Mulvaney says people are leaving N.Y. because of taxes, crime, and COVID-19 handling

Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney recently blasted New York while defending the Trump administration’s reforms to federal tax law limiting state and local tax deductions.

In a media appearance Wednesday, Mulvaney said New York politicians want to blame others for the problems the state is having. However, he asserted it’s wrong to blame New York’s problems on the administrations move to cap state and local tax deductions at $10,000 .

The former White House official stressed people are leaving the state because of issues like high crime.

Mulvaney also said states like New York were taking advantage of previous deduction levels to raise taxes on their residents.

It turns out San Francisco has actually passed a "wealth tax" or, if you will, the “overpaid executive tax.”. The legislation calls for a levy of at least 0.1 percent on companies that pay their CEO more than 100 times the median pay of their workforce. That 0.1 percent tax can reach as high as 0.6 percent depending on how far above the company’s median pay the CEO’s total compensation is.

So, here's the thing; companies in San Francisco can reduce the CEOs pay, move out of the city, challenge this bit of socialist legislation in court, or pay the tax. Shooter bets they'll be moving out of the city. What with the trash, human waste, stupid law after stupid law, hostility towards companies and now this penalty imposed on companies, what company needs to stay and be pummeled like this?

Shooter does think two things will happen, no matter what companies decide; first the city isn't' getting a tax increase and second, those bottom wage earners aren't getting a wage increase.

N.Y. lawmakers considering higher taxes on wealthy to address pandemic budget deficit

New York State Democrat lawmakers said they’re looking at new and higher taxes to address a ‘massive’ budget deficit caused by the pandemic.

According to Thursday’s reports, lawmakers discussed approving tax hikes, cutting spending, or implementing both of these options in their meeting on Wednesday.

This also includes considering higher taxes on the state’s wealthy residents as well as the legalization of marijuana and mobile betting.

In a news briefing on Wednesday, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) said that the state will likely see tax increases regardless of what the government does in terms of aid.

“Unless the federal government is truly responsible and accountable, and really gives New York the funding it deserves, you’ll see tax increases,” Cuomo said. “You probably will see tax increases in any event, pardon my skepticism about Washington.”

This came amid reports of New York city’s chapter of the ‘Democrat Socialists of America,’ which called on voters to back a ‘Tax the Rich’ campaign to the tune of $50 billion in tax hikes.
