I've always wondered why anti-abortion zealots seem willing to have all those unused embryos that result from in vitro fertilization thrown in the trash. As opposed to using them for stem cell research.

 

Given the potential benefits of stem cell research this is one hypocritical stance that has actually angered me, and I hope who ever our next president is changes that as one of their first orders of business.

 

Whether or not that happens, it's a logical contradiction on the part of "pro-life" people. By their lights, the disposal of those embryos is murder.

That's not true. See, one of the nice things about coming at a problem from a position of logic and reason is that when we encounter something that counters older evidence, we are free to change our minds. For instance, if you were able to dig back in some other threads, you would see where I argued in favor of the death penalty. I was not passionate about it, I wasn't basing it on a moral judgement, to me it just seemed logical. You kill someone, you get killed, very simple. I've recently come in to evidence that caused me to reexamine that position and in the last several weeks I've changed my mind. I am now against it. Because I don't take an absolutist stance on much of anything, I'm free to change my mind as new things come to light.

So if you could offer sound and compelling arguments to support the things you say, you might just win some converts. Or at the very least an 'agree to disagree' type statement. Right now your style begs to be attacked because those of us that know better know that you are arguing from an incredibly weak and often unsupportable position. There's some very smart people on here and if they smell blood in the water, they're going to attack. In other words, you gotta bring your A game. The more firm your statement, the firmer your evidence should be should you be called on it.

This one thinks it would be a great thing, but I don't think it would stop many abortions. Even if women who were planning to abort were willing to do this instead, not many would know in time for it to be possible.

 

This is where the media and education could play a real positive role. A pregnancy test can be developed for this and sold along with the other ones.

The way I look at it...

Its not my body.... If I was the father, I think I should have a say.... Other wise, its none of my fucking business...

In the case of rape... I have no problem with it...

If you know the fetus is damaged severly... No problem... One of my Marines wives knew her daughter was going to be born with her brain outside of her skull... The Naval hospital refused to do a therapeutic abortion... Its policy... Tricare insurance wouldnt pay for it out int town, and since they had insurance, they couldnt get medicade to pay for it....(I dont think they do anyways).... The poor girl had to go four months carrying a fetus that was going to be all but still born... she was so fucked up she almost killed herself....Fucking sad....

Otherwise.... be more carefull.... That kid didnt ask to be concieved... Its not like pregnancy isnt preventable....Its your concience that has to deal with it...

I'm coming to the conclusion that it is you who don't know jack about liberals or conservatives. You only have rhetorical meaningless clinches.

As stated above with the reasons included this is not true and makes you appear rather ridiculous to maintain that it is.

It would be a lot easier to just admit that you are wrong on this point instead of continuing this transparent facade.

I agree on the principle and the problem, but I wonder what we could do if we really looked at options like this and put some time and resources into it instead of just arguing and letting Christian morals force policies in our government.

These are logical solutions and I for one believe that we can do things like this if we really want to. For instance if pro-life and pro-choice people both agreed and pressed for the education, research and development you speak of I'm willing to bet it could be done in very little time.
