All I want to know ShakeZula is how you get from the weirdness of something like this to the Nazi extreme of forced sterilization. This could actually be a couple arguing about whether or not their son should be allowed to join the Boy Scouts or if the child should be allowed to join a church. I think calling for forced sterilization over a domestic spat is pretty extreme on your part.

I already outlined a very logical system in a different thread.

You would need to develop a method of birth control that will not interfere with puberty and then every child when they turn 12 or 13, whatever, they are put on this birth control. Having the procedure reversed would require meeting a minimum set of standards which would be things like being drug free, have a stable living environment and be financial capable of taking care of a child.

We already have a very strict system for allowing parents to adopt, you could simply transfer that over with some possible modifications in order to screen people who want to have children.

I really can't see what would be so bad about it. It's better for all sides. Think about it; no more crack babies, no more fetal alcohol syndrome, no more teen pregnancy, it could slash abortion down to almost a fraction of what it is today, you practically eliminate the welfare state as people can no longer have children to get more government benefits. You make parenthood something to aspire to. I would fully support something like this. All it does is prevent people from having babies who can not handle the responsibility of it. Just because you can fuck doesn't mean you should have kids.

If you look at the example of the poor kid born in to the family in the article, what kind of life will he have? He's only 4 and the highest aspirations his parents have for him is gang membership. It's possible he might break away from the cycle of poverty and ignorance, but not likely. What gives them the right to do that to another human being?

This sounds fine in principle Shake, but it raises the issue of 'Medication without Consent' which I assume is the law in the US, as it is in the EU.
The only time this right can be legally set aside is in circumstances where someone is sectioned for mental health issues, (although the fluoridation of drinking water is a moot point), and are deemed incapable of giving that consent.

Compulsory contraception would set a precedent for the infringement of the right not to be medicated.

I shudder to think what that might lead to!

 

It doesn't have to be forced, but we can make it like vaccinations. If you want your kid to go to public school, vaccinations are mandatory.

The problem, as always, is who makes the decisions! and how they translate the criteria. This was, of course tried in Nazi Germany, along with all their other crap. Would you want G.W Bush appointees making the decisions? I sure as fuck would not! How many judges do you trust that are presently on the bench? I don't trust many. Again I understand the concern and some of the reasoning, but I just think we'd be starting a whole new bunch of problems. Even China is abandoning it's one child laws, the y just don't work. But it's sure something to think about.
Up here, in Canada, they had had mandatory sterilization laws for the "mentally retarded" until sometime in the seventies. Turns out there were a lot of kids in "mental hospitals" for ridiculous reasons having nothing to do with "retardation" like they couldn't find adoptive or foster homes for them and some others. These people are now suing the government with good reason. Many of them have grown up to be productive members of society. This policy also allowed the staff to rape the female inmates with little fear of repercussions because the girls weren't believed and they never got pregnant, which at least would have been some kind of proof.
I still think there has to be another way!

 

Really I was in three gangs growing up, and still running in one when my first child was born. I think I my wife and I had a right to breed and we ended up having four kids that I will put up against anyone else's as far as being intelligent, productive, functional and contributing members of society.

I think I kind of resent your judgmental attitude just a little bit.

And as I said on that thread this in my view is a horrendous idea and completely ignores the fact that you are trying to make all humans the same when they are anything else but.

I've said this before ShakeZula. For someone who does not believe in God you sure don't mind playing one. Who are you or anyone else to decide who can handle having babies or not. I've seen lots of kids born into a stable living environment and financially capable parents who lived a life of hell and turned out to be really rotten adults. These are no guarantees at all that people are fit to be parents.

All you have to do is look at most or our recent mass killers to know that.
