I'm not a big fan of sequels that use the same characters and premise as the original film. In most cases, it becomes a law of diminishing returns. Notable exceptions to that, are Aliens (the extended edition) and Terminator 2 (Although anyone who's watched the sequels after both those franchises, will know that the law of diminishing returns went right back to normal, immediately afterwards).

Where sequels tend to work better is when they are a development of the story, rather than a re-hash of the same situation and characters, transposed into a slightly different environment, each time.

One that comes to mind is Romero's "Dead" series of movies. Night, Dawn and Day of the dead, work well as individual movies in their own right, but the backstory develops throughout each film. (I won't mention the 4th belated movie in the series, because it was to the "Dead" series what "Rocky 5" was to the Rocky series. Yep, it was really that bad.)

As for which movie sequel I'd like to see? Hmmm... you mean there are movies still left out there that haven't been made into sequels?!

Okay, so this isn't a movie or tv show sequal I'd like, but a song.

I want John Mellencamp to do a follow up to Jack and Diane. I'd like to know what happens with them!

 

Transformers 2 is almost definitely going to be made. It is Michael Bay, after all. Starship Troopers is also being made, but I can't imagine why anyone should be put through that. The same with Spawn. That movie was a total waste of time and I lost all respect for Todd MacFarlane.

Jack ends up working in a 3rd rate auto shop and driving a rusted out 1980 Trans Am with a miss-matched door and the lining falling down from the roof. Diane, now a mother of three with an ever-expanding waist line, is a check-out girl at a Casey's Convenience Store. Their oldest son is a 23 year old drop-out who cuts grass when he can be bothered to come out of his room and, although they don't know it yet, their second child, a daughter, 16, is going to get pregnant with the guy in the trailer next door, a 48 year old ex-con who's slowly bleeding his mother dry and selling her prescription meds for beer and cigarettes. Their third son is in Washington state, being raised by an aunt and uncle.

Jack dies at the age of 57 when the hydraulic lift in the garage he was working at breaks and crushes him beneath a '76 Ford Bronco. Diane carries on for a few years until lung cancer gets her. Their oldest son winds up in jail for aggravated assault and 4 counts of possession with the intent to sell and their daughter packed up her stuff and moved to Vegas with her son, never to be heard from again. The youngest son, raised in Washington, grows up to be a teacher and after 15 years gets elected to the school board and eventually town council then mayor. After 3 successful terms, while making a run for Senator for his district dies of a heart attack at the age of 53 from a clogged artery. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

That about sums it up, I think.

Paul Greengrass, the English director of Bournes 2 and 3, was interviewed last year and said that he would make another Bourne film when Spurs (his football team) started tow in stuff again. they won the League Cup earlier in March so I guess he'll be workign on a script right about now then.

 

i would like to see them do a movie that takes the terminator story and advances it to the matrix because it seems to me that the matrix is a natural extention of terminator.
