Feminism.. dead or not?

Not to sound like Fluffmeister here or anything.. but feminism serves a purpose..

Look at how women were treated, not too many moons ago either! Worse than second class citizens. Our place was in the home, preferably pregnant! We weren't expected to go to school, because we wouldn't be expected to do much else apart from raise a family and look after 'our man'.

I believe that the negative connections with the feminist movement were a direct result of male stereotyping. Of course, this is just my opinion, however if you look at the image feminists had was of man-hating lesbians.

A feminist is merely a female who stands up and says "I am just as good, if not better than my male work colleagues"

Or perhaps a female who leaves the sprogs at home and seeks employment. One who reports crimes against herself perpetuated by her husband. One who opens and runs her own bank account without her husbands written consent or even knowledge!

If I open a door for a male colleague at work, I sometimes get the whispered retort 'feminist' shot at me.. in a friendly, jokey sort of way ofc, but nonetheless it is said. Why? I open doors for my female colleagues, just as often as the males.

I am glad the feminist movement was started. It has opened doors for both me and for women everywhere. We can now, theoretically, attain the same status as our male counterparts in the job market, we now have the same rights to education, healthcare and the right to cast our vote.

We have a voice, but unfortunately some men do not want to hear it!

Very clear and cogent thoughts....but, I actually think feminism IS now dead.....and it probably died at its (or hers) own hand.

Think about it......

The female revolution was all about women getting equal.

And maybe the right to be as sexually predatory as men was part of that deal.........without stigma attached.

So......ok......the female race....or actually quite a small minority of them.....took that on board.

But where did it get them?

Maybe all it really did for them is to make some blokes realise that if commitment wasn't being offered....why the fuck should they return it?

One of the differences between men and women.........and I'm giving away male secrets here......is that, where women strive to be equal......men will always go for revenge.

Womanhood would do well to learn that lesson..

I was trying to say that the male of the species would always go for revenge......whilst the female of the species, given the same situation.....whatever that may be.....would probably settle for equality.

I was just pointing out how 'feminism' may have shot itself in the foot.

 

In my whole life I've never seen any real differences between women and men. The one possible difference might be physical prowess but even that is size dependent. I've seen a couple women roughnecks that could lift, carry, and swing a sledge hammer with any man out there.

I've never seen the supposed differences in intelligence, personality traits, emotions or stability.

I have seen differences in the way some women are raised. I've seen the cultural differences forced on them, and I've seen them adapt their approaches to problem solving and confrontation, but only because of the power difference, physically, economically and politically that they are forced to work with.

I think we make a serious mistake when we think we see differences between races, religions or gender or any other group. Its been studied enough by now it should be unmistakable that the differences between people in any one group are greater than the differences in all th other groups combined.

 

In utero, I want to say at the three month mark but I can't swear to that, male brains are flooded with testosterone which while making for physical developement and aggression, it kills significant portions of the brain which are directly correlated with language skills, facial recognition, and emotion. (Is it any wonder why men have tried to supress women for so long .)

Sure there can be greater differences within groups but that doesn't mean there aren't genetic differences between groups.

 

Which is like saying that slaves shot themselves in the foot by trying to escape. No matter how effective or ineffective the tactics were, slavery was still wrong.

 

Kimi, it 'is still" wrong, not "was". It is alive and well in Africa and Asia, it is enjoying a blind eye scrutiny elsewhere.

Obviously not.

When there are two incomes into the average house, this on average means that the average houses spending power doubles. The average salary here is 20K. So before women came into the workplace, the average house had an income of 20K. Therefore, prices had to be set to accomodate this fact. Now that women are in the workplace the average household income has went up to probably around 30K (since women earn less than men on average because on average they have less skilled jobs). Now that the average household spending power has went up, prices have also went up because they can.

I can't really see any other force behind getting women into the workplace other than feminism. So, feminism is responsible for houses now requiring two incomes to make ends meet.

I'd love to hear your side of the story; unless its filled with rubbish such as widescale oppression of women be men.
