I believe its obvious what really happened here. The state AG had been to a fund raiser where he was drinking with other Republicans. So he's driving home after having a few too many and hits a man whose face came through his windshield and left his eyeglasses on the front seat of his car. He knows there's no way he can report what actually happened because he will be charged with DUI and negligent homicide. But aside from the dead body there is also damage to his car that he knows he can't hide. So he calls 911 and tells the operator he has hit a deer because in many states like South Dakota collisions with wildlife do not even count as an accident and no police will come out to investigate. Then he drives home to give him a chance to sober up and pass a breathalyzer. And then reports the death the next morning. Then he just lied his way through the investigation knowing his fellow treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans are not going to look too hard or charge him with perjury. But it looks bad so now they are going to impeach him even though he's already said he will not seek re election to create the appearance they are doing something about a drunk driving homicide by the Attorney General.

Impeachment begins for South Dakota attorney general who killed a man

Jason Ravnsborg. (South Dakota Attorney General’s Office)

South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg hit a man while driving home from a political fundraiser, leaving him for dead in the road. But in the 647 days since, Rolling Stone noted that Ravnsborg has only doubled down on staying in his position as the state's top lawmaker.

A whopping 70 percent of the state wants him to resign and he was the first state official in South Dakota to be impeached.

“Some of his closest friends have asked him to step down, and still he resists,” the South Dakota House Speaker Spencer Gosch told the magazine. "I honestly couldn’t tell you why."

Gosch was among those Republicans who voted against impeachment, however. Ravnsborg is still being impeached, with a trial scheduled to begin Tuesday.

IN OTHER NEWS: Pressure on Trump and his allies intensifies as Jan. 6 committee rolls out shocking new evidence

Ravnsborg has become a huge problem for the political career of Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), who is being rumored as a possible vice presidential running mate for Donald Trump if he runs in 2024. Even without Trump, Noem is expected to be among the Republican candidates for president if not in 2024 then in the presidential election that follows.

She has already begun fighting against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), a 2024 presumptive presidential candidate. He has promoted his actions around COVID-19, saying that he allowed for greater freedoms for the state. Noem fought back against the idea, saying that she never closed her state's business the way that DeSantis did.

As she eyes her next political steps she has pressured Republicans to impeach Ravnsborg. Killing a man and leaving the scene made him a political pariah, but two years later the GOP hasn't completely turned on him.

"In the April vote, more than half of the Republicans in the state House voted against impeachment, despite Noem’s prodding. Many of those legislators have their doubts that Noem is pushing to remove Ravnsborg for virtuous reasons," Rolling Stone reported.

READ MORE: 'You're trailing significantly': Fox News host busts Dr. Oz for lying about poll numbers

At the same time as the crash, Ravnsborg was taking on the state's richest man, T. Denny Sanford over child pornography. Meanwhile, he was probing many of Noem's alleged crimes and possible ethics violations. That gave Republican foes of hers an out to make it not about the attorney general who killed a man but about the governor.

“Why is Gov. Noem going to the mat to try and get this guy out?” the report quoted Republican state Rep. Tom Pischke. “What does Jason have on her?”

Ravnsborg's 911 call after hitting 55-year-old Joe Boever discussed concerns he “hit something.” The 911 dispatcher asked Ravnsborg if it was possible that it was a deer. “I have no idea. Yeah, it could be.” It wasn't

“It’s very evident in my mind that he knew he hit a body that night, and then went home and left him there until the next day,” said Rep. Tim Goodwin, another Republican said.

IN OTHER NEWS: Proud Boys leader is 'broke and jobless' — and needs to tell 'his side of' January 6: attorneys

“I don’t believe he ever thought he hit a deer,” echoed Democrat Jamie Smith, who serves as the minority leader in the state House.

Ravnsborg was never charged with the murder, merely driving while using a mobile device, improper lane driving and careless driving. He made a plea deal. He paid a $500 fine for two charges. Prior to hitting the man, Ravnsborg was pulled over at least 15 times in two years by police.

“If Jason doesn’t get removed,” a source close to Noem told Rolling Stone, “it’s a major hit for her.”

And what treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans ignore when they try to claim Trump was proven innocent the 7 conservative/Republicans who voted to convict him was easily the largest number of lawmakers to ever vote to find a president of their own party guilty at impeachment proceedings.

Steve Bannon to address spouses of GOP lawmakers one day after his contempt trial is set to begin: report

Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway will headline a seminar next month hosted by the Republican Congressional Wives Speakers which is open to all members' spouses, POLITICO reports.

Bannon's appearance at the seminar will take place once day after his trial on contempt of Congress charges begins. The charges are in relation to his refusal to abide by a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee.

"Dr. Robert Malone, who has come under fire for spreading misinformation about Covid vaccines on conservative platforms, is also on the list, as is Frank Gaffney — who has faced charges of trafficking in Islamophobia dating back to his time as a 2016 campaign adviser to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)," POLITICO reports. "The head of the Texas-based nonprofit True the Vote, Catherine Englebrecht, is also on the list of speakers. Her group has raised millions of dollars by parroting claims of widespread voter fraud, according to Reveal, which is part of the nonprofit Center for Investigative Reporting."

Bannon, who investigators suspect could have information on links between the White House and the Trump supporters who invaded the Capitol, was charged with two counts of contempt -- for ignoring subpoenas to appear for a deposition and for failing to supply documents to the committee.

IN OTHER NEWS: Lone Star hate: How Texas lost its mind

The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack subpoenaed Bannon, 67, on September 23. He was among the first of dozens of people who have been called to testify on the violent attack that shut down Congress as it convened to certify Joe Biden's election win over Trump two months earlier.

The committee said it has reason to believe Bannon has "information relevant to understand important activities that led to and informed the events at the Capitol."

The committee pointed to his presence at activities focused on blocking Congress's certification session the day before, when he said: "All hell is going to break loose tomorrow."

After Trump claimed executive privilege to block aides from testifying and to prevent the committee from accessing documents from his administration, Bannon said he would not testify until questions over privilege had been resolved.

READ MORE: Jan. 6 committee members see huge increase in violent threats in past 24 hours: report

The House then voted to refer contempt of Congress charges to the Justice Department. Each count carries a penalty of one month to one year in jail.

'Bring this queer to jail!' Louisiana councilman-elect caught hurling anti-gay slurs in bar fight

According to KLFY, a former police chief just elected to the city council in Abbeville, Louisiana, was caught on film spewing slurs in a bar fight, with the footage released the night before he's set to be sworn into office.

"Body camera footage obtained by News Ten from the Abbeville Police Department shows newly elected city councilman Tony Hardy getting into a fight at a local bar and using homophobic slurs," reported Britt Lofaso. "At the time, Hardy was still a political candidate running for office."

"'Hey queer boy, hey queer boy. You’ll never get a bleep chance like that again. You’ll never get another chance like that. I’ll hurt you next time, bleep,' Hardy is heard saying to a man he had gotten into the fight with in the body camera footage," said the report. "After yelling at the man, Hardy turns to a police officer and says, 'Hey, I’m not doing nothing. Do your bleeping job. Bring that bleep to jail. Bring this queer to jail.'"

"According to the incident report from Abbeville Police, when officers arrived, Hardy and an unidentified man were in an verbal altercation. The report says both men were irate. Officers separated the men and then spoke with the bar owner who said she did not want to kick anyone out but wanted the men separated. While officers were speaking with the bar owner, the report says Hardy and a different man got into a verbal fight, and it became physical," said the report. "The body camera video shows the two men pushing and punching one another. An officer ran towards the altercation. 'You saw that? I’m filing charges on that bleep,' Hardy tells the officer."

IN OTHER NEWS: 'Don't let it happen!' Trump begs Newsmax host not to cut his election conspiracy rant

Hardy did not start the physical altercation, according to witnesses, but had been "antagonizing" the other person.

A number of local officials have landed in hot water after being caught making slurs. In New Jersey, a mayor was found to have secretly used racial slurs while speaking with the police chief, and the city paid $400,000 to try to silence a whistleblower. And a jailer in Bullitt County, Kentucky has blamed "stress" on his use of the N-word, and even tried to coerce Black employees to attend a GOP function with him to try to appear less racist.

Trump-loving Arizona Senate candidate receives 'forceful endorsement' from Nazi Daily Stormer founder

One of the internet's most notorious neo-Nazis has joined Donald Trump in endorsing Arizona candidate Blake Masters for the U.S. Senate.

Andrew Anglin, who publishes the hate site Daily Stormer, announced his endorsement of Masters in a blog post that also expressed support for Trump-endorsed Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance, another GOP candidate bankrolled by billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel, reported Jewish Insider.

“I cannot give a more forceful endorsement, and I demand that anyone in Arizona (who is not some kind of known neo-Nazi or whatever) get in contact with his campaign and see what kind of help he needs,” Anglin wrote in the June 9 entry. “This is exactly the kind of man this country needs."

The 37-year-old Anglin, an outspoken admirer of Adolf Hitler and an early Trump supporter, has gone into hiding since helping to orchestrate the 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, and he has struggled to keep his operation online while evading lawsuits related to various harassment campaigns he allegedly provoked.

IN OTHER NEWS: 'Very big deal': Former J6 Committee investigator says messages sent to Cassidy Hutchinson should be referred to DOJ

“Anglin habitually uses The Daily Stormer to celebrate and encourage right-wing political violence,” said journalist Luke O’Brien, who has written extensively about the neo-Nazi influencer. “He has a tepid blanket disclaimer on the front page of his site in an attempt to create legal cover for himself.”

Masters refers to himself as a "nationalist" and approvingly quoted Nazi leader Hermann Goering in a 2006 online essay, and he has expressed agreement with the white nationalist "great replacement theory" and blamed gun violence on "Black people, frankly," so Anglin's endorsement is somewhat unsurprising.

“White supremacists like Anglin have long telegraphed their desire to occupy our institutions, and the fastest way to get there is through political campaigns,” said Michael Edison Hayden, a senior investigative reporter and spokesperson for the Southern Poverty Law Center. “He apparently sees an ally in Masters. I’d be very curious to see whether Masters will make any effort to disavow him.”

The Masters campaign did not respond to a request for comment, but O'Brien said Anglin has worked directly with Thiel associates in the past, including entrepreneur Jeff Giesea, who has collaborated with Daily Stormer associate Andrew “Weev” Auernheimer and others associated with the site.

“Peter Thiel’s losing streak is up,” Anglin wrote. “I don’t agree with everything the man endorses, and I don’t think he agrees with everything he endorses, but JD Vance and Blake Masters are going to change the entire game.”

“Masters is better than Vance, frankly,” he added. "[He is] married to a white women [sic] with sons despite some possibly questionable mannerisms.”

‘Aggressively dishonest’: Trump-backed Kari Lake whacked with brutal CNN fact check

    Screengrab.

Election denier Kari Lake was the subject of a hard-hitting new analysis by CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale.

"A leading Republican candidate for governor of Arizona, Kari Lake, continues to put lies about the 2020 presidential election at the center of her campaign – this week calling it 'disqualifying' and 'sickening' for a rival candidate not to say that the election was stolen, though it wasn’t stolen," he reported. "Lake’s strong performance in the Republican primary so far means that an aggressively dishonest promoter of conspiracy theories about the 2020 election could potentially have a prominent role in the 2024 presidential election in a key swing state."

At the debate, Lake lied about President Joe Biden when she said, “He lost the election and he shouldn’t be in the White House.”

"As supposed proof, Lake cited a 'forensic audit.' A shambolic Republican-initiated partisan review, described by supporters as an audit but marred by problems, confirmed that Biden beat Trump in Arizona’s most populous county," Dale noted. "Lake also defended a right-wing film about the 2020 election that is filled with holes of logic and evidence, even after the debate moderator noted that Trump-appointed former Attorney General William Barr had scoffed at the film. And Lake falsely said that 34,000 Arizona ballots 'were counted two, three and four times,' though this simply did not happen."

And Lake is even trying to clean up her lies during the debate.

"Lake’s campaign declined to make a substantive comment for this article. When asked for supporting information about Lake’s false claim that ballots were counted up to four times, an adviser replied only by mocking CNN," Dale reported.

Early voting begins on Wednesday in the August 2 GOP

Lake has been endorsed by Trump.

One of the lies conservative/Republicans love to tell is they are "fiscally responsible." And all you would have to do is read this thread to see what a laughable lie that is. They only pretend to care about the deficit and debt if a Democrat is president. But when its a Republican president like Trump its roll those money presses. Print that money. Money does grow on trees because that's where we get our paper to print our IOU's. Run that budget deficit up to a trillion dollars in a time of prosperity.

    https://forum.xnxx.com/threads/the-lie-of-conservatism-shootersa-jdbfromnj.477776/

But treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans are now taking the fiscally responsible lies to a whole new level.

Idaho Trumper misses paycheck after mismanagement left her office with only $0.72: report

    Bob Brigham
    July 02, 2022

    Office of the Idaho Lt.Governor.

Improper public records management has taken a personal financial toll on the controversial lieutenant governor of Idaho.

"Idaho Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin deferred most of her June 24 paycheck to balance her office’s budget, leaving the budget with less than $1 left before the 2022 fiscal year closed Thursday," the Idaho Statesman reported Friday. "McGeachin faced a shortfall after using her taxpayer-funded operating budget to pay for $29,000 in legal fees. Most of the expenses covered attorney fees for the Idaho Press Club, which successfully sued McGeachin last year when she declined to hand over public records."

Under a plan from Chief Deputy Controller Joshua Whitworth, McGeachin deferred $1,713.26 of her June 24 wages until the next fiscal year.

McGeachin, who unsuccessfully challenged Gov. Brad Little with the endorsement of Donald Trump in June GOP primary, initially tried to blame Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, also a Republican, for her budget shortfall.

"The Idaho Press Club last year won a lawsuit that sought the release of public records regarding McGeachin’s education task force, which was looking for indoctrination in Idaho schools. Reporters had requested responses to a Google Forms survey that McGeachin circulated earlier in the year soliciting public feedback, as well as additional records," the newspaper reported. "A judge mandated that McGeachin release the records and pay the Idaho Press Club’s legal costs. McGeachin eventually asked that taxpayers fund what her office was forced to pay, 'due to unforeseen legal bills related to a lawsuit from the Idaho Press Club after the attorney general’s office failed to properly represent' her."

Her office ended the fiscal year with only $0.72.

The newspaper noted McGeachin had previously dismissed reports of her office's budget shortfall as "fake news."

McGeachin will remain in office as a lame-duck until January, when she will be succeeded by Scott Bedke (R) or Terri Pickens Manweiler (D).

PS Also note the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican lie that one of their values is "personal responsibility." The hallmark of their Chosen One Traitor Trump is he never took responsibility for anything and always blamed others. And we can see the same lie right here on our little forum where treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans can't even admit when they are wrong.

Here's a guy pulling the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican psychological projection trick of falsely accusing the left of being Marxist while he is literally standing there asking the government to pay is personal legal expenses. Griffin, the founder of Cowboys for Trump, faces a lawsuit seeking to bar him from office after he was convicted for participating in the January 6 insurrection. After his arrest, he said, “there’s going to be blood running out of that building” when he returned to Washington for Joe Biden’s inauguration.

He was also recently in the news for refusing to certify New Mexico’s recent primary election results.

Unfortunately for Griffin, his request for taxpayer dollars for his newer legal woes was not just denied but laughed at by members of the public. Not surprisingly, the guy who likes to talk tough had his fee-fees hurt, as the Albuquerque Journal reported:

His defense sparked laughter from members of the audience Friday as he made the case for county legal representation and said it was time to take a stand against “tyrannical Marxists” who want to take away freedom.

“Look this is hard enough without you all laughing,”
Griffin said at one point in the meeting.

That was just part of what looks like a very bad, expensive summer for Griffin. Earlier in the week, a federal judge dismissed his lawsuit trying to shut down the case seeking to bar him from office.

Dozens of White Supremacist Patriot Front Members March Through Boston

About 100 members of the white supremacist group Patriot Front paraded through downtown Boston on Saturday, with several of them holding riot shields. Photos from the Boston Herald show members of the group unloading their infamous U-Haul and several counterprotesters confronting them as they marched along with a “Reclaim America” banner. The white supremacist group made national headlines in June when several members were busted by police on their way to an Idaho Pride parade. Local authorities were quick to make their opinion about the group known on Saturday. “To the white supremacists who ran through downtown today: When we march, we don’t hide our faces,” Mayor Michelle Wu tweeted. “Your hate is as cowardly as it is disgusting, and it goes against all that Boston stands for.”

Rep. Tricia Derges resigns from Missouri House after being convicted of 22 federal charges

    Galen Bacharier, Springfield News-Leader
    Tue, July 5, 2022 at 12:07 PM·3 min read

Rep. Tricia Derges resigned from the Missouri House of Representatives on Friday, days after a jury found her guilty of 22 federal charges.

The Nixa Republican was convicted on counts of wire fraud, illegal distribution of controlled substances and making false statements to federal investigators in the conclusion of her trial last week. In a letter to Speaker Rob Vescovo, she resigned her seat representing Christian County.

"For many years, it has been my humble honor to have served the lord by bringing medical care to thousands of forgotten citizens in SW Missouri: the homeless, our veterans, the impoverished and uninsured," Derges wrote. "Care that helped alleviate the unspeakable pain many people lived in, helping to save lives from uncontrolled chronic diseases, healing wounds and saving limbs from amputation. The most rewarding work I have ever done."

Derges, who rose to prominence in southwest Missouri through her founding and operation of several medical clinics, was found to have fraudulently obtained federal aid money for her nonprofit clinic, lied to patients about "stem cell" treatments that did not contain stem cells and mixed money between the nonprofit, Lift Up Springfield, and her Ozark Valley Medical Clinic locations.

Tricia Derges: Lawmaker found guilty of wire fraud, illegal prescriptions, lying to feds

Her sentencing will be determined in the coming months; the jury also voted to allow the government to keep $300,000 in CARES Act money she received for her clinic's COVID-19 testing that had already been reimbursed prior.

First elected in 2020, Derges continued to push for an expansion of Missouri's assistant physician program. A licensed assistant physician herself, she wanted to allow them to become licensed, expanding the medical field and relieving labor shortages in the field.

In her resignation letter, she called the lack of access to licensing for assistant physicians a "tragedy" and urged for further legislation on the program.

"Missouri was a trailblazer with this phenomenal healthcare solution," Derges wrote. "I pray that the value of this program will one day be welcomed and appreciated. These valuable doctors are a resource that we cannot afford to lose."

Rep. Tricia Derges' resignation letter from the Missouri House.
Last legislative session, Derges filed a bill aiming to allow assistant physicians a path to licensing. But it went nowhere — Derges' federal indictment was unveiled in early 2021 and she was quickly stripped of much of her power in Jefferson City. She was kicked out of House Republican caucus meetings, stripped of her committee assignments, and re-assigned to a broom closet-sized office in the Capitol building. Meanwhile, other lawmakers have sought to tighten requirements to be licensed as a physician.

Her resignation means she will not be in Jefferson City for a special session focused on taxes and the veto session later this year. She will be sentenced in the coming months.

She was blocked from running for re-election as a Republican, and after being convicted cannot run for office under Missouri law. Two Republicans, Jamie Ray Gragg and Danny Garrison, and a Democrat, Amy Freeland, are running for her seat this fall.

The US government just officially connected a neo-Nazi Satanist group to terrorism in court

It has been two years since a Satan-inspired U.S. Army private tried to have his unit attacked by jihadi militants.

After being found guilty for three terrorism-related federal charges, Rolling Stone wrote that Ethan Melzer was part of the Order of Nine Angles sect based in the UK that holds neo-Nazi ideology and attempts to build a militaristic new social order. Their ultimate goal is to populate the Milky Way Galaxy with Aryan people. Prosecutors at the Justice Department argued that the Order should be considered to be a terrorist group like Al Qaeda.

Melzer is among the biggest fears of military and law enforcement leaders. He was an "insider threat" with the hope of acting against Americans. Questions have surfaced over the past several years about such threats from anti-government militia members and far-right extremists. The Jan. 6 attack on Congress alerted law enforcement to many police officers and military members who were willing to participate in an attempt to overthrow the government.

"The former soldier’s conviction is the first time American authorities have articulated and prosecuted actions driven by a Satanist sect that has inspired millenarian neo-Nazi domestic terrorists and led to several homicides overseas," said Rolling Stone. "British law enforcement is so alarmed by the noxious ideology that the Home Office is under pressure to formally ban the Order of Nine Angles as they have done to Al Qaeda, National Action, and other terrorist groups. The importance of Melzer’s case was signaled by the dozens of federal law-enforcement officers in plainclothes present in court last Friday to watch the disgraced G.I. plead guilty."

IN OTHER NEWS: Rick Wilson gives hilariously profane preview of 'bloody, brutal, gut-spilling fight' between DeSantis and Trump

The Justice Department hopes that they can use the case to establish that the Order of Nine Angles is an extremist group linked to terrorism. In March, Republicans blocked a bill aimed to fully fund offices that focus specifically on domestic terrorism at the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the FBI.

"In both the presentation of Assistant U.S Attorney Matthew Hellman on June 24 and the expert testimony a month prior of Dr. Pete Simi, an academic specializing in right-wing extremism, a formal record was made not only of Melzer’s ties to the ideology, but specifics of its origins, influence on the contemporary far-right at large, practices and goals, and how the former soldier’s actions comported with the Satanist cult’s 'social Darwinist' principles, as Dr. Simi testified on May 24th."

Melzer's participation dates back to 2017 and the case put a heavy emphasis on his involvement with the group. Thus, the case officially connected the Order of Nine Angles to terrorism in the American court system "on par with the jihadis Melzer hoped would kill his fellow soldiers.

This is something I have never been able to figure out since my first days on this forum. What is the attraction for treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans to hang around on a porn forum when another Holy Grail of the right is to outlaw pornography just like this site. Other than just being raving hypocrites it makes no sense.

Free-speech groups and book world fight back in Virginia obscenity case

Book publishers, booksellers, authors and free-speech groups are pushing back against a Virginia law that allowed obscenity claims to proceed in court against two books that have come under fire from conservatives who say they’re inappropriate for young readers.

The ACLU of Virginia, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and numerous bookstores and book proponents are getting involved in the legal case playing out in Virginia Beach, where a retired judge made an initial ruling indicating the LGBTQ-themed memoir “Gender Queer” and the fantasy novel “A Court of Mist and Fury” could be considered obscene for minors due to explicit sex scenes. The case has drawn national attention due to the seemingly unique attempt to restrict sales of the books by private bookstores as opposed to simply removing them from public-school libraries.

Michael Bamberger, a top First Amendment lawyer based in New York, worked with the ACLU to file a motion to dismiss the case on behalf of the Authors Guild, American Booksellers for Free Expression, Association of American Publishers, American Library Association, Virginia Library Association the Freedom to Read Foundation and a handful of small, independent Virginia bookstores. The groups, according to court filings, have “a strong interest in ensuring that a broad selection of non-obscene fiction and non-fiction reading material be made available to readers, including material that challenges them.”

“I believe that children should be encouraged to read whatever interests them, whatever they find meaningful,” Bamberger, senior counsel at the Dentons law firm, said in an interview. “And setting up these sort of baskets that say no minor can read this book is not the way to go.”

Attorneys for the publishers and authors of the two books are also seeking to have the case dismissed, arguing the Virginia law is unconstitutional and the books themselves cannot be considered obscene based on sex scenes that only make up a portion of a larger literary work.

Virginia law defines “obscene” as material that has sex as its “dominant theme” and “taken as a whole, does not have serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.”

“Under the law, these books are not obscene,” said Darpana Sheth, FIRE’s vice president of litigation. “Obscenity is a legal term of art. And the First Amendment simply does not allow banning books simply because they may be read by minors.”

FIRE, which began as a civil liberties group focused on college campuses but recently broadened its mission into broader issues of free expression, isn’t formally intervening in the case but is planning to file a brief to inform the court, according to Sheth.

A multitude of attorneys from several different law firms are now working to defend the free flow of books and block the suit filed in late April by Del. Tim Anderson, R-Virginia Beach, on behalf of Tommy Altman, a former Republican congressional candidate from Virginia Beach who finished third in a four-way GOP primary last month.

Anderson, an attorney and Trump-style firebrand serving his first term in the House of Delegates, had sought a temporary restraining order against Barnes & Noble that would have prevented the bookstore chain from making the books accessible to minors. That request has not yet been acted upon. Retired Judge Pamela Baskervill, who’s overseeing the case after Virginia Beach judges recused themselves because the legislature appoints judges, set the next hearing in the case for Aug. 30.

In an interview Wednesday, Anderson said the fact that more than 20 lawyers are lining up against him is a sign of the seriousness of his case and not the type of response you’d see in a “slam dunk First Amendment case.” The request for age restrictions on media content, he said, is “narrow” and not as novel as headlines about “book banning” suggest.

“I think the majority of society accepts that they don’t want a 12-year-old going to an R-rated movie at AMC,” Anderson said. “They don’t want a 9-year-old buying an extremely violent video game without their parents knowing what’s going on.”

In the meantime, lawyers representing Barnes & Noble have argued allowing the case to proceed would be a dangerous step toward the type of book bans the country seemed to have left behind.

“There was a time in American history, before the development of contemporary First Amendment doctrine, when best-selling and critically-acclaimed books faced the risk of being declared obscene,” a team of lawyers from the D.C.-based firm Davis Wright Tremaine wrote in a May 30 letter to Baskervill on behalf of Barnes & Noble. “But no mainstream books by established publishers have been found to be obscene in the past 60 years.”

The attorneys fighting the use of the obscenity law have argued it has severe procedural flaws, including authorizing courts to issue restraining orders against books without any notification or involvement from the businesses selling them. The obscene-book law creates a civil proceeding against the book itself, but the criminal penalties involved can fall on anyone who sells or distributes a book deemed obscene.

“That’s a bizarre procedure to start off with,” Bamberger said. “But then what is most troubling to retailers and publishers is that if in this hearing in Virginia Beach some book is held obscene, that applies to the entire state. And so a bookseller who’s in Arlington and knows nothing about the case and has received no notification and is not involved in the case in any way suddenly can be charged with a felony for selling the book.”

The defense has also pointed out the law doesn’t have any clear provision for deeming books obscene for children but suitable for adults. It does, however, allow judges to carve out a specific category of people “to whom the book is not obscene.”

From a legal perspective, the cases are virtually identical, but “Gender Queer,” a story about LGBTQ identity in a comic book-style format, has drawn stronger criticism from some parents due to an illustration depicting oral sex and other explicit content. Members of the Virginia Beach School Board chose to remove “Gender Queer” from school libraries after a review deemed the book “pervasively vulgar,” going against a staff recommendation to keep the book in school libraries.

Anderson said the illustrated depiction of oral sex in the book is “harmful to a child’s mind.”

“They shouldn’t have access to that material without adult supervision,” he said. “And that’s it.”

Bamberger said the obscenity law, as written, was meant to apply to material the courts felt no one should read and it cannot be used to let any Virginia resident go to court to try to restrict what all children can read.

“That’s not what the law says,” Bamberger said. “And neither of these books are obscene for adults. Clearly.”

Michigan Republican bragged about his 'golden' genitals to subordinates: lawsuit

    Kevin Rinke (campaign website).

On Thursday, the Associated Press revealed new details about past discrimination lawsuits against Kevin Rinke, a former Toyota dealership owner now running for governor of Michigan.

"Court documents state that Rinke also referred to his own genitals as 'golden' while threatening to sexually assault a used car manager if he didn’t 'do a good job,'" reported Brian Slodysko, Sara Burnett, and Thomas Beaumont. "If the manager did a 'great job,' the court documents state, Rinke would have allowed the man to pleasure him sexually."

"Much of Rinke’s conduct was reported by his personal secretary, who alleged that he would inquire about her underwear, call her at home if she failed to say goodnight and would also phone to ask 'which young stud' she was with while speculating about her sex life," said the report. "Once, when employees were looking at pictures of newborn babies, Rinke commented on how well-endowed one of the baby boys was, the lawsuit states."

READ: 'Tie all those pieces together': Former Trump lawyer draws a map for DOJ's criminal prosecution

This comes after previous reporting by The Detroit News, which revealed past litigation alleges Rinke made a number of sexist comments including that women are too "ignorant and stupid" to work in public, and that he used racial slurs and asked a Black employee who he stole his car from at a party.

Rinke denies all of the allegations about his behavior in the workplace, saying, “It wasn’t true then. It wasn’t true now.”

Rinke is one of a handful of Republicans running for Michigan governor after several of the leading candidates were disqualified from the ballot for signature irregularities. Another of the remaining candidates, Ryan Kelley, was arrested by the FBI last month for his activities at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, and was arraigned today on multiple charges.

"In his Facebook bio Hernandez claims he works for the Oklahoma state senate. Ethics records show he was at one time paid to be Education Secretary Ryan Walter’s campaign manager," he reported.

Walter's campaign sought to distance himself from Hernandez in a statement from spokesperson Matt Langston.

"This is extremely disappointing and concerning. Hernandez worked less than 2 weeks for the campaign in an outreach role, but he did not adequately meet our needs," he said. "His role was terminated swiftly based on lack of performance and the campaign’s needs."

The state GOP also sought to distance itself.

“The Oklahoma Republican Party condemns all instances of sexual assault in the strongest possible terms. Victims deserve justice, and their assailants should be punished to the fullest extent of the law," Oklahoma GOP Chairman A.J. Ferate said in a statement.

"We did not have any prior knowledge of investigations into Mr. Hernandez and will let the judicial process play out," he added.

The report came two days after Hernandez bragged on Twitter about receiving the "Chairman's Championship Award" from RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel.

He also thanked Oklahoma Republican National Committeewoman Pam Pollard and Ferate for their "unwavering support."

"It means the world to me!" he said, with American flag and heart emoji.

Michigan Republican prosecutor with a history of sexual harassment claims stands accused of more misconduct – official probe

A central Michigan prosecutor with a long history of sexual harassment allegations has now been found by investigators to have used sexual comments –among other misconduct– with employees in his current office.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido was accused of having “made in appropriate statements containing sexual comments and/or sexual innuendo,” after a months-long investigation commissioned by County Executive Mark Hackel, the Detroit Free Press reported. Lucido also was accused by investigators of using employees “for personal and some campaign-type activities.”

A memorandum from Butzel Long, a law firm specializing in work place complaints, indicated 16 current and former employees of the prosecutor's office were interviewed, the report said. Lucido refused to be interviewed. Here’s more: “According to the memorandum, nine people reported Lucido treating female administrative staff in an offensive manner and less favorably than male staff. His conduct toward female staff was described as "rude," "unprofessional," and "brutal," it stated.

Two people reported that on Valentine's Day Lucido said, "that he would like some kisses from his ladies,” according to the memorandum. It stated another person reported that after a newspaper article was published about a photo of him at a fundraiser touching a woman on her backside, Lucido said: "Where was I supposed to put my hand, she has a big ass."

IN OTHER NEWS: Lauren Boebert argues her husband was the real victim of infamous lewd exposure incident

Lucido was similarly accused of sexual misconduct when he was a Michigan state senator – a position he held before his election in 2020 as county prosecutor.

Here’s what Raw Story reported earlier, citing Michigan Advance coverage: “In 2020, a Senate Business Office investigation into Lucido found that the GOP official engaged in “inappropriate workplace behavior” during his time as a state senator that “demonstrates an unfortunate pattern of behavior” after three women made their allegations public. A fourth woman later came forward in March 2021 with Lucido denying the allegations.”

Also in 2020, reporter Allison R. Donahue told of a humiliating interaction with Lucido outside the Michigan Senate chamber. She had waited for Lucido to ask “about the Detroit Metro Times’ story reporting that he was a member of a violent, anti-Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Facebook group, which has since been deleted. ”In front of a group of 30 boys from a Catholic high school who were visiting Lucido, Donahue says he told her – to much laughter – that ““You should hang around! You could have a lot of fun with these boys, or they could have a lot of fun with you.

”The investigation by Macomb County government “includes complaints, findings and recommendations that Lucido be provided training concerning the Elliott-Larson Civil Rights Act and applicable county policies. “If he doesn't agree to undergo training and modify his behavior, the investigator recommended the county "engage legal counsel for possible legal action to force Prosecutor Lucido to comply; with applicable law and county employment policies,” the Free Press reported.

'Pool boy' in Jerry Falwell Jr scandal to speak out in new Hulu documentary: report

    Matthew Chapman
    July 12, 2022

    Gage Skidmore.

On Tuesday, the Miami New Times reported that an upcoming documentary on Hulu will cover the 2020 sex scandal involving Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife — from the perspective of Giancarlo Granda, the pool boy allegedly involved in the arrangement.

"As first reported by Variety, Granda will be at the center of an upcoming Hulu documentary co-produced by Miami natives Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman through their film production company Rakontur, alongside Oscar winner Adam McKay (co-writer of Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and The Other Guys) and Todd Schulman (producer of Who Is America with Sacha Baron Cohen)," reported Alex DeLuca. "Corben will direct the project."

The scandal was a blow to the image of Falwell, a supporter of former President Donald Trump and the longtime director of the far-right, evangelical Liberty University.

ALSO IN THE NEWS: Oath Keepers chief Stewart Rhodes' son explains why he left 'daddy Trump' — and the 'far-right' cult

"Reuters' Aram Roston reported that Granda said he was 20 when he first met the Falwells while working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau. He said that from 2012 to 2018 he'd meet the couple 'multiple times per year' at hotels in Miami and New York, as well as at the Falwells’ home in Virginia, to have sex with Becki Falwell while her husband 'looked on,'" noted the report. "Granda said the ménage à trois eventually fizzled, in part owing to an ugly business dispute involving a Miami Beach youth hostel. (A Politico reporter who spent a weekend there in 2017 deemed it a 'flophouse' that welcomed a laundry list of behaviors that would likely get students expelled from Liberty University, the Christian school founded by Falwell's father, noted televangelist Jerry Falwell Sr.)."

Previous reports have revealed a number of additional lurid details about the sex scandal.

Granda has broken down Jerry Falwell's "predatory behavior," in a previous CNN interview. Another report indicated that Jerry Falwell took testosterone supplements in order to win back his wife from Granda.
