  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

The graphics for recoveries basically mirrors that for cases ,
    unsurprisingly.
    It's just a couple/few of weeks behind ,
much the same as deaths ,
although they do spread out a bit longer.

But being relatively a small percentage , deaths don't noticeably effect the graphics.
(in fact if you observe the line graph for deaths , it also mirrors almost exactly that
    of the cases)

It dose vary from country to country of course , as you can see in the figures. (converter to a fraction here)

    For the US
    347 recovered
    1,532 cases

    For the world
    1936 cases
    4,947,841 cases

    For NZ , 96 % recovered now

    1503

oops run outa time to fix fuckups
      :)
green is the recovery figure ,
      over the cases in black.

      For NZ it is
      1442
      1503
      so , 14/15s , and for the US , 3/15s

      World 2/5s or (10/15s)

GOP senator compares COVID-19 to car crashes in leaked recording — but coronavirus has killed far more Americans

Yep , clearly Americans don't think it kills enough to worry about.

      But hey ,
      that's fine ,
we'll leave them in their own lil no travel bubble ,
and carry on without them ,
as is becoming the norm this century.

We'll be fine , we're quite used to it now .

It's been the new norm for a while.

It used to be , "will America own us" in a few years.
It's already been , "will Asia own us "
      for a few years.
      :)

Prior to all of that , it used to be
      "dose England own us".

Everything changes , Nothing stays the same.

      is as true as

      Every dog has its day

We don't have to worry about it
We're just a lil flea on the planet.
Occasionally we bite enough to cause a bit of scratching , and occasionally we jump hosts and hitch a new ride.
      we don't bother some ,
and anoy the shit outa uvas :finger:

I have seen a lot of idiot politicians making such comparisons and some of the halfwits inhabiting this place but the thing about car crashes, cancer or heart desease is they do not have an R0 of between 4 and 5!

I’m sure that the loved ones of those who have died in car crashes (516,000 so far this year) or of cancer (more than 3 million this year) are not going to the funeral homes and delivering eulogies about the comfort they take concerning R0 in the deaths of their friends and family members. Dead is dead.

We’ve already been through the failures of R0, especially in this case where far too many assumptions are plugged into it. I don’t know where you get this 4 or 5 R0 number anyway. I’ve never seen it set that high. If you’re so concerned about R0 then worry about measles with a R0 between 12 and 18 but I guess that distracts from the laser focus on c-19.

Let me throw this out for purposes of scientific comparison. The Drake equation is extremely accurate, in it’s case predicting extraterrestrial life. All the factors are perfectly reasonable and in good order. The problem there too is that to use it one has also to make too many assumptions. But if you had all the correct data it would work fine.

And again why the personal attacks? Halfwit, twat, cretin just to name a few. The ad hominems make you look defensive and immature.

If you are so certain of the correctness of your positions then why bother with the personal attacks? Shouldn’t your warrants suffice?

The Florida official in charge of designing and managing the state’s online dashboard of COVID-19 data says she was fired after refusing to censor and “manually change data” in order to present a picture justifying the state’s process of reopening and loosening COVID-19 restrictions.

Rebekah Jones, who led a group of data scientists and public health experts at Florida’s Department of Health, announced her departure in an email to colleagues late Friday, according to Florida Today.

On Monday, Jones told Florida's CBS 12 that her departure, effective May 5, was “not voluntary,” saying she was dismissed after refusing to “manually change data to drum up support for the plan to reopen.”

Representatives for the state’s Department of Health did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

In a statement to the Miami herald a spokesperson for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis confirmed Jones’ departure.

“The Florida COVID-19 Dashboard was created by the Geographic Information System (GIS) team in the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection at the Florida Department of Health,” she said. “Although Rebekah Jones is no longer involved, the GIS team continues to manage and update the Dashboard providing accurate and important information that is publicly accessible.”

All you do is quote death rates for other ailments and accidents and use them to as justification for letting people die of covid-19!

I think we can improve upon letting people die!

Yes but if we are truly concerned about death it seems logical to prioritize the resources to tackle the things that most people die from.

Can you imagine how much better use could be made of all the governments’ stimuli if it were used to feed the millions of people who have already starved this year or tackle the problems of non covid communicable diseases?

I had a fascinating conversation with a man from Ghana who asked me how come so much money is being spent on this virus that kills so few and so little money is spent on TB and malaria and the other things that kill so many more in his country regularly. I think he views this as a form of racism.

I don’t know about that but it is a form of western narcissism.

We can certainly always reduce death.
Lowered speed limits, more and better airbags and seatbelts save lives.

The question is, at what cost, and in our arrogant cheating of death do we understand the consequences?

Shooter learned today that child abuse (not neglect, afuckingbuse!) Cases are skyrocketing and its being attributed to the economic shutdown.

Are we trading the lives of our youth hoping to save the lives of seniors?

This is such a powerful quotation that it deserves reposting especially for the ones who have not read it before. It’s rich and requires some time to reflect upon and fits the tone of this debate perfectly.

“If a man is alive, there is always danger that he may die, though the danger must be allowed to be less in proportion as he is dead-and-alive to begin with. A man sits as many risks as he runs.”

There is as much risk in going out of your way to avoid risk than living your life and accepting the risks. In trying to avoid risk, you are avoiding life itself.

Thoreau lived in the age of small pox with a 30 percent mortality rate and higher among babies. He saw active human suffering all around him.

Here is the lastest summary courtesy of the Guardian five hours ago! Basically the US, Russia, UK and Brazil are still in the exponential growth of cases, ICU hopitalizations and deaths..........also Sweden for those still following that experiment!

    Summary
Here are the most important developments from the last few hours:

    • Global confirmed cases near 4.9 million. According to researchers at Johns Hopkins University, at least 323,286 people are known to have died from Covid-19 while at least 4,897,567 are confirmed as having been infected since the outbreak began. The figures, which are based on official and media reports, are likely to significantly underestimate the scale of the pandemic due to differing testing and statistical recording regimes, as well as suspected undercounting.
    • Trump says the US having the highest cases worldwide is a ‘badge of honour’. The US president told reporters at a cabinet meeting that the high number of cases in the US – far higher than any other country – is a “badge of honour”, because it means the US is testing the most. Trump told reporters: “You know when you say that we lead in cases, that’s because we have more testing than anybody else.” He said he looks at the number “in a certain respect, as being a good thing because it means our testing is much better.”
    • Singapore sentences man to death via Zoom call. A man has been sentenced to death in Singapore via a Zoom video-call for his role in a drug deal, the city-state’s first case where capital punishment has been delivered remotely.Punithan Genasan, a 37-year-old Malaysian, received the sentence for his role in a 2011 heroin transaction on Friday, court documents showed, with the country under lockdown to try to curb one of the highest coronavirus rates in Asia.
    • UN chief praises Africa’s efforts to stem virus. UN secretary general António Guterres said on Wednesday that the developed world could learn lessons from the preventative measures taken by many African countries to stem the spread of the coronavirus. There have been fewer than 3,000 Covid-19 deaths from 88,000 cases of the disease registered throughout the African continent, relatively low numbers compared with over 320,000 deaths worldwide.
    • Brazil confirms record daily rise in deaths and cases. Brazil has confirmed a record 17,408 cases in the last 24 hours and a record 1,179 deaths. The country has 271,628 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 17,971 people have died. Hospital officials say more than 85% of intensive care beds in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo are full.
    • Covid-19 crisis will push 60m into poverty says World Bank chief. Coronavirus shutdowns around the world could undo three years of gains in alleviating poverty, the president of the World Bank has said. David Malpass said that up to 60 million people could be pushed below the poverty line, according to World Bank estimates, as the global economy shrinks by around 5%.
    • US president claims hydroxychloroquine study is ‘Trump enemy statement’. Trump claimed a recent US study indicating hydroxychloroquine was not an effective coronavirus treatment was a “Trump enemy statement”. “If you look at the one survey, the only bad survey, they were giving it to people that were in very bad shape,” Trump said. “They were very old. Almost dead. It was a Trump enemy statement.” There have only been limited studies on the drug in relation to Covid-19 so far.
    • New Zealand PM flags four-day working week. New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern has suggested employers to consider a four-day working week and other flexible working options as a way to boost tourism and help employees address persistent work/life balance issues.
    • High schools open in South Korea. South Korean high schools opened on Wednesday for the first time since the pandemic began, with mask-wearing seniors returning to class in the vanguard of a phased plan to reopen all schools under strict protocols to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
    • China gears up for annual congress. China’s biggest political event of the year opens Friday after months of delay over coronavirus fears, with President Xi Jinping determined to project strength and control over the outbreak despite international criticism and a wounded economy.
    • WHO assembly passes a resolution to investigate global pandemic response. Member states have backed a resolution strongly supportive of the World Health Organization, after Donald Trump issued a fresh broadside against the UN body, giving it 30 days to make unspecified reforms or lose out on US funding. None of the WHO’s 194 member states raised objections to the resolution brought by the EU on behalf of more than 100 countries. The resolution backs the WHO’s leadership and said there needed to be an investigation into the global response to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Un'be'elievable
the fool opens his mouth and excrement just flows out

With 1/23 , one twentythird of the world's population ,
he has overseen 1/4 , one quarter of the world's infections and deaths.

Only a fool could spew up an excuse to boast about that.

By contrast , India would have to have
    6 million cases
to reach the same level of infections
    (China similar obviously)

Meanwhile we've had another day of no new cases , and most are back at work to at least some degree.
Some are looking for alternative and or innovative ways to get there , and unfortunately some may not for quite a long time.

Interestingly , most are reasonably optimist , or looking at things in a positively hopeful
way , even some in the likely worst hit sectors of foreign tourism and airlines.
There will be some quite terrible job losses in those areas ,
but those that take a positive outlook on finding alternative stand a good chance within not to long a time.

If Aussie can keep on its track to control ,
and we can join forces to recover together , along with any PI who want to join ,
then that will put a whole new light on the next year or two.

(obviously all that depends very much on how we behave ,
and not having a serious relapse)

Good to see a number of others doing well to.
19 countries or entities have All cases Recovered.

another 4 have all cases resolved And
    No Active cases.

    Then there's 27 with less than 100 cases ,
    and No New cases,
    and
most of them only have a few deaths also.

(that's a quarter of the countries have bugger all of the world's totals ,
while the top fifty have have by far most of them)

There is no doubt after the way it spread here while the government sat on its hands keeping them warm ,
that had we not gone hard as soon as it was obvious things were rapidly going pear shaped ,
We would have (relatively) huge and devastating numbers to ,
and we'd certainly be much worse off financially .

As funny as Ttumps explanation was, he is correct.

Until people are tested, there are very few if any covid cases.

So. Lots of testing reveals more cases.

Why is this so difficult to understand??

    Oh, wait. Cause ..... trump

The thing is that unless everyone is tested by tests that show both current and prior exposure and then have the results plotted against the severity of symptoms or no symptoms then we can never know the true picture. But I deeply suspect that many people were exposed and didn’t even know it.

Hell, stop testing for cancer then; you’ll have eradicated it entirely in the whole country.
