@thinskin Just an anecdote because its something you covered long ago but MSNBC's Rachel Maddow just did a report about you guys getting ahead of COVID by your scientists figuring out they could track it in sewer water. And I just remember you telling us about that a long time ago in the early days. But to hear Maddow tell it tonight its like you guys discovered the New World.

And it seems to be really increasing as a means of tracking COVID here.

Well, hell, Shooter was saying early on that the testing numbers and mortality numbers were not trustworthy and as he recalls, @thinskin diverted with arguments about sewer water.

    No matter.

There was a report about a Johns Hopkins professor who took a look at nation wide mortality numbers for several prior years, you know, before Covid, and compared them to mortality numbers since Covid. Her point was that overall mortality numbers have not increased much at all, certainly not by the 280,000 deaths claimed for Covid. Her published report was yanked by Johns Hopkins with no apology and no real explanation, but not before enough people got hold of it to keep the story alive.

Shooter has been looking for that story and/or the article since, but can't even find reliable nationwide mortality numbers for the US covering the 10 year period the Johns Hopkins professor used.

Briand’s video doesn’t consider that analysis or any other previous studies on the issue.

Instead, she looks at some public CDC data and, in part, homes in on a spike in deaths in spring 2020, observing that it does not correspond with an increase in all deaths — such as heart disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, influenza and pneumonia — as was the case during a spike in deaths in early January 2018.

“Our death number increased in 2020 and we have less heart attack than in 2018,” she said. “Where have all the heart attacks gone?”

But she’s misleadingly comparing different points in time for the two years.

Perhaps you meant to post on parler but posted here by mistake?

      Attaboy.
Some time back, Shooter posted about Colorado's sudden drop in cardiac deaths, corresponding to Covid.
As it turned out, with all elective surgeries canceled (cardiac surgery, incredibly, was listed as elective unless it was due to a heart attack) people were afraid to go to a hospital. People with chest pain who in other times would go to the hospital emergency were staying home and dying at home. You know, cause half of all first heart attacks are fatal.

So the body was then transported to a funeral home, rather than the hospital, and the usual medical examiner process was circumvented because no hospital, and the cause of death was any number of things, but also, notably, funeral homes were not obligated to report deaths to Colorado health officials and as a result, cardiac and stroke deaths were grossly underreported.

People were still dying, needlessly, from heart attacks and strokes, but they were underreported.

It is Friday shitter so I am not going to argue with you but I have spent three days this week at the cardiology department with the missus.........all ok so far.......but their take on your stats is people are taking more care!

Not attending stressful events like Trump rallies or BLM rallies and that has resulted in less emergencies.......and everyone got the flu jab.

Spin how you like but we can fight again tomorrow!

More Americans have now died from COVID-19 than the number of US soldiers killed in battle during World War II

The United States has now recorded more COVID-19 deaths than the total number of Americans killed in combat during World War II, the bloodiest war in human history.

According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the US saw 291,557 battle deaths during WWII. As of Thursday evening, there have been 291,754 COVID-19 deaths in the US, based on data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The coronavirus pandemic had killed more Americans than the Vietnam War by late April.

And by around mid-May, the US COVID-19 death toll had already surpassed the combined number of Americans killed in battle in every major US war since 1945 - nearly 87,000. The number of Americans killed by COVID-19 is now equivalent to almost half of the total death toll in the Civil War - approximately 620,000 - which was the bloodiest war in American history.

The US has consistently had the highest numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the world. The national caseload has surpassed 15.5 million as of Thursday, per Johns Hopkins.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday morning noted that the US COVID-19 death toll would soon surpass to the total number of American soldiers killed in battle during WWII.

Pelosi said that the war brought the country together but that President Donald Trump is not a "unifying" president.

"We do not have a unifying President of the United States. In fact, we have a president in denial, delaying, and distorting, calling it a hoax. Many more thousands of people have died because of that," Pelosi said.

Trump has been widely criticized over his response to the US COVID-19 outbreak and polling has consistently shown a majority of Americans disapprove of his handling of the pandemic.

The president has repeatedly downplayed the threat of COVID-19, which he contracted in early October, and gone against the recommendations of top public health experts.

      Now here's a tidbit that will thrill the doomsayers, although it will take some effort to pin this on President Trump;

Suicide among women surges as more people in Japan kill themselves in a single month than the total number lost to COVID-19 in 2020 (yahoo.com)
Suicide among women surges as more people in Japan kill themselves in a single month than the total number lost to COVID-19 in 2020

The suicide rate rose to 2,153 in October from 1,805 in September while the number of COVID-19 deaths reached 1,765, according to the country's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

It would seem that more Japanese committed suicide in Japan in one month than have died from Covid in all of 2020.

Fair enough @shootersa. I dont live in Colorado so will take your word for it. By the way if someone died at home, unless required by law have to pay for autopsies. Is that not true in Colorado? Anyway just as cardiac and stroke deaths were grossly underreported, does it stand to reason that in rural areas those deaths wouldnt be reported at all? Would it not hold true for Covid-19 deaths (direct) as well?

Didnt point out before but will now, firstly she is an economics professor and second she looked at select CDC data. An economics professor publishing a paper about how many deaths were caused by Covid-19 is as hilarious as listening to people say economy is doing awesome cause Dow hit 30k. But no no, that professor is right and the ones that are actually equipped with the correct knowledge are wrong.

Lets take it a step further, Covid-19 exacerbates underlying conditions which leads to death. Is it safe to say that if they didnt contract the virus at least half would be alive if not more? Does that not mean that Covid-19 caused their deaths (indirect)? In similar vein as you pointed out, ' with all elective surgeries canceled people were afraid to go to a hospital.' Would they still be afraid to to go to hospital if the pandemic didnt happen? Why were the elective surgeries canceled in the first, cause while they are necessary, they were just not emergencies.

So my stance is quite simple all these deaths are related to Covid-19 whether direct and indirect. Those who manage to survive thankfully, who knows if any underlying conditions popped up cause they contracted it.

Shooter doesn't know if Colorado deaths in the home require an autopsy. Shooters brother died in his sleep at home, and his wife declined an autopsy; she didn't want him cut up. As far as we know, his death was either an aneurism or heart attack, cause, you know, family history. Except for homicide, suicide, and accident, deaths can be reported by calling the local medical examiners office or 911. As to rural deaths, well, we aren't quite the hayseeds you apparently think. Heck, we got roads out in the sticks, and phones, and hospitals and everything! Pretty much the same process and issues on the farm as in the city.

As to the qualifications of an economics professor, it could be debated that she is just as qualified as anyone to look at numbers and draw conclusions, keeping in mind figures never lie, but liars figure. When Shooter saw the story he was immediately reminded of the issue with cardiac deaths in Colorado.

Covid indeed exacerbates underlying conditions; Shooters cousin was hospitalized with Covid, is grossly obese, in kidney failure, has cardiac issues and is in his mid 80's; they put him on a ventilator and we prepared for the inevitable. But, after 2 days they discharged him, he was now asymptomatic and doing fine. Still is.
Now, here's the thing; if a 95 year old bed ridden senior citizen with all manner of health conditions in hospice care contracts Covid and dies, is that Covid or inevitable? Hell, a cold would kill them just as fast.

Shooter raises the question because 80% or so of Covid patients are either asymptomatic or so mildly effected they don't even require medical care. How is it that for some Covid is a minor annoyance, for others a death sentence, and what does that mean for dealing with it?

The elective surgery thing was to clear beds for what was expected to be a swarm of Covid patients, plus the medicos didn't want people getting knees replaced around Covid patients, and that sort of makes sense. But they really did declare that cardiac surgery, unless indicated because of a heart attack, was "elective". This is exactly Shooters case, he had cardiac surgery not because he had a heart attack but because he wasn't feeling "right" and went to the doctor. The day before his cardiac surgery though, he was popping nitroglycerin tablets every couple of hours. If his surgery had been delayed because it was considered elective he would have needed a ride to the hospital in an ambulance, and as noted, half of all first heart attacks are fatal. With what Shooters surgeon had to say about him, there is no doubt in Shooters mind he would not have made it. But Shooter thinks the reason even cardiac surgery was "elective" was, they just didn't want immune compromised people around covid patients, and they wanted the hospital beds for covid patients.

And that's also why people stayed away from hospitals, they didn't want to be around Covid. Unless you've had a heart attack or stroke you might not understand that until the fucker actually knocks you on your ass, you make excuses and aren't going to go voluntarily. And when it does knock you on your ass, its often too late.

The thing Colorado figured out was that all those home deaths were not being faithfully reported as to the cause of death, which means the Covid numbers were fucked up.

    And another tidbit;
Dr. Fauci now says that it will likely be very late summer before we can hope to put Covid in the rear view mirror.
You see, we have to hit that pesky herd immunity number (whatever that is today, it keeps moving around) and given that the vaccines we are looking forward to are 95% effective, if only half of us get vaccinated, well, we won't hit that herd immunity number. We're gonna need to get 80% or so of us vaccinated.

And that could be an issue, cause first, we won't have enough vaccine to vaccinate 80% of the 328 Million Americans, and second, only 47 percent of Americans want to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, 27 percent said they were unsure, and 26 percent said they would not be getting vaccinated.

Dr. Fauci Says Here's When the Virus Will Be "No Threat to Anyone" (yahoo.com)

Now, Shooter might be a bit paranoid, but this sounds a lot like the precursor to mandatory vaccinations.

Really??? You arent hayseeds??? You have roads, phones, hospitals and everything??? Hell I thought you hayseeds lived in rickety shacks that houses the farm animals , thank you for educating me .

By that same argument it could be debated that am just as qualified considering my own education background and cause I actually worked in R&D for more than 10 years before retiring am just as qualified if not more but argument can be made that I lied. So my question is why are you so sure that she didnt?

Glad he made it through and seems like he didnt have any other effects from contracting the virus, that is great news. A 105 year old senior citizen with no health conditions and in hospice care contracts Covid and dies, is that Covid or just old age......or negligence?

Hell I cant even tell why I would get sick ONLY after my wife used to get sick, her cold would at best last a day or two but when I get it from her it lasts almost a week lol. Its not my field, so all I can say why its so different is roll of the dice.

Hold on there. Shooter never said or inferred that he accepts the johns hopkins study. It is notable that it was censured, like so much about Covid that isn't following the official line.

He has said almost since the beginning that neither the infection rates or mortality rates are reliable.

Posted the links and asked the question to spark a conversation.

In Shooters opinion we've crossed a line. When a crisis happened it used to be that we'd tolerate the conspiracy theory nuts and the weird suggestions but in the end get to the right solution. With this it seems like we're resorting to censorship and highly selective media coverage to smother anything not following the official agenda.

      That is scary.

    Was wondering.
Then we had an update a couple of days ago.

We have now had over 83,000 go through our quarantine and isolation units.

    holy fuck ,
no wonder we keep having a few import cases.
last I heard it was 50,000 through , and that wasn't that long ago.

I have to feel for the workers in all those facilities.
    They all diserve medals.

We're all rarking it up and having a ball ,
summer , schools out , holidays and all the normal summer fun ,
and they basically still have to live under the old covid regime , forever washing , sterilising , wearing PPE's , social distancing , and avoiding contacts outside of their own circles ,
    and
having to have tests constantly every few days.
