after reading the last 2 pages, I am reminded that I am extremely fortunate. The area that I live and work in allows me to be an "outed" atheist with very, very little backlash or animosity - even from hardcore Evangelicals (of which there are quite a bit more than you'd suppose).

It must be in the water . . . the level of tolerance for differing beliefs is astonishing, especially in contrast to other areas of the US. Having been to dozens of areas of the country, there is really no comparision at all to the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm quite proud to have knuckleheads like Bill O'Reilly refer disparagingly to "San Francisco Values". lol

I don't take this accident of fate, or my choice to stay here for granted.

You probably first need to know I believe in Jesus the same way I believe in Muhammad, and Buddha and maybe a few others. Its just the same message in different languages. You also should know and understand the only way you can have the beliefs you claim to have is to go against the teaching's of Jesus, who preached against being a hypocrite more than any other sin.

It's kind of like Jesus himself said Why do you worry about the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye. You hypocrite, remove the plank from your own eye first and then maybe you can see clearly enough to remove the speck of dust from your brother's eye.

You are also ignoring that the message Jesus brought was that he replaced and went beyond the old testament. I can look up the bible verses and sources for this but that would be at least the tired time I've done it on this forum.

What I suggest is you read the actual words Jesus was supposed to have spoken. If you do you'll see nothing but a message of love and tolerance which will plainly tell you not to try and sit in judgment of others.

Cooter isn't really being hypocritical. Completely delusional and dangerous but he clearly specified the difference between a personal offense and one against god. You are comparing apples and oranges if working with a devoutly religious mind.

 

I think "to be quickened from the earth" was a euphemism for "to die" or "to be killed."

 

You're right, the problem with Cooter is not what he believes, for himself...it's that he's willing, even eager, to impose those beliefs on others. Even worse, he's happy to condemn them to Hell, and maybe even hasten their departure through physical action. His is the most dangerous type of religious fanatic -- the kind willing to go down to the neighborhood abortion clinic with a bomb in his pocket, and feel like he's doing the Lord's work.
