Rep. McCarthy threatens to oust House Speaker Pelosi over impeachment threats

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has threatened to oust House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over her recent impeachment threats.

On Wednesday, the lawmaker warned he will put forward a motion to vacate the House speaker if she tries to impeach President Trump or Attorney General William Barr as a delay tactic to block the Senate from voting on the next Supreme Court justice.

According to McCarthy, Democrats are trying to get in the way of the Senate. He went on to say he has a constitutional right to take action.

“If she tries to move for an impeachment based upon the President following the Constitution, I think there will be a move on the floor to have her no longer, or the question of her being speaker,” he stated. “She may think she has a quiver, we do too.”

This procedural move would require Republicans to get a majority of House members to remove her.

Pelosi: There has to be a price to pay for Republicans

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been pushing for early voting in an effort to undermine Republicans’ efforts to appoint a new Supreme Court justice. On Friday, she urged Americans to undermine the GOP’s obligations by participating in early voting systems in their states.

Republicans have said they are simply trying to fulfill their obligation to the people of the United States. However, the speaker threatened the GOP by saying their decisions must have a consequence, which will come after the election.

“We have to make sure people know they must vote and must vote early,” stated Pelosi. “If the Republicans insist on going forward, then there has to be a price to pay.”

This came after Pelosi and other Democrats urged the Senate to vote on Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nomination ahead of the 2016 elections. Despite this, she has claimed Democrats will use “every arrow in their quiver” to stop Congress from voting on the Supreme Court nomination.

Nancy Pelosi Questions Debt in Trump’s Tax Records: ‘This Is a National Security Question’

Speaker Nancy Pelosi reacted to the bombshell report on President Donald Trump’s tax records with questions about exactly who he’s in debt to.

Andrea Mitchell asked Pelosi if anyone should expect political ramifications from these revelations, given how lots of reporting has come out about the president and his finances but “nothing seems to stick.”

Pelosi brushed aside the politics to bring up what she said was a serious national security question:

“I’m an intelligence person, as you know, and I do know that if there is a review of somebody if they’re going to be federally appointed to a job or whatever, if they have outstanding debt, that is an important factor, because that means somebody else has leverage over them. This president appears to have over $400 million in debt, $420, whatever it is, million dollars in debt. To whom? Different countries? What is the leverage they have?

So for me, this is a national security question. And in addition to which, it’s so strange that in 2017 the president paid $750 in federal taxes, and paid over $300,000 in taxes to other countries that we know of, it may be more. So, again, let’s come back to, we take an oath to protect and defend. This president is the Commander-in-Chief. He has exposure to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, to whom? The public has a right to know.”

Pelosi brought up Russia in particular and said, “The question is what does Putin have on the president politically, personally, financially… He likes Putin, Putin likes him. Well, what’s the connection?”

Nancy antoinette raising a question about the president's debt load based on unfounded and unsupported tax information!

You see, Pelosi knows as well as anyone that because President Trump was elected, the question of security clearance is moot.
Risk or not, the President gets clearance.
Like Clinton had clearance even though an intern had powerful blackmail leverage on him.
Like Kennedy kept his clearance even though a B class star had leverage on him.

No, the issue isn't the presidents security. Its his tax returns that the despicables will have in public before the election come hell or high water.
Cause all they have without them is Biden.

The thing is, as third in line, Pelosi's security clearance is critical, but she wasn't elected by the populace to that place in succession and theoretically could be forced from the role of speaker of the house if her security clearance was at risk.

But we don't know her debt load, or who she owes money to, or who she and hubbys business, or hubby's business, does business with.

Cause, you see, Nancy Antoinette refuses to release her tax returns.

Pelosi: Trump's remarks at debate 'what keeps me up at night'

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that President Trump's behavior during the presidential debate this week is representative of "what keeps me up at night."

"As Speaker, over time, people have said to me, ‘What keeps you up at night?’ The night of the debate you saw what keeps me up at night," Pelosi said as she opened a news conference in the Capitol.

"To see a president of the United States, in a debate with a potential president of the United States, refuse to condemn white supremacists, refuse to commit to a peaceful transfer of government. To ignore the climate crisis as our country is burning and our coasts are hit by fierce storms. To be there to crush the Affordable Care Act instead of crushing the virus," Pelosi said.

Trump drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for refusing to directly condemn white supremacists during Tuesday night's debate and for again refusing to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses to Biden.

The Commission on Presidential Debates, which sponsors the televised debates, announced on Wednesday that it would implement changes to the remaining two debates to make them less chaotic after Trump continuously interrupted both Biden and the moderator, Chris Wallace of Fox News.

"What keeps me at night is what we saw that night was authenticity on both sides of the stage. The president authentically a bully. Joe Biden authentically a decent person who cares about America's working families," Pelosi said.

"[This] isn't just like a Democratic or Republican debate. That's the exchange of ideas. That's what we came here to do. This is something quite different, undermining our institutions, undermining our democracy. The president of the United States with no respect for the office that he holds," Pelosi said.

Pelosi originally said in August that she didn't think Biden should debate Trump and "legitimize a conversation with him nor a debate in terms of the presidency of the United States."

“I don’t think that there should be any debates,” Pelosi said at the time. “I do not think that the president of the United States has comported himself in a way that anybody has any association with truth, evidence, data and facts.”

The Biden campaign said Wednesday that the former vice president will continue to debate Trump. The remaining two presidential debates are scheduled for Oct. 15 and Oct. 22.

Faced with pressure to more clearly condemn the right-wing group The Proud Boys — whom he had told to "stand back and stand by" during the debate — Trump denied Wednesday that he knew of the group.

"Whoever they are, they have to stand down, let law enforcement do their work," Trump said.

Pelosi later added in an interview on Bloomberg TV that she hadn't "really slept five hours combined both nights" since Tuesday's debate.

She also reiterated that she doesn't think Biden should participate in additional debates with Trump.

House approves $2.2T COVID-19 relief bill as White House talks stall

House Democrats on Thursday approved a massive, $2.2 trillion package of coronavirus relief, lending political cover to party centrists in tough races while putting fresh pressure on Senate Republicans to move another round of emergency aid before the coming elections.

The vote arrived only after last-ditch negotiations between Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday failed to yield a bipartisan agreement — and it sent a signal that the prospects for such a deal before Nov. 3 have dimmed considerably.

The bill was approved by a tally of 214 to 207, but to secure passage, Pelosi and her leadership team had to stave off a late revolt from a surprisingly large number of centrists who were furious that Pelosi had staged a vote on a bill with no chance of becoming law.

As the vote clock ticked down, Pelosi was seen on the chamber floor huddled in a long and animated conversation with three of those moderates: Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) and Jason Crow (D-Colo.). Watching closely were Reps. James Clyburn (S.C.), the Democratic whip, and Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), the House majority leader.

Afterwards, Gottheimer and Crow voted in favor of the measure, while Phillips voted against it, bringing the number of Democratic defections to 18. The vote was gaveled closed shortly afterwards.

"This move toward compromise has demonstrably renewed momentum for a deal, and we are closer than we have been in months, but the only thing that will deliver the help my constituents need is a bill that will actually become law," said Rep. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa), a first-term lawmaker who opposed the measure.

Every Republican voted no, saying the spending levels were too high and the funding targeted certain programs unrelated to the coronavirus crisis.

The legislation has no chance of becoming law for the time being.

Republicans in the Senate and White House both oppose the measure and are backing a proposal that is $600 billion less than the Democratic legislation.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is dedicating the entirety of next week — the Senate’s last in Washington before the elections — to seating federal judges as the upper chamber gears up for a battle over President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

“I’d like to see another rescue package. We’ve been trying for months to get there. I wish them well,” McConnell said of the Pelosi-Mnuchin talks.

Yet Democratic supporters cheered the bill’s passage, using it to argue that Democrats are focused on getting relief to people.

“My constituents and small business owners will be so relieved to know that help that they need is one step closer to being here,” freshman Rep. Kim Schrier (D-Wash.), a pediatrician who flipped a GOP-held seat in 2018, said on the floor before the vote.

The package features almost all of the initiatives included in the Democrats’ $3.4 trillion Heroes Act, which passed the House in May, but on shorter time-frames, which brought the overall cost down by more than a third.

It features almost $500 billion for state and local governments; a renewal of $600 weekly payments for unemployment benefits; another round of $1,200 checks for individuals; $75 billion for coronavirus testing; and billions of dollars more for schools, the Postal Service, food stamps, rental assistance and election security. It also contains emergency bailout funds for two industries hit hardest by the pandemic: airlines and restaurants.

"These are not radical ideas,” said Rep. David Cicilline (R.I.), head of the Democrats' messaging arm. “This is a basic responsibility to keep the American people healthy and safe."

Republicans have argued the measure is too costly, and panned it, in the words of Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), as a “$2.2 trillion socialist wish-list.”

“When it comes to spending taxpayer dollars — hard-earned money — the Democrats just can't seem to help themselves,” she said.

The breakdown in negotiations on a bipartisan deal came as United Airlines and American Airlines on Thursday began furloughing 32,000 workers, while Alaska Airlines said it would furlough 532 people. That followed an announcement by Disney that it would lay off 28,000 employees mostly from its two theme parks.

Insurance company Allstate said it would lay off about 3,800 people, while publisher Houghton Mifflin Harcourt said it was cutting 22 percent of its workforce or about 525 positions. Goldman Sachs said it was cutting 400 jobs.

On top of that, the film and movie theater industries sent a letter to lawmakers this week begging the two parties to come together to reach a deal.

The wave of new layoffs are part of what drove Pelosi and Mnuchin back to the negotiating table. After a weeks-long impasse, the pair met in the Speaker’s office for 90 minutes on Wednesday, giving lawmakers and market watchers a glimmer of hope that a deal could get done.

But a second in-person meeting never materialized Thursday; instead the negotiators spoke by phone at least twice, taking steps toward a deal but falling short of finalizing one. Pelosi said the sides exchanged proposals, but no deal would be sealed before Friday.

The main difference between the two sides is the size of the package. Pelosi said Mnuchin’s offer of $1.6 trillion was simply too little, particularly for state and local governments struggling to stretch budgets while tax revenues have sunk.

But Pelosi also emphasized that funding is not the only issue. Democrats want stronger assurances that any money that’s approved actually goes to the areas intended by Congress. She accused the Trump administration of misusing funds Congress had previously appropriated for coronavirus testing.

“It’s the language, it’s not just the money,” Pelosi told reporters before the vote. “We've been having testing [in] a number of bills but they've never really done it.”

Republicans pushed back against the criticisms, accusing Pelosi and Democrats of political gamesmanship by crafting a partisan bill that has no chance of becoming law.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) characterized the package as “the Pelosi pipedream 2.0.” And White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany said it was time for Pelosi and the Democrats to bring their number down after Republicans put real money on the table.

“Nancy Pelosi is not being serious. If she becomes serious then we can have a discussion here. We've raised our offer, but when you lower your offer [to] $2.2 trillion, and you ask for direct payments to illegal immigrants and you ask for certain deportation forgivenesses in your offer, it’s not a serious offer,” McEnany said at a press briefing.

"What we are talking about here is relief for the American people, for American citizens, not direct payments to illegal immigrants. We raised our offer to $1.6 trillion…. It is a good proposal but it’s one that she is not interested in."
