    Minor correction.
Trumps 2013 and 2014 taxes were under audit when trump said his taxes were being audited.
Trump wasn't lying about that, was he?

    Question.
How does the IRS audit tax reports when prior year audits haven't been completed?

Has anyone actually asked why the tax years 2016 and on hadn't been audited?

LOL! Thanks for the gutbuster of a laugh. Yeah, let's excuse one big lie in a grab bag full of them.

Besides, audits don't prevent him from releasing his returns. Moot point.

    1. stumbler
Actually I think that is just another lie. I don't remember seeing any proof Trump's taxes were under audit as he claimed.

I watched this happening myself and commented on it many times. I have been at personal war against the lie of conservatism for more than 40 years. Because its just obvious and documented conservatives preach one thing and practice the opposite. But I sat stunned watching conservatives shit on and trow away every value they ever calmed to have just for Trump. There is not a single value they can point to that Trump did not violate while they continued to back everything he did, lie for him, cover up for him, and protect him no matter what he did.

Chris Hayes Claims Republicans ‘Don’t Know What They Believe’ After Ideology ‘Collapsed’ Under Trump
    By Kipp JonesDec 30th, 2022, 10:54 pm
    1080 comments

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes said Republicans no longer have an ideology after it “collapsed” under the weight of former President Donald Trump.

Hayes was discussing how House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy will lead what he said is a fractured party if he receives the votes needed to lead a GOP majority in the House next week.

“I think Republicans’ ideology has collapsed in on itself, and they don’t know what they believe anymore and it makes it harder to oppose stuff,” he said on Friday’s All In. “I think the kind of Paul Ryan-ism – isn’t what the party wants anymore, but they don’t really know what to replace it with.”

Hayes addressed former Democratic congresswoman Donna Edwards and said the party’s identity under Trump is a “kind of series of gestures.”

“It makes it harder to figure out what their actual agenda is,” he said before asking Edwards to respond.

“Well, I think you’re right,” she said. “There’s a lot of noise coming out of the Republican conference. But there isn’t anything that really holds them together. And these days, it’s not even a set of values that holds them together.”

    Edwards added:

I do think it is going to make it really complicated for any speaker, whether it’s going to be Kevin McCarthy or somebody else, I predict someone else, to lead a very fractured caucus, one that you can’t pull together on any range of policy issues. Remember, Paul Ryan governed because he had policy that he believed in and that he was committed to and I just don’t really see that coming out of Kevin McCarthy and coming out of this Republican conference.

'This is supposed to be easy!' Jen Psaki smokes GOP for blowing the absolute basics of governing

On Tuesday's edition of MSNBC's "All In," former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki laid into House Republicans for failing to even do the most basic, easy aspect of their new job as the majority in the lower chamber: choosing the Speaker.

A majority of the caucus is behind longtime GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), but a large group of defectors repeatedly blocked McCarthy from achieving 218 votes — the first time this has happened in a Speaker election since 1923.

"I have to imagine, in the White House and among Democrats in Washington — professional Democrats — there is a bit of, like, see? See? We told you. This is the way these people are," said anchor Chris Hayes.

"Yeah, look," said Psaki. "I think Hakeem Jeffries had it right today when he basically said, they are looking for a partner to solve problems, not to solve the chaos and dysfunction of the Republican Party. And that is kind of what we saw today. And even though it is a small wing of the party, going into today, Kevin McCarthy clearly did not know if he had the votes. He did not have the votes. And this is supposed to be the easy day, right? This is the day when you come back from college and you see old friends and you are buying your books. And you already know who is going to be the Speaker. That is why this has not happened for 100 years."

RELATED: Passage from John Boehner's memoir comes back to haunt Kevin McCarthy

Faced even with this simple, ceremonial task, said Psaki, "they could not get it done."

"So, the Democrats, I think, are being the adults in the room," said Psaki. "They are going to just watch this happen. But what is really crazy and should be a bit alarming here is what happens after this. At some point, there will be a Speaker, right? But what today told me is that this House is not headed toward raising the debt limit. And that is a very disastrous outcome. So, that is what alarmed me."

Nicolle Wallace attacks House GOP holdouts: 'They’re not rebels — they’re coup plotters, insurrectionists, anarchists'

    MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace (screengrab)

Many of the Republican commentators on MSNBC have been talking about the 20 Republicans that are against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) becoming the Speaker of the House by calling them "rebels." But host Nicolle Wallace refused to allow that word to be the one used for many of the far right.

"Let's be a little more blunt than that," Wallace began. "They're not rebels. I'm not going to use that word. They're coup plotters, 19 House Republicans were in the Roosevelt Room, which is four steps away from the Oval Office helping Donald Trump plan overturn the results of the 2016 election, which sent all of them back! Their names were on all the ballots there were trying to destroy and denigrate and smear, and call into question."

She went on to cite some of the worst offenders in the group like Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who is under criminal investigation for child sex trafficking. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), she said, likes to put weapons of war into the hands of children.

"I don't have the full list up but at least a handful of them are under federal criminal scrutiny for their role on Jan. 6th," Wallace continued. "So, they're not rebels, they're coup plotters. They're insurrectionists, and they're anarchists. So, I worry that they're being described as rebels who have a few good policy ideas in terms of governance and if is their will to knock out Kevin McCarthy. I have been covering Kevin McCarthy's lack of that body part called a spine for years. I have no affinity for Kevin McCarthy, but Kevin McCarthy didn't just tolerate Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar. He refused to purge them."

Tim Miller agreed that he too found the word "rebels" to "rub me the wrong way too." But it is all a problem of McCarthy's own making. He could have shut down the GOP members after the Jan. 6 attack and he could have helped keep the anti-Trump incumbents in the House. Instead, he's added members that can't stand him.

Here's how Ronna McDaniel may have directly implicated Trump in a crime: MSNBC's Ari Melber

    Brad Reed
    January 11, 2023

    Ronna McDaniel on Facebook.

MSNBC's Ari Melber on Wednesday outlined how the House Select Committee's final report on the January 6th Capitol riots showed how Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel implicated former President Donald Trump in a crime.

During a review of the committee's report, Melber highlighted McDaniel's description of how Trump roped her into a scheme concocted by attorney John Eastman, the author of the notorious so-called "coup memo" that argued Vice President Mike Pence had the power to singlehandedly reject certified election results.

"What you are about to see clearly, factually, bolsters the legal and criminal case against Trump for the Department of Justice," he said. "As I said, it's not from some critic or outside the room, but a person in the room, on the calls, direct evidence. No hearsay. A MAGA loyalist... Ronna McDaniel, who is chair of the Republican National Committee."

He then played testimony of McDaniel explaining how Trump put her on the phone with Eastman, who encouraged her to use the RNC to help him shore up his "alternate electors" plot that would involve replacing the electors in states won by President Joe Biden with electors beholden to Trump.

"Her description of it under oath refers to Donald Trump's cover story, or what most prosecutors view as a crime, submitting false information, in this case elector material to the government," he said. "It's a type of fraud. It's a crime, illegal. Trump was both orchestrating the call using his power as president to get the RNC chair on the line and making her talk to his lawyer, who he thought he could help keep his secret because of attorney/client privilege and other abuses."

Maddow recaps what we know about New Mexico MAGA Republican accused of orchestrating shootings at Dems' houses

    Sarah K. Burris
    January 16, 2023

A "right-wing radical" and "election denier," is how the Albuquerque mayor described the man who was arrested for allegedly paying four unidentified individuals to fire guns at the houses of elected New Mexico Democrats.

At the top of MSNBC Rachel Maddow's show, the host brought some new details about out Solomon Pena, the MAGA Republican candidate for House District 14 who was captured in a SWAT raid

No one was killed or injured by Pena or the men he hired to help him with the attack.

"So again Dec. 4th at one politician's home, a county commissioner, eight shots fired into his home," Maddow recounted. "A week later, Dec. 11th, 12 bullets fired into the home of another Democratic county commissioner. Then on Jan. 3rd, it was a state representative, a Democratic state representative named Linda Lopez in New Mexico. On January 3rd, shots rang out at her house. Three bullets went through her daughter's bedroom as her 10-year-old daughter was inside that bedroom asleep. So, that's three of them Dec. 4th, Dec. 11th, Jan. 3rd. But all in all, it ended up being six different Democratic officials who appear to have been targeted. Initially two county commissioners, then a state representative, then a state attorney general, and then a state senator."

This could be Jack Smith's secret weapon in making a case against Donald Trump: MSNBC's Ari Melber

    Brad Reed
    January 17, 2023

MSNBC's Ari Melber on Tuesday did a deep dive into the career of special prosecutor Jack Smith, who is currently overseeing two different criminal investigations revolving around former President Donald Trump.

One particular trait highlighted by Melber that he thinks could be beneficial in making a case against the former president is the fact that he appears, for lack of a better word, "boring."

"Smith is careful, sober, I would say dry to the point of, frankly at times, being boring in his presentation," Melber said. "The man clashing with gangsters and war lords cuts a somber figure when you look at his record and how he operates, even when he makes his big arguments in court. There are peers who say he used that underrated style to great effect with juries and judges, meaning it works."

Melber then detailed how Smith combines this "dry and boring" style of presentation with very aggressive prosecutorial techniques that means he will not wilt in the face of pressure.

IN OTHER NEWS: GOP gives George Santos two committee assignments over fear rejecting him would set 'precedent': report

"Smith's not only aggressive in court," he said. "Lawyers are marveling at the way he will push and stretch to make his cases, but he's so aggressive legally that he has sometimes stretched farther than other prosecutors, bringing what are called novel or high-risk cases."

Melber said that this could be a double-edged sword, however, as Smith has lost some of these cases -- including most famously when he pursued charges against former Sen. John Edwards (R-NC).

Chris Hayes Plays Supercuts of Fox Hosts Boosting Durham Investigation – Which It Turns Out Included a Criminal Probe of Trump
    By Alex GriffingJan 26th, 2023, 9:06 pm
    200 comments

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes delighted in reporting on a bombshell report from the New York Times Thursday that revealed Special Counsel John Durham, who was investigating the origins of the Trump-Russia probe, was also conducting a criminal investigation into allegations of financial crimes connected to Donald Trump.

The Times reported Durham, who was appointed by Trump Attorney General Bill Barr, kept in close contact with Barr throughout his investigation, which Trump called for and hoped would exonerate him from the findings of the Mueller report. Instead, according to the Times, not only did Durham find no proof of wrongdoing in the Russia probe, but the investigation turned on Trump.

“Now, what the Durham investigation mostly produced was content for Fox News, whose anchors salivated over every detail convinced that Durham was going to crack the case,” Hayes said, reveling in the fact Durham came up with nothing.

Hayes then played a supercut of Fox News hosts boasting of the Durham investigation.

“Indications are beginning to mount tonight. The Durham may have figured this all out. Mark my words, we will get to the bottom of this. John Durham will uncover the truth. We will get the equal justice that we, you, we, the American people deserve,” says Sean Hannity at one point.

“John Durham came up with a whole lot of nothing,” Hayes said after the supercut ended, adding:

He made two high-profile prosecutions against a cybersecurity lawyer and a research analyst who worked on the so-called Steele dossier. But guess what? Both cases and in swift, humiliating acquittals. This is really rare. Federal prosecutors don’t bring the cases they can’t win. And this guy got his butt handed to him twice in court.

Hayes then went through the New York Times article, breaking down some of the key points.

“This is the best part,” Hayes says after summarizing the article.

“The one useful bit they got came from Italian officials who unexpectedly offered a potentially explosive tip linking Trump to certain suspected financial crimes. Barr had Durham investigate the matter himself, giving him criminal prosecution powers for the first time, even though possible wrongdoing by Trump did not fall squarely within his assignment,” Hayes explained, adding:

And then it gets better, because when that inevitably leaked that Durham was going to be investigating criminal activity. Trumpworld was overjoyed. They thought he had found evidence of criminals in the deep State when the person Durham was really criminally investigating was Donald Trump.

Hayes then plays a supercut of Fox News hosts celebrating the news that Durham was conducting a criminal probe.

“The announcement that US attorney John Durham’s investigation is now a criminal probe has made a lot of folks nervous in this town, and they’re all the same intel and media collaborators who spread the phony collusion narrative from the start,” says Laura

    Ingraham
    at one point.

After the supercut, Hayes concluded, “Okay. Just to be clear, all of that that you saw was 100%, 180 degrees directionally wrong. The only time the Durham investigation moved over to a criminal inquiry was because of a tip about criminal wrongdoing by Donald Trump. And then that got leaked to the public. Who knows how? Oh, Durham’s looking into criminal activity. And then Fox got a lot of content like that to shove on their viewers.”

When I was a kid I thought it was the worst thing possible but it turned out to be one of the best experiences for life skills. We only had one TV channel. And every night they ran ABC News, NBC News, and CBS news one right after the other every night. Which is when Walter Cronkite became one of my heroes. The other two major networks might have a little spin but when Cronkite told you that's the way it is that was the truth.

But back then regardless of the spin the rule was there are always two sides to every story but only one of then can be true. And it was the medias job to look at all sides of a story and make the call. Which one of them is true.

That all changed with Roger Alies and Ronald Reagan. The truth is not our friend. They beat the msm into submission with screaming lies about the "liberal press." Invented Fox News and the right wing false propaganda machine and took out the most important thing Americans had. Reality,

Trump's 'legal hell' methodically tallied by MSNBC's Mika

    Travis Gettys

    MSNBC

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski and CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig struggled to keep track of all the various criminal investigations and lawsuits Donald Trump is facing, and eventually concluded he was in "legal hell."

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office empaneled a grand jury to investigate the hush-money payment scheme involving adult film actress Stormy Daniels, which adds another case to the growing pile of legal troubles involving the former president.

"How many legal actions against Trump ar3e in play right now?" Brzezinski said, pulling out a pen and notepad. "There is the rape allegation, right? What have we got here? We have Georgia. That one is serious, that one could really go somewhere. We've got Jan. 6. Is it one or two investigations surrounding Jan. 6 and the big lie?"

Honig counted those as two separate cases, and he said the Georgia case was related but separate.

READ MORE: Kevin McCarthy's bid to boot Ilhan Omar off committee on the verge of failure: report

"Okay, four," Brzezinski said. "Then the Mar-a-Lago documents, that's five. Anything else? What am I missing?"

The Manhattan case made six, and Honig reminded the "Morning Joe" co-host of the $25 million fraud lawsuit New York attorney general Letitia James had filed against the Trump Organization, which was recently convicted of tax fraud, and then a technical problem in the studio briefly interrupted the tally.

"I'm still here counting," Brzezinski said, brandishing a notepad after the issue was resolved. "I've got Mar-a-Lago, Manhattan D.A., Stormy, rape, Georgia, Jan. 6 -- two angles there. Oh, by the way, just sort of on that one, it seems really serious, the insurrection, like the attack on our Capitol, because many have gone to jail for many years for what they did following Donald Trump's orders, for some, seditious conspiracy has actually stood as a charge, which is historic in itself."

"Taxes -- okay, I'm still counting on the legal battles that he's facing," she added. "Now we're going to add to the fact that he is suing a lot of people, too. This is something to consider when you're thinking about making this guy your nominee. He is in legal hell, drowning in legal battles. He is suing Bob Woodward. Add that to the list of people he is suing. That's a lot of law stuff happening there, Donald, just something to think about."

Joe Scarborough LOSES IT Laughing At Trump Clip: ‘Hard to Grasp The Reality That Man Was Ever President!’
    By Tommy ChristopherFeb 7th, 2023, 10:54 am
    692 comments

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough cackled at a clip of ex-President Donald Trump musing about dogs and exclaimed that it’s hard to believe “that man was ever president!”

According to excerpts, the new book by ex-Trump Defense Dept. chief Christopher Miller reveals that the then-first lady “popped in” to watch the raid that killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and gave advice on how to spin the raid to the press: concentrate on the dog.

On Tuesday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Scarborough played a clip of the then-president following that advice, and just lost it as the words “I call it a dog” caused the reality of Trump’s presidency to wash over him:

TRUMP: Canine, as they call, I call it a dog, a beautiful dog, a talented dog was injured and brought back, but we had no soldier injured and they did a lot of shooting and they did a lot of blasting, even not going through the front door. You know, you would think you go through the door. If you’re a normal person, you say, knock, knock, may I come in?

    MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Oh my god!

JOE SCARBOROUGH: You know, it’s really I must say, it is really hard even a couple of years later, to grasp the reality that that man was ever president of the United States. (LAUGHS) I mean my God, just…

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: I know! I know! Just… Just so many risks.

    JOE SCARBOROUGH: Un-believable!

    MIKA BRZEZINSKI: So many questions.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: I call it a dog! I call it a dog! Go through the front door! Just like normal people just walk through the… (LAUGHS AND HOOTS)

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Remember the bleach? I mean, it’s just, it, there are so many incredulous moments.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Unbelievable. Unbelievable but there it is. And really, we’re finding out that the Situation room Melania just wandered in, started giving advice about dogs.
