And that would be fine for you to think that way, but I don't think it gives you the right to tell all other woman what it is in their belly and that they should have to carry it full term no mater what their circumstances are or how the baby was created or what it might do to their health or lives. That's where the idea of choice comes in.

And you're right it was sort of a victory for the pro life movement when there was a change in the law that counted two lives in the case of pregnancy. Strange though that was not the law when abortion was illegal. If you killed a pregnant woman then it was only one life and if you just killed the baby inside her it was assault and battery.

My point is the same one made by another poster on this thread its a very miserable thing to be an unwanted child. Its a brutal thing to be born only to have your father throw you over a bridge or have a mother that stabs you and smothers your three sisters and then lives in the same house with the bodies for months. Its a terrible thing for a welfare system that can't keep track of kids and doesn't know for a year that they have been murdered, or be placed in foster care only to be raped and abused. Its as I have already said these issues are not as simple as you would like to pretend they are.

By the way I was wondering how do you feel about increasing our welfare system? Where do you stand on the death penalty do you oppose or support capital punishment?

The thing with abortion is the fact the genie is out of the bottle. You can't put it back in. Legal or not, people will still find a way to have them. By having them legal, it allows for trained medical professionals to preform them in a sterile enviroment and treat any issues which may arise from the procedure. If it were illegal, it would return to the days of the back alley abortions which were poorly done. Women who opted for an abortion if illegal would be less likely to seek medical attention for fear of it being discovered they recently had one if complications arised.

 

ANOTHER FUN FACT

 

I am and always have been anti-abortion. I had to start thinking with my brain instead of my heart to realize how much worse it would be if abortion was made illegal.

Rain this is an amazing statement to me. And what I mean by that is I have some idea of how strongly you feel about abortion and it seems to take such courage on your part for you to question yourself on the issue.

On the other hand I have had to also adjust my thinking. I don't want it to become illegal again, but I do want all of us to think of every other option first. At one point I considered it an acceptable form of birth control with out a second thought. But that no longer plays well in my heart.

 

We'd be a lot better off if people looked at issues like this and said "this isn't right for me" and left other people to make decisions about their life on their own. Too many folks runnin' around up in other people's business.

Stumbler had it right...the issue here is the government getting in between a decision that is between a woman and her doctor. I thought conservatives were for limiting government intrusion in our lives, but that's probably another area where JoeDirty will tell me I don't understand conservative ideology.

 

They want government intrusion at a minimum except where God tells them to intrude. Fine print, and all.
