Is the worst ever. Not only because of his shady politics and his general lack of concern for the people he governs. But because he WASN'T EVEN ELECTED!!!!!

You can thank several thousand less-well-educated people in Ohio for that one... ( no disrepect to Ohio people, but it was a very specific group of people there that got targeted, to swing the election. At a cost of some $25 million just spend on direct advertising to them, alone. And the Democrats did the same thing, too.)

Amazing to think 300 million people's lives (not to mention countless millions worldwide) were dictated by a few thousand good ol' boys out there in Ohio...

Not surprisingly, I have to go with Bush, although Buchanan has to be considered a contender, in that his actions/inactions probably led directly to the Civil War.

But I don't think the list is complete enough...there were several presidents in the nineteenth century that didn't amount to much. Nobody even remembers their names. Take Millard Fillmore, for example. Or Chester Arthur. Or Franklin Pierce.

Nevertheless, I think Bush has done more than anyone to undermine the ideals on which the country was founded, and has governed with utter contempt for the people, as if he were a child given the country to play with for a Christmas present.

 

I don't think he was the worst...I think he was too honest and decent to be president...Right now, I'd say Bush, there's no doubt in my mind...

 

First of all, he wasn't elected twice, and arguably, he wasn't elected once.

Second of all, I didn't vote for him either time, so I bear no responsibility.

Carter got a bad rap....he probably had more integrity than anyone who has occupied the Oval Office.

Surprisingly, I think Herbert Hoover also got something of a bad rap, a pretty smart fellow who largely fell victim to forces beyond his control.

 

If your talking solely about presidents who gave the title a bad name then only one name could be on that list: Richard Milhouse Nixon. That guy could have done irreparable damage to the office. Just as well you had someone honest and decent to take over from him when he finally resigned (Ford?).

I was an adolescent around the time of the Watergate scandal and its aftermath, yet I can still remember a lot of the crap that was flying about even all these years later - and I'm not even an American!

I grew up hating Nixon, and with excellent reasons, but at least he had a few redeeming qualities. His problem was his own inner demons. And the fact that he prolonged the Vietnam War. Watergate itself pales in comparison to the things Bush has done.
