugh hid behind GOP trying to silence her, @joebiden just did an interview and has ordered all records released,” she tweeted Friday.

Meanwhile, former Obama adviser David Axelrod wrote for CNN, arguing that the team that vetted Biden to be Obama’s running mate in 2008 turned up no sign of Reade’s allegation.

“Reade did not surface her allegations of a criminal sexual assault when Biden was a candidate for president in 2008, nor did she offer them confidentially to the Obama vetting team when Biden emerged as a principal contender for vice president later that year,” he wrote.

“Had any credible issue been raised, you can be sure Biden would not have been the nominee,” he continued.

“Women who come forward deserve to be taken seriously and treated with respect, and Tara Reade's story should be heard and thoroughly investigated,” he went on to say. “But it is striking that when an experienced vetting team put Biden under a microscope before he was chosen to be second-in-line for the presidency, neither her allegations, nor anything resembling them in Biden's history, showed up.”

Not all of those traditionally sympathetic to Democrats were sold on Biden’s explanation, however. The New York Times demanded the Democratic National Committee do its own investigation into the claims made by Reade.

That brought a response by the DNC that defended Biden, saying he had been “clear” in his response to the accusations against him.

"This is an absurd suggestion on its face. Regardless of whether it’s the job of DNC to do this kind of thing, it’s already been done,” DNC Communications Director Xochitl Hinojosa told Fox News on Saturday.

"Joe Biden has been clear in responding to this allegation, he went through a thorough vetting process to be Obama’s Vice President in 2008 (which is a vetting process like no other) and lawyers and the press found nothing, and he has asked for transparency by requesting that all relevant documents be released if they exist."

Former Attorney General Eric Holder similarly backed the former VP in the wake of his statement.

"What has been described is inconsistent with the person who I've come to know and I've worked with," Holder told "Real Time with Bill Maher."

"I think the media is doing a correct job looking into the allegations, finding out a variety of things. The vice president has denied that it actually did occur. And as I said, his denial is consistent with the Joe Biden that I know.”

He also tried to turn the scrutiny back to President Trump.

"It's interesting that the people who are trying to fan this thing are the very people who support Donald Trump and, of course, who say nothing about the allegations that have been raised, I think very credibly, against Trump from a number of women -- you know, rape -- from a long period of time," Holder told Maher.

AP report: Two more sources corroborate Tara Reade's allegations

Joe Biden defends himself for the first time on TV after releasing a statement denying the Tara Reade sexual assault allegation; Geraldo Rivera reacts.

At least two additional sources have claimed that former Senate staffer Tara Reade told them about aspects of her sexual harassment and assault claims against former Vice President Joe Biden, according to a new report.

The Associated Press revealed Saturday that its reporting uncovered two sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity and who added to the already-mixed bag of individuals either corroborating or casting doubt on Reade's claims.

One friend, who said they knew Reade in 1993, said she told them about the alleged assault when it happened, according to The AP. The second friend met Reade more than a decade after the alleged incident and confirmed that Reade had a conversation with them in 2007 or 2008 about allegedly experiencing sexual harassment from Biden while working in his Senate office.

Reade claimed she told three of Biden's other staff members about harassment, although none of them reportedly said they remembered hearing those allegations from her. However, two other individuals, including a former neighbor of Reade's, corroborated her sexual-assault allegation in a report released earlier this week.

In addition to the two sources reported Saturday by The Associated Press, that makes at least four people who have corroborated Reade's allegations of either sexual assault or harassment against Biden.

Lynda LaCasse, one of Reade's former neighbors, reportedly claimed that Reade shared details about the alleged assault in the mid-1990s. One of Reade's former colleagues, Lorraine Sanchez, also told Business Insider that she remembered Reade complaining that her former boss assaulted her.

Reade was one of eight women who came forward last year with allegations that Biden made them feel uncomfortable with inappropriate displays of affection. Biden acknowledged the complaints at the time and promised to be “more mindful about respecting personal space in the future.”

After reviewing interviews with Reade from 2019, The AP interviewed her again on Friday. The outlet claims that Reade says she filed a limited report with a congressional personnel office at the time that did not explicitly accuse Biden of sexual assault or harassment.

“I remember talking about him wanting me to serve drinks because he liked my legs and thought I was pretty and it made me uncomfortable,” Reade reportedly said. “I know that I was too scared to write about the sexual assault.”

Reade said she described her issues with Biden but “the main word I used -- and I know I didn’t use sexual harassment -- I used ‘uncomfortable.’ And I remember ‘retaliation.’”

Reade has denied this report, however, tweeting after the article's publication that The AP's report was "false." Fox News has reached out to Reade for additional comment.

The existence of the Senate report has become a key element of the accusations against Biden, which he has flatly denied. Reade says she doesn’t have a copy of the report, and Biden said Friday that he is not aware that any complaint against him exists. He asked the Senate and the National Archives to search their records to try to locate a complaint from Reade.

    ! Ruin careers?
    Lets see.
Didn't ruin Clintons career, his lying kinda screwed him up, but interns, not so much.

Trump? Nope. Not even vagina grabbing.

Biden? Naw. But as they say, the coverup often is what becomes the problem.

Joltin' Joe should should go on MSNBC again, denounce these despicable tactics and call for a fair impartial investigation!

The harassment of women by their abusers must stop!

Tara Reade says 'creepy' voice messages, online harassment targeting her, family

EXCLUSIVE: Tara Reade says she is facing an onslaught of online harassment and is concerned about the safety of her family after becoming the center of a political firestorm over her sexual-assault allegation against her former boss Joe Biden.

"I find it astounding -- the hypocrisy that Democrats are talking about women being able to tell their story safely," Reade told Fox News on Saturday. "I'm a Democrat, a lifelong Democrat, but yet here I am trying to talk about my history with Joe Biden and I'm just the target of online harassment."

Reade said fake social media accounts have been created to impersonate her, pointing to one Facebook account with uploaded personal pictures of her and her family, and posts not authored by her.

A screenshot of one post was shared on Twitter by an apparent Biden supporter named Naomi Block, falsely accusing Reade of "deliberately tossing [Christine Blasey Ford] under the dang bus," referring to a fake quote from the account.

The Facebook page, which was using the handle "@TaraReada," also listed a fake website that used Reade's full name.

Facebook did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment regarding if that page violates the platform's policies.

Reade told Fox News that the home address of a family member was plastered online and that person received four "creepy" calls on Friday night, all within 30 minutes, from an unknown number.

In two voice messages obtained by Fox News, a caller appeared to have posed as a journalist seeking to speak with Reade.

"Hi Ms. Reade, this is Dave Johnson from the Observer, a small New York newspaper," the voice says before laughing uncontrollably, later saying "Jeffrey Epstein didn't kill himself" and "Trump 2020."

In the second voice message, which was the third attempt at calling Reade's family member, the caller says: "Hey Tara, this is Dave Johnson with the Observer and I would really love, I'd really appreciate a call back so we can discuss your new powerful allegation against Vice President Biden. I think you're setting a tone and underscoring a double standard put forth by the Me Too movement, so I'd really appreciate it if you could just call me back, give me a couple of quick questions."

Reade has also received numerous threatening messages, she said. In one email obtained by Fox News, someone named "Linda Dubois" called Reade a "f---ing whore" and a "disgrace to womanhood" for coming forward with her claims against Biden.
"You are a rip-roaring b---h and the great majority of Americans don’t believe you anyhow... I hope you drop dead," the person wrote.

One prominent Biden ally was also apparently aiming for Reade. Jon Cooper, a former chair of the Democratic Coalition, questioned if Reade was "unbalanced" or "was driven by malicious motives."

"This is an example [of] what I am dealing with in addition to the threats and harassment online," Reade tweeted about Cooper.

"This is something that really has to stop and I'm just wondering where this is coming from," Reade told Fox News. "Are these just fanatic supporters? And if so, what does that say about our Democratic voters? Why are they targeting me when the party line is supposed to be allowing people to be safe? Why are they targeting my family and myself and making my family frightened?"

She added: "It creates barriers for survivors to want to come forward and talk about difficult things that have happened. And in my case, talking about how Joe Biden sexually harassed and sexually assaulted me is very excruciating and enough by itself, but then to be targeted and harassed and have my whole family targeted and harassed online by people that call themselves his supporters is not only just upsetting, it's frightening."

On Friday, Biden finally broke his silence about the 1993 allegations made by Reade, telling MSNBC that the sexual harassment and assault she claims "never happened."

Democrats have a long history of intimidating females into remaining quiet about "democrat"assault claims
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Biden accuser Tara Reade says Anita Hill saga influenced her to stay silent in 1990s

Tara Reade revealed during a recent interview with Fox News that the treatment of Anita Hill during the 1991 confirmation of Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas influenced her to stay silent about her own sexual assault allegation against her former boss, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Two years before Reade said the then-Democratic senator from Delaware assaulted her, Hill came forward accusing Thomas, her former supervisor, of sexual harassment during her time working at the U.S. Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission amid his Senate confirmation, which was led by then-Senate Judiciary Chairman Biden.

"I really believed Anita Hill and I thought she was treated badly," Reade told Fox News. "I think a lot of women felt the same way. They were watching that -- that were professionals, you know, I was a young professional at the time."

"And I didn’t like the way Joe Biden dealt with her, but I also didn’t like how she was dealt with in general, right? And what it did was that it made us more silent. What it did was show us was, ‘Okay when you try to go up against this, this is basically what you’re gonna face. So it was an example of... a deterrent."

Reade recalled arguing with her mother, who urged her to file a police report at the time of the alleged 1993 assault, telling her, "Mom, you don’t understand. This is Capitol Hill" and how lawmakers at the time were "immune from a lot of crime," later adding that even raising the issue of sexual harassment "would have been a tough one to bring up against any of them in any kind of substantive way."

"There was a silencing," Reade took away from Hill's testimony. "There was like a ‘let’s go back to square one’ in how we’re going to deal with this and the whole thing about what’s considered vulgar, what’s considered sexual harassment. All of the definitions were still fluid and they were still deciding. And even now, here we are in 2020, you have major reporters that consider themselves liberal feminists, they’re neo-liberal feminists and they’re saying that the hugging, touching, massaging, kissing, unwanted is that… It’s not sexual harassment. It is sexual harassment. If you look up the definition, that’s the very definition of sexual harassment. So it’s just interesting how, like, even the definitions are being massaged to suit the perpetrator. That’s how I view it."

Anita Hill, now a law professor at Brandeis University, weighed in on Reade's claims, calling for investigations into Biden as well as President Trump, who has also been accused of sexual misconduct by several women, which he denies.

"Joe Biden has denied Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegations, but that should not be the end of the inquiry,” Hill told The New York Times on Friday. "Without these essential elements, uncertainty about who to believe and whether it matters will continue."

"How we proceed comes down to whether we take allegations of sexual violations seriously enough to insist that public institutions have fair procedures in place that protect individuals’ rights to come forward, and the rights of those who are accused to defend themselves," Hill elaborated.

Last year, shortly before he launched his presidential bid, Biden was criticized for what was described as a "non-apology" to Anita Hill in an effort to make peace with her, which was an outreach attempt she said didn't leave her "satisfied."

Following his entry into the 2020 race, Biden asked about his treatment of Hill, which he initially defended.

"I’m sorry she was treated the way she was treated. I wish we could have figured out a better way to get this thing done," Biden said on "The View." "I did everything in my power to do what I thought was within the rules to be able to stop things."

But when pressed by co-host Joy Behar to apologize to Hill, the former vice president refused.

"If you go back and look at what I said and I didn’t say, I don’t think I treated her badly. I took on her opposition," Biden told Behar.

A few days later, he told ABC News he took responsibility for how the Thomas accuser was treated.

"I believed her from the very beginning, but I was chairman. She did not get a fair hearing. She did not get treated well. That’s my responsibility," Biden said at the time. "As the committee chairman, I take responsibility that she did not get treated well. I take responsibility for that."

On Friday, Biden finally broke his silence about the 1993 allegations made by Reade, telling MSNBC that the sexual harassment and assault she claims "never happened."

    Jesus.

Next up, Michael Cohen introduces the 15 year old girl he says was raped by Biden at the 2008 DNC convention. Claims to have surveillance camera evidence to prove allegations!! Claims his allegiance to Trump has always been total, that the whole tell all book, prosecution, etc. was just a sham to suck in deep state actors!

Trump awards Cohen medal of freedom during Covid 19 press briefing.

Accuses Rachel Maddow of being "patient 0" and bringing Covid-19 into the states to harm his administration.

Nancy Antoinette suffers sugar coma on floor of the house, rushed to Walter Reed, where doctors say unless Trump releases chocolate Ice Cream stocks, she will die. Trump refuses citing national security. Schumer promises investigation, issues subpoena to Barron Trump. Trump says Barron won't be testifying, citing national security. Schumer promises investigation.

    Innocent until proven guilty. Remember?

Isn't it quite ironic that you dislike Clinton because he lied about a private matter, but you ignore every word coming from Trump's lips, shouting "Get Trump, no matter what!"

What you're tacitly saying is "I'll defend Trump no matter what!"

Now if only they both were punished equally.

Also, Clinton is the reason why republicans refuse to testify under oath. No significant Republican has submitted to any questions under oath for any reason. The Bush administration only gave testimony under the condition that it was not under oath. Trump, as you know, just refuses to cooperate with anything.
