I am not sure how this is going to go over. Police have released the video which shows what they are calling an "accidental discharge" because the officer meant to tase Daunte Wright and drew her gun instead by mistake. Just a tragic accident.

I am not sure this is going to work or maybe not even help. Daunte Wright was only 20 years old. And tensions were already sky high with the Chauvin trial. I fear things could turn violent.

Biden Calls for ‘Peace and Calm’ After ‘Tragic’ Death of Daunte Wright: ‘No Justification’ for Looting and Violence

President Joe Biden addressed the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright by a Brooklyn Center, Minnesota police officer during an Oval Office gaggle Monday afternoon.

Wright was shot by a police officer during an otherwise pedestrian traffic stop on Sunday night. Wright was shot and killed as he struggled with police trying to handcuff him over an outstanding arrest warrant. Given the heightened tensions surrounding the Derek Chauvin trial just ten miles away, protests and civil unrest broke out at a Brooklyn Center Walmart and adjacent shopping center, as locals also gathered in protest near the police department offices.

Biden described the death of Daunte Wright as “tragic,” before cautioning to “wait and see what the investigation shows.” He added that there is “no justification” for looting and violence that unfolding, adding that “peaceful protests” were understandable.

Recently released bodycam footage shows officers trying to cuff Mr. Wright, but he struggled free and attempted to drive away. An officer shouted “taser” as she pulled her gun and fired. Police said they believed that the officer attempted to tase Wright, but mistakenly shot him.

This is in absolutely NO WAY blaming the victim. The fact that a 'senior' officer pulled a gun from her right hip rather than a taser from her left hip is mystifying - just the weight difference of the two devices should have told her something wasn't right. I do, however, believe it was a mistake. Officers across the US do not fire a gun only once if a gun is the appropriate response.

That she was yelling 'Taser taser taser! I'm going to tase you!", in the circumstances of the moment, makes it seem believable that it was a huge error that cost a man his life.

This is not evidence of a right to be 'judge, jury and executioner', as the shoddy post by @stumbler would have you think.

There is a saying about mistakes happening because of 'the fog of war', and I believe this was an instance of that. By 'war', I don't mean combat in some foreign land, but here's the thing:

Wright himself brought upon that 'fog of war' - thrusting those cops into a situation where a man with a warrant on him was resisting arrest and trying to flee, and they had to stop him. You saw the video: a calm apprehension turned manic in an instant. When that happens, the door is open for mistakes to happen.

Yes, the officer needs to be gone. We expect better - cops need to be perfect at all times - and sometimes that is a tall order, but she failed and can no longer be there - it's as simple as that.

Again, not blaming the victim, but he set those wheels into motion that led to this unfortunate outcome.
When stopped by the police, especially if they find a warrant out on you, be still, be compliant. You are legitimately in police custody now. Attempting to resist and flee can be tragic, and in this case, it was.

Of course, I expect the Libfucks around to NOT have read this entire post and to start screaming "Oh! You're saying it was all his fault!"

Calm down, pumpkins. read the post.

Daunte Wright killed by cop union president: report

More details are coming out on Brooklyn Center Police officer that shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop.

"Monday night, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified the officer who shot and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center Sunday. The BCA identified the long-time veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department as Officer Kim Potter," KSTP-TV reported Monday evening.

The network revealed a fascinating detail.

"Potter has worked for the department for nearly 25 years and is president of the Brooklyn Center Police Officer's Association. In that role, she has represented other officers involved in deadly shootings," the network reported.

    Protests are ongoing:

Unusual though it may appear I agree with this post.

The questions remain why a taser was required for a traffic stop, was racial profiling involved and what, if any, were the circumstances of the outstanding warrent?

He had a warrant against him. The police didn't know who it was until they ran his information. It came back about the outstanding warrant. They were trying to arrest him for another crime he did.

While some people here like to claim that police officers act like they are 'judge, jury and executioner' it is not appropriate (or their job) to question a warrant. If a warrant has been issued, their job is only to act on it. As for why a taser was needed to be involved, watch the video. They're supposed to wait for him to drive off with officers hanging onto the open door?

That didn't work out too well for that NYC Uber Eats driver that was murdered by those two teenage black girls trying to car jack him.

When Shooter was a cop there was a routine to be followed with traffic stops.
The routine was to stop, observe, approach, process (SOAP).

Traffic stops are the second most dangerous thing cops do. It was always critical to be paying attention and if anything made Shooter uncomfortable, he'd call for backup. Shooter was not paid to be a hero.

Most stops are brief, uncomplicated affairs, "hi, do you know why I stopped you?" (trick question by the way, the automatic answer should be "why did you stop me officer?) Get the ID, run them and the car, write the ticket or warn them and go about your business. And yes, we always ran the driver and the car to see if there were warrants or wants or whatever. By the way, the decision to write a ticket or warn should have been made before you made the stop.

Now, if a warrant shows up or for some other reason you need to arrest the driver or whatever, you don't screw around. When your backup arrives, you let them know what's up, then get the driver out and get cuffs on them without screwing around or discussing it.

Why? Because people panic when they're being arrested. That's normal. Get them off guard and keep them off guard until you have them secured, so they don't get any ideas about escaping, or trying something stupid. Shooter has to laugh at the cops who scream "ON THE GROUND!! GET ON THE GROUND NOW!!" What the fuck, you think acting like a mad man calms things down and gets compliance?? Does that work in any other aspect of your life? Why would you think screaming like a mad man will get compliance or keep things calm or under your control?

One thing Shooter noted with the Minnesota arrest. They tried to cuff Wright while he was standing right next to the car door. Two problems with that; first, its a good way to get sideswiped by some gawker looking to see what's going on. Shooter was actually sideswiped by a guy gawking, and if anyone had been standing outside the car in the street, people would have died. Second, as we saw, Wright panics and takes a crack at escaping. When ever possible, you get them on the sidewalk or between the cars (Shooter never liked the between cars thing, cause you know, squash!).

The other thing is, there were at least 3 cops there. At least 2 of them right there next to Wright, and Wright still manages to jump in his car before any of the three (especially the cop with the cuffs) reacts. And when they do react, tragedy. We did not have tasers when Shooter was a cop, so Shooter can't comment on how someone could confuse their taser with their weapon, but Shooter thinks that's pretty stupid. And Shooter is having trouble understanding how Wright manages to get back in the car before any of the cops even reacts.

This appears to be a tragic accident caused by poorly trained cops doing an incompetent job on a routine arrest.

See there, thinskin, what a marvelous document the Constitution and bill of rights and amendments are?
They remain relevant in the face of technical and societal advances!

Shooter isn't sure what relevance your thingy about never having a cop pull a weapon on you has to the matter at hand. Did you ever ignore the cop, or reach under your seat, or get aggressive or have a warrant for your arrest?
    No?
Then why would the cop be pulling a weapon on you?
Do they do that in the Netherlands?

Oh, and by the way; did you get vaccinated yet?

And conservative/Republicans would like to pretend they don't know why people riot over police shootings and killings. Its because nothing changes. Police keep killing unarmed Black people and most the time get away it.

No internal punishment issued for Kenosha officer who shot Jacob Blake

The Kenosha, Wisconsin, police officer who shot Jacob Blake, leaving him paralyzed, will not face any internal discipline. Rusten Sheskey returned to work March 31 following an internal investigation, the Kenosha Police Department said Tuesday in a press release. Sheskey shot Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, last Aug. 23 seven times in the back, paralyzing him from the waist down. “(Sheskey) acted within the law and was consistent with training,” police said in the release. “Officer Sheskey was found to have been acting within policy and will not be subject to discipline.” Blake’s shooting furt...

Stumbler would have it that police are disarmed and never shoot anyone, for any reason.

Even to defend themselves or others. You know, the old "only criminals have guns" thing.

Then we can start working on police never arresting anyone.

And all so stumbler can keep calling America a shithole country.

North Carolina Cops Suspended After Viral Video Shows Brutal Punches to Black Man

Two North Carolina police officers who were caught on camera delivering brutal punches to a Black man who had fallen on the sidewalk have reportedly been suspended pending an investigation. The video, which went viral after being uploaded to Facebook by an eyewitness, has provoked fury in the city of Kinston. It shows two cops chasing the man across a street and repeatedly pummeling him after he falls. On Tuesday, Kinston Police Chief Tim Dilday identified the two officers as McKinley Jones and Kevin Page, who have since been placed on leave. A police report alleges that the man, David Lee Bruton Jr., threatened to “slap” a woman and tried to flee when confronted by police. Bruton’s mom, Cynthia, told the Free Press that her son didn’t suffer any serious injuries, and she added: “We are really grateful to God that he is alive... Because he could’ve been one of those taken out by police but he was not.”
