Does abortion figure into who you will vote for ?

If you would have asked this a year ago, I would have said yes.

 

Yea, just like same-sex marraige. But then once the person who i voted for gets into office, he'll forget about those issues and i will as well.

At least thats how i imagine the general public views things like abortion, marriage, and all those stupid issues that only come up during elections.

This is one of the quite, sensitive, but very important question of this Presidential Election. The US Supreme Court now has a decidedly conservative slant but in most cases involving abortion have been one vote short of overturning Roe v Wade. The next president will in all likely hood be able to appoint one or more Supreme Court Justices. If the next president is Republican in all likely hood abortion will become illegal for all or most women in the US. Several states have already prepared legislation outlawing abortion in anticipation of Roe v. Wade being overturned.

 

well if it becomes illegal, then there will be more born into poverty, that will in turn bring more crime , violence, and more acts towards other nations

I agree with RP, one issue is not enough to decide on who the vote for in an election. I look at how the canidates have acted and any voting records they have on several subjects.
Now on the issue of abortion itself, I am in favor of a woman's right to choose. By having it legalized, it does prevent unwanted pregnacies and also prevents the very real public health issues that were happening prior to Roe V. Wade because of back alley abortions. Many of those were preformed by people who had little knowledge of medical and often in less than safe enviroments. By making abortion illegal again, you will just see the return of these places and the many health issues that are associated with it.

For me the abortion issue is just one of several issues to be concerned with in the upcoming presidential election. I generally concern myself more with local politics over federal politics but the Roe V Wade ruling can only be overruled at the national level.

Definitely. I would not vote for someone who would deny women the freedom to choose to have an abortion.

It's certainly not the ONLY factor I would consider, but fortunately, I don't have to make that tradeoff.

 

Let me pose a question, then, as long as we're on the subject. Mitt Romney was pro-choice when he was Governor of Massachusettes. Now he says he changed his mind and is pro-life. How convenient. Rudy Giuliani says he's pro-choice, but would appoint "strict-constructionist judges", which is code for pro-life judges. How convenient again.

Nope, Romney simply claimed to be " pro-choice" to get elected governor of an historically liberal state and Giuliani is... well.... just Rudy.

 

It doesnt figure into who I vote for, however since we are on the subject. How can we call it an unplanned pregnancy? What happens when we have sex? We get pregnant. Thats like saying I turned the doorknob, but I didnt expect the door to open.
