I can't say I am surprised Jen Psaki would be able to pull of a great show. I have said many times when it comes to being a White House press Secretary Psaki was the best I've ever seen. And I mean there was no one even close to her. And maybe I shouldn't have been surprised she would carry her press briefing style into her show. But I do have to admit I am surprised at what a star refreshing and effective that is. It feels like an entirely different experience.

Jim Jordan's dream of running interference for Donald Trump crushed by Jen Psaki

On Sunday morning, former White House press secretary Jen Psaki served notice to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) that he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on as he tries to keep Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg from investigating Donald Trump.

On her MSNBC show, the newly minted host explained that Republicans in the House who are trying to drag Bragg before them so they can grill him and try to pry information will fail.

"I'm not freaking out about what [House Speaker] Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) or Jim Jordan are up to because I'm not sure they really thought all of this through," the smiling Psaki began. "For one, these Republicans have gone out on a limb -- way out, way out on a limb. To start with they are defending Trump before they even know what charges he might face."

"From a legal perspective, experts point out that Jim Jordan and his colleagues are overestimating their power including my guest [former AG Eric Holder] I just had on, the former attorney general of the United States. The former counsel to the House Judiciary Committee also pointed out this week that Congress cannot lawfully use its investigative power to engage in law enforcement. Even if they resorted to a subpoena, he also wrote, any such subpoenas should be unenforceable."

ALSO IN THE NEWS: GOPer forced to scramble after being reminded Jim Jordan ignored his Jan. 6 subpoena

Psaki then took aim at Jordan's "weaponization" hearings that flopped, mocking him for making big promises about "whistleblowers" and then coming up empty-handed.

"It turned out they weren't really whistleblowers at all," she explained. "In fact, they weren't even credible witnesses. That was according to a Democratic report which revealed that none of those witnesses provided anything of substance. Instead, they endorsed conspiracy theories related to January 6th, the efficacy of Covid vaccines and the outcome of the 2020 election."

"If all that wasn't bad enough, the report also exposed how the witnesses were basically bought and paid for by former Trump officials -- you can't make it up sometimes," she wryly added. "Again, when it comes to these attacks on Alvin Bragg, House Republicans are not only on pretty shaky legal ground, they also haven't shown themselves to be the most competent of investigators. There is no Sherlock Holmes in the group here that we can see."

At this point the Manhattan indictments and the other criminal investigations and civil suits Trump is facing are more like amusing child's play compared to Jack Smith's stolen classified documents and insurrection investigations. Those are very serious crimes that carry very serious time in prison. And Smith is breathing down Trump's neck and he knows it.

But in the meantime its clear Trump's crimes are finally catching up with him and reaching critical mass. That is one of the problems with Bill Barr and the DOJ along with treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans protecting Trump, lying for him and covering up for him. Trump's crimes are real. And the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans managed to stall and delay Trump being held accountable for them. But all that did was keep pushing them back until they can't protect him anymore and now will fall like an avalanche.

Maddow details all of the terrible things that are about to hit Trump in the coming weeks

April will not be a good month for Donald Trump, as several court appearances and procedures for many of the former president’s other legal troubles are scheduled this month.

"While he's campaigning!" Joy Reid noted Tuesday night during a panel discussion with Rachel Maddow and other MSNBC hosts.

"Think about that fact. If he has a hearing in December. What if the first hearing is in January? When is Iowa and New Hampshire? Is it around then? Is he going to be flying back and forth between Des Moines and New York City to do … how does he keep his image of Teflon Don going while he is having to be like, 'I will let you finish with this campaign thing, but I need to fly to New York for this hearing in this case that I'm in.'"

"I mean, next week's got the deposition in the quarter billion dollar civil fraud case that Letitia James has brought against him," said Maddow. "That is next week. After that is the Fox News Dominion trials — which is going to be a week's worth of testimony about how all the most famous right-wingers in the country think that he is a dork."

ALSO IN THE NEWS: 'Ask God for the money': Sarah 'Huckster' Sanders blasted for hypocrisy

"Demonic!" MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace cut in, citing text messages and emails from Fox hosts behind the scenes.

"And a week after that is the E. Jean Carroll trial, in which he is accused of both rape and defamation," Maddow added.

Alex Wagner pointed out that there is also the matter of Fani Willis’ case in Georgia.

    We see where a rumor Shooter reported last week is actually true;
Stormy Daniels is contributing to Trump's legal defense!

Stormy Daniels must pay $122,000 in Trump legal bills (msn.com)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Stormy Daniels must pay nearly $122,000 of Donald Trump's legal fees that were racked up in connection with the porn actor's failed defamation lawsuit, an appeals court ruled Tuesday.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, alleges she had an affair with Trump in 2006 and was paid $130,000 as part of a nondisclosure agreement days before the 2016 presidential election.

She sued him for defamation after he dismissed her claims of being threatened to keep quiet about the tryst as a “total con job.” A judge threw out the case in 2018.

On Tuesday, a commissioner for the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Trump's attorneys “reasonably spent” more than 183 hours on an appeal of the case but denied a request for another $5,150 in other fees because it wasn't itemized.

In all, Daniels has been ordered to pay more than $600,000 in Trump’s legal fees, tweeted Harmeet Dillon, one of his attorneys in the case.

That includes some $300,000 in attorney's fees that Daniels previously was ordered to pay.

After a federal appeals court upheld that award last year, Daniels stated: “I will go to jail before I pay a penny.”

Messages seeking comment from her attorney, Oklahoma lawyer Clark Brewster, weren't immediately returned after hours Tuesday.
OK. Full disclosure. Shooter was making a funny when he said Daniels was rumored to be ready to contribute to Trump's legal defense fund.
    And then this story surfaces.
Sometimes, you just gotta shake your head and wonder who writes this stuff.
Shooter knows the river Gods have a vicious sense of humor. If you want it to rain on your trip, leave your tent at home and see what happens.
If you want a good laugh at the folly of politicians and the pundits, make a joke about a hooker paying off a politician.
Screwing you get for screwing you got is how Shooter would label this story now.

If you haven't seen it yet check out the video of Sen Lindsey Graham crying and blubbering like an old woman while begging for donations for Trump. It is both just funny as fuck and then sick and disgusting at the same time. It it the epitome of what a Traitor Trump Cult Follower looks like.

Lawrence O’Donnell Goes In on Lindsey Graham’s Crocodile Tears for Trump: ‘Never Cried for a Child Murdered in a Classroom’ (Video)

“The Last Word” host Lawrence O’Donnell aired an eight-minute takedown of South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Wednesday night, deriding him for shedding tears for former President Donald Trump but not children killed in school shootings.

“Lindsey Graham has never cried for a single child who has been murdered in a classroom in America. Not one,” O’Donnell said, naming the three children and three adults who were killed in the school shooting in Nashville just last week.

“Lindsey Graham did not shed a single tear for any one of those victims of America’s latest mass murderer who used an AR-15 to fire 152 bullets in that school,” the host continued. “After that mass murder, Lindsey Graham proudly told reporters in Washington that he owns an AR-15. He didn’t say why.

O’Donnell’s takedown began as a response to Graham’s viral moment this week where, seemingly on the brink of tears, he begged Trump supporters to donate to the campaign to help with the former president’s legal expenses.

“You need to help this man Donald J. Trump, they’re trying to drain him dry,” Graham said on Fox News March 30. “He spent more money on lawyers than most people spend on campaigns. They’re trying to bleed him dry. donaldjtrump.com. Go tonight, give the president some money to fight this bulls–t.”

This, O’Donnell pointed out, all in support of a politician who ran a 2016 presidential campaign on the idea that he didn’t rely on donors at all.

“I don’t need anybody’s money,” Trump said at the time. “I’m using my own money. I’m not using the lobbyist I’m not using donors, I don’t care.

“That was a foundational line of the Trump political career,” O’Donnell said. “Trump claimed to be ‘so rich’ that he would never need any contributions at all and therefore he would be incorruptible. And now Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in history, and he has taken more money out of the pockets of his supporters than any other president in history. That’s the person Lindsey Graham is crying for now.

The rest of the segment continues to list various hypocrisies in where and when Graham seems to invest his emotions, drawing comparisons to his support of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh vs. the women harmed by the ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, and more.

'Such An Idiot': Nicolle Wallace Bursts Out Laughing Over Trump Comment On Fox News

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace laughed in disbelief after showing viewers an excerpt from Donald Trump’s recent interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson in which the former president lauded authoritarian leaders as “top of the line.”

“You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep, or in the case of the twice-impeached, disgraced, now-indicted ex-president, the people they praise loudly on Fox News,” Wallace said Wednesday.

She showed viewers a clip from Trump’s Fox News interview, which aired Tuesday. “They’re all top of the line,” Trump said of Chinese President Xi Jinping, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Our guy’s not top of the line ― never was,” he added, referring to President Joe Biden.

Trump also called Xi a “brilliant man” and praised Kim and Putin as “very smart.”

Hooting with laughter, Wallace said: “I don’t even know where to start. No one called you top of the line. Ever!”

The MSNBC host noted that she typically avoids amplifying Trump or Fox News, but said that this rhetoric provided important context on the recent Republican-led efforts to strip back abortion rights, implement voter suppression laws and silence dissent in the Tennessee state legislature.

“It’s important to understand they’re not bodily functions. They’re not burping out random policies. They’re following their leader, who’s following the world’s most heinous authoritarians,” Wallace said. “And we showed you that to show you just how dangerous his rhetoric is.”

“He’s such an idiot, on top of all else,” she later added. “And he sounds like such a bleepin’ idiot.”

Lawrence O’Donnell: 'Too Stupid' Fox News Could've Saved $787 Million With Just 3 Words

    810
    Lee Moran
Thu, April 20, 2023 at 12:58 AM MDT

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell on Wednesday suggested three words could have saved Fox News from paying out $787.5 million in the defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems.

Had Fox hosts said “if that’s true” after hearing baseless claims that Dominion’s voting machines somehow rigged the election against former President Donald Trump, then “The Last Word” anchor said the conservative network wouldn’t have been sued and then had to settle for the massive amount as it headed to trial.

“The stupidity in the executive offices at Fox and at the anchor desks led to this outcome, which was completely avoidable,” he explained. “Someone at Fox could have said to the people hosting their shows, ’You can let [former Trump attorney] Rudy Giuliani tell any lie he wants for as long as he wants and at the end of it, all you have to say is, ‘If that’s true … this is a terrible situation and we’re going to have to do something about it.’”

Fox “never could have been sued because the host would have said, ‘if that’s true,’” O’Donnell continued. “Those are the legal safe words that save you $787 million, and everyone working at Fox was too stupid to know those legal safe words.”

“Rupert Murdoch was too stupid to tell his people to use those legal safe words,” he added. “And so Fox lost and truth won.”

Treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans are losing big on abortion so they try to create the lie that progressive/liberal/Democrats are supporting women aborting their babies at the moment of birth. And right now that's all they've got since the vast majority of Americans support abortion rights which is why Graham freaked out when he got fact checked on it.

Morning Joe rips '67-year-old bachelor' Lindsey Graham for getting worked up over abortion rights

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough called out Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Monday for letting his emotions get the best of him during a conversation about abortion rights.

The South Carolina Republican lost his temper Sunday with CNN's Dana Bash after she corrected him over a claim he made about late-term abortions, and the "Morning Joe" host wondered why Graham was so personally invested in laws regarding women's health.

"It's fascinating how much, how angry and incensed a 67-year-old bachelor with no children gets over the health care of women, young women, teenagers, sometimes tragically 10-year-old, 11-year-old rape victims," Scarborough said. "It's really something, how, again, a 67-year-old bachelor with no children suddenly is so incensed about how a 14-year-old girl and her family handles her being raped by an uncle, if we want to use the example that the Republican candidate in Michigan used as the great reason, why we have to have forced births of rape victims' children."

"It's crazy, by the way, Donald Trump -- there's some somersaults going on there," he added, pointing out that the former president blamed the overturning of Roe v. Wade for the GOP's midterm flop. "Here's a guy, 'I'm the biggest champion,' yet, this is a guy who was screaming when he found out they were going to overturn Roe v. Wade, he said it was going to be a political nightmare, said it was going to be a political nightmare. He blamed pro-life voters for the [Republican] losses in 2022 interesting, some somersaults going on there, as usual."

2003 was before the dobbs decision wasn't it?
The dobbs decision said abortion is a state issue, didn't it?
Federal laws controlling abortions don't control since Dobbs, do they?

    Nice try.
    Fail.

The National Firearms Act of 1934 outlawed the sale of machine guns to private citizens. In 2008 the Supreme Court ruled the second amendment applies to private gun ownership.

So can states now pass laws legalizing the sale of machine guns in gun stores?

      And if not why not?

This was actually a really interesting segment. Rachel Maddow went clear back to the 30's to show far right wing radio and then later TV hosts that were incredibly successful until they weren't and got shut down just like Tucker Carlson. And it was interesting because I never knew Roger Ailes once put Rush Limbaugh on TV but he crashed and burned before Fox News was invented. And then of course there was Glenn Beck as a major Fox star before Fox shit canned him. And then the star of stars at the time Bill O'Reilly who also got fired. So Carlson is like actually just one more in a long sleazy line of treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans who made their claims to fame pushing fear, hate, anger, racism, and bigotry.

Maddow: Far-right media has never convinced Americans that conservatives are good

    Sarah K. Burris
    April 24, 2023

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow (Photo: Screen capture)

On Monday night, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow looked at a series of right-wing radio and television personalities — from Father Charles Coughlin all the way to Tucker Carlson. She urged viewers to look at the group as a whole and their impact on history.

"What you see over, and over, and over again, and I don't know why this hasn't sunk in and become a thing we make fun of these guys for — it becomes quite clear dominance inside far-right media doesn't turn into dominance anywhere else," said Maddow.

Coughlin was someone Maddow discussed in her award-winning podcast Ultra, which is now on track to be an actual documentary. He was able to pull in 30 million-person audiences to his radio show. But when he launched a presidential campaign for Republican William Lemke, all Coughlin could get was 2 percent for the lawmaker.

She moved on to Rush Limbaugh, who was a huge voice for conservatives on the radio. But when they tried to give him a television show, no one watched. Even ESPN offered him a sports commentary gig, but that didn't work either, and he was relegated back to the AM radio slots.

Glenn Beck was next, with his tears and chalkboards crafting conspiracy theories about former President Barack Obama on CNN. He was a darling to the Tea Party and brought together thousands to worship him at a Washington, D.C. revival. Liberals didn't like him and launched boycotts against advertisers that gave Beck money. He became so toxic to advertisers that the network lost money.

Bill O'Reilly followed, with his angry screaming into the cameras and wagging of his finger. After a number of sexual harassment lawsuits that cost the network a combined $13 million, advertisers also pulled away. O'Reilly was out.

Then came Tucker Carlson, who was ousted with about 10-minutes' notice after promising his viewers he'd see them on Monday night.

None of these far-right media personalities have managed to do much in the long term. Even with the help of several Fox hosts, Donald Trump still couldn't get reelected in 2020.

"You know, in the '80s and '90s, they'll never compete with Coughlin, and the broadcasters huge in the '80s and '90s they'll never compete with Coughlin. And the broadcasters in the '80s and '90s were more dominant in their time than any of the flavors of the month broadcasters are dominant now," Maddow continued. "So, we have a dominant figure, almost always there's someone dominating, but the magnitude of their dominance, their overall importance to the media, right-wing media ecosystem shrinks as right-wing media over time diversifies and becomes a lot of different things and something that exists on a lot of different platforms. So, they'll never be somebody as big as the biggest guys of the past were."

"You can fill Chicago on a Labor Day weekend in 1936 with your sweaty fervent screaming supporters, but you can't get your candidate William Lemke to 2 percent in the polls on election day," she continued. "A few weeks later, you don't get your pet candidate Lemke elected to anything. You don't get to call football games on TV for the NFL. You don't lead a hundred-year-long messianic religious revival. You don't persuade Americans to start tanning their testicles en masse."

While success in conservative media is lucrative, it doesn't translate into success anywhere else.

She pointed to the importance of understanding the power of conservative media and that their only power only exists within that ecosystem.

"And conservative media and the conservative movement tend to drag the actual Republican Party around like a rag doll that's missing a limb or two,' Maddow explained. "I mean, the Republican Party is comparatively very weak, very disorganized, and has no idea how to talk to people. The Republican Party has lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections. I mean, look at the headlines and the other news from the right now. News that's not about the conservative media, news that's about the Republican Party. Keep in mind we are a democracy, and your success as a political party depends on people liking your ideas and voting for them. Look at what they're running on right now. Look at what they're doing in governance and think about the popularity of these things with the average American look at the headlines right now."

She pointed to the GOP legalizing child labor and making it acceptable to make it legal for conditions the children work under to remain as dangerous as is financially expedient for the company. Republicans in Missouri want to shut down all public libraries. Others are trying to kill health insurance, and more want to make it legal for predatory lenders to trick students into loans. Republicans are blocking rape victims from getting the abortion pill after being raped.

"I'm sure Republicans all over the country, not only banning abortion, which is radically unpopular in this country but now in multiple states they are changing the rules of how laws can be made in those states so the people who live in those states will no longer be able to vote for abortion rights even if that's what they want," Maddow explained. "I mean, look at it in terms of their high-dollar candidates the guy polling second for the Republican nomination for president right now is hoping to coast to the White House on the popularity of him just signing a total ban on abortion and also instituting book bans and attacking Disney. What, no puppies to kick?"

Meanwhile, Donald Trump is the leading candidate facing 34 felonies in one case, possible indictment in Georgia and a civil suit beginning on Tuesday.

MSNBC’s Joy Reid Twists the Knife, Notes Tucker Carlson Has Been Canned by All Three Major Cable News Networks: ‘Yes, He Used To Work Here’
    By Michael LucianoApr 24th, 2023, 8:54 pm

Fox News executives put the dagger in Tucker Carlson’s tenure at the network on Monday morning. Later that night, MSNBC’s Joy Reid decided to give it a twist.

Fox announced on Monday it parted ways with the top-rated cable news host, though sources say he was fired. Carlson’s exit came less than a week after Fox settled a lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems, which Carlson and other hosts and guests suggested helped rig the 2020 presidential election. Dominion initially sought $1.6 billion, but agreed to take Fox’s offer of $787.5 million.

A separate lawsuit by a former producer for Tucker Carlson Tonight alleges Fox News tolerated a culture of sexual harassment in the workplace. Fox denies the allegations.

    Carlson’s termination was effective immediately.

Reid addressed the matter on The ReidOut.
“No grand sendoff for Tuckums,” she said. “No final show for him to sign off with his viewers. It’s almost hard to believe that just months ago, Tucker wielded so much power, Kevin McCarthy traded him 40,000 hours of exclusive January 6th footage in his hostage deal to become speaker.”

She went on to note that Carlson has been let go by all three major cable news networks.

“Tucker has officially achieved something that I don’t think anyone else in our industry can claim – being let go by all three major cable networks,” Reid added. “MSNBC – yes, he used to work here; CNN – after Jon Stewart humiliated him live on air, and now Fox.”

As she spoke, a graphic appeared on screen with headlines announcing each departure.

She went on the say Carlson “arguably has done more on cable television to spread the gospel hate, fear, and paranoia than anyone since radio propagandist Father Coughlin in the Nazi era of the 1930s.”

MSNBC picking up Jen Psaki is looking like a really good call. I've always liked her and hoped Psaki would do good. But she is surpassing my expectations. And its because she has a broader range than most hosts. She can go from in your face passionate to all but disappearing and letting the story tell itself. And so far at least they run her show at 12 EDT and then re-run it again right now. That gets her a lot of coverage.

Jen Psaki Goes OFF on Tucker Carlson — But Says Don’t Give Fox ‘Profiles In Courage Award’ For Firing Him
    By Tommy ChristopherApr 30th, 2023, 4:21 pm

MSNBC host and former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki celebrated the firing of Tucker Carlson, but tore into Fox News by suggesting Carlson’s “conspiracies, lies, his explicit white nationalist views” are “simply who they are.”

On Sunday’s edition of MSNBC’s Inside With Jen Psaki, Psaki teased her commentary by noting the firing and adding “But don’t give the Murdochs a Profiles in Courage award just yet.”

Later in the show, Psaki laid out the “ample” grounds Fox News has had in the past to fire Carlson, and argued his departure won’t eradicate “his ideas, the conspiracies, the lies, his explicit white nationalist views” from Fox:

JEN PSAKI: The announcement that Fox News had abruptly fired Tucker Carlson caught many by surprise, including Tucker Carlson, and it ignited a flurry of reporting about why exactly the conservative cable network parted with its top-rated host.

Was it because of highly offensive and crude messages discovered by the board of directors? Maybe. Like reportedly calling a female executive the C-word? You know, the one. Was it due to the workplace harassment lawsuit filed by a former producer, or was it simply that Rupert Murdoch decided Carlson was more trouble than he was worth?

For now, it’s not entirely clear. But what we do know is that for years, Fox News seemed to have an ample, ample reasons, many of them, to oust Carlson and did nothing. Take, for instance, this anti-immigrant screed in 2018.

TUCKER CARLSON (VIDEO CLIP): We have a moral obligation to admit the world’s poor, they tell us, even if it makes our own country poorer and dirtier and more divided.

JEN PSAKI: Charming. Then there was Carlson’s outrageous January 6th conspiracy theories, like this one saying it was all an inside job.

TUCKER CARLSON (VIDEO CLIP): The government knows who they are, but the government has not charged them. Why is that? You know why. They were almost certainly working for the FBI. So FBI operatives were organizing the attack on the Capitol.

JEN PSAKI: Obviously crazy. And, of course, there was his obsessive promotion of the White House national– White nationalist replacement theory.

TUCKER CARLSON (VIDEO CLIP): An unrelenting stream of immigration. But why? Well, Joe Biden just said it. To change the racial mix of the country. That’s the reason, to reduce the political power of people whose ancestors lived here and dramatically increased the proportion of Americans newly arrived from the Third World.

JEN PSAKI: Throughout it all, Fox backed Tucker. When asked in 2021 to comment on Carlson’s long record of lies and bigotry, and you just heard a lot of them there. Fox News plainly said “We fully support him.”

And for years they did. But if you think Tucker’s firing means Fox has seen the light? Don’t hold your breath. Don’t judge them on why they fired Carlson. Judge them for all the times they didn’t and judge them for what they’re still putting on the air this week. Since his exit on Monday, it’s been business as usual for their primetime lineup. Here’s Laura Ingraham on Thursday.

LAURA INGRAHAM (VIDEO CLIP): American citizens see that Biden’s team isn’t focused on raising their standard of living. Instead, the Biden team is focused on remaking the country where illegal immigrant DREAMers are valued over native born Americans.

JEN PSAKI: Sounds pretty familiar, right? Fox News may have had a problem with Tucker himself, but his ideas, the conspiracies, the lies, his explicit white nationalist views were never the total problem for the network. They endorsed all of that and continue to do so. This is simply who they are.

Jen Psaki Says Laura Ingraham Carries the Torch of Fox News’ ‘Explicit White Nationalist Views’ After Tucker Carlson (Video)

On Sunday’s “Inside With Jen Psaki,” MSNBC host and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki took a moment to reflect on the week over at Fox News — particularly in its surprising and unceremonious firing of Tucker Carlson.

But while there continues to be speculation over what Rupert Murdoch’s decision came down to, it’s clear that Carlson’s absence hasn’t changed much of the problematic sentiment espoused on the network daily. Psaki argued that “explicit white nationalist views were never the total problem for the network” and that under Carlson, they even “endorsed all of that.” Now instead, hosts like Laura Ingraham are continuing to push that messaging.

“This is simply who they are,” Psaki said of Fox News.

“The announcement that Fox News had abruptly fired Tucker Carlson caught many by surprise — including Tucker Carlson. And it ignited a flurry of reporting about why, exactly, the conservative cable network parted with its top-rated host,” Psaki began in Sunday’s “Inside” segment. “Was it because of highly offensive and crude messages discovered by the board of directors? Maybe. Like reportedly calling a female executive the c-word? (You know the one.) Was it due to the workplace harassment lawsuit filed by a former producer? Or was it simply that Rupert Murdoch decided that Carlson was more trouble than he was worth? For now, it’s not entirely clear. But what we do know is that for years, Fox News seemed to have ample reasons, many of them, to oust Carlson — and did nothing.”

The host then pulled up several clips of Carlson between 2018 and today to show just where his rhetoric feel, such as a 2018 anti-immigration argument in which he said immigrants make “our own country poorer and dirtier and more divided.”

    “Charming,” Psaki responded.

A second clip showed Carlson peddling conspiracy theories on the Jan. 6 insurrection on the Capitol, claiming it was an “inside job.” “FBI operatives were organizing the attack on the Capitol,” Carlson argued, to which Psaki responded, “Obviously crazy.”

Or, Psaki added, there was his “obsessive promotion of the white nationalist replacement theory.” She pulled up a clip to match.

“Throughout it all, Fox backed Tucker. When asked in 2021 to comment on Carlson’s long record of lies and bigotry, Fox News plainly said, ‘We fully support him,'” Psaki said. “And for years, they did. But if you think Tucker’s firing means Fox has seen the light, don’t hold your breath. Don’t judge them on why they fired Carlson, judge them for all the times they didn’t. And judge them for what they’re still putting on the air this week. Since his exit on Monday, it’s been business as usual for their primetime lineup.”

That’s when Psaki pulled up a clip of Ingraham last week claiming that “illegal immigrant dreamers are valued over native-born Americans,” echoing Carlson’s fears of so-called replacement theory.

“Sounds pretty familiar, right?” Psaki said. “Fox News may have had a problem with Tucker himself, but his ideas, the conspiracies, the lies, his explicit white nationalist views, were never the total problem for the network. They endorsed all of that, and continue to do so. This is simply who they are.”

Maddow: Conservatives who pushed 'Kill the Gays' bill in Uganda are back at it again in Africa — and the United States

    Sarah K. Burris
    May 01, 2023

On Monday, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow recalled a 2009 story about Republican lawmakers who went to Uganda, pretending to be experts in sexual orientation. At the time, they encouraged the country to have zero tolerance for homosexuality in their country and said it was what was a problem in the United States.

So, Uganda drafted what became known as the "Kill the Gays" bill, which would require all homosexual people to be hanged. The backlash was so huge that the Republicans claimed that they had nothing to do with that and that they would never have suggested something so extreme.

But Maddow recalled speaking to those on the ground in Uganda who made it clear that those Republicans and conservatives were the ones that inspired the "Kill the Gays" bill.

Now, that policy is mainstream in the GOP in the United States, she explained with a slew of headlines splashed on the screen. And a conservative Arizona group is pushing the same law again.

"For all of the damage they managed to do in Uganda, here at home, they really were the fringiest of the fringe," she said. "Homosexuals are on a mission to steal your children, and we have to make it illegal! That was way out there in 2009, even for far-right politicians supportive of those evangelical groups. Now that same message that gay people are out to get you, gay people, trans people and drag queens are on a mission to steal your children and undermine society. We have to make it illegal. That's kind of the Republican platform. They could agree on nothing else in 2023 but that. What was fringe in 2009 is now mainstream Republican politics in 2023. And when our domestic far right is even more unleashed like that at home, guess what the implications are for that around the world? The 'Kill the Gays' law is back. And it is more insane now. And yes, right-wing Americans are helping with it again."

Maddow interviewed one of the LGBTQ activists from Uganda about the new effort by the country to put homosexuals in prison for life, while others will still be put to death.

"Just a few weeks ago, the parliament in Uganda passed what amounts to a new 'Kill the Gays' bill to impose the death penalty for certain offenses, life in prison for anybody who has gay sex, makes it illegal to advocate for the rights of LGBTQIA people," Maddow explained. That "would carry a prison sentence of 20 years as a penalty."

Already LGBTQ people are fleeing to Kenya — which is only marginally better than Uganda. But at least they won't be killed there.

An Arizona organization named Family Watch International, which is also behind the anti-gay teacher bills similar to Gov. Ron DeSantis' "Don't Say Gay" bill, sought an Arizona law that would ban teachers from helping a scared student looking for someone to talk to. Not only would teachers lose their license and their jobs, but the parents could sue the teacher personally.

That same group is pushing various African countries to fight back against LGBTQ equality and to pass bills like Uganda first did.

See Maddow's interview with the activist below or at the link here.

This is actually pretty funny. The Disney lawyers are actually quoting DeSantis' own book to prove he deliberately singled out Disney for political retaliation for objecting to his don't say gay bill.

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace roasted Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) for giving Disney ammunition in the form of his own memoir to use against him in federal court.

Disney is suing DeSantis for a First Amendment violation, claiming Florida took away the company’s ability to self-govern because Disney spoke out against the state’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Wallace addressed the Disney matter on Tuesday’s Deadline: White House:

Today Disney’s lawyers are getting help making their case from a very unlikely person and that is Ron DeSantis. More specifically, his recently published memoir in which he routinely flaunts the idea of a political retaliation campaign — that he thought of all by himself — against Disney. So much so, that the actual lawsuit actually cites pages from his book.

“You know what I’m thinking,” Wallace told her panel. “How dumb are they?” referring to DeSantis.

Wallace went on to explain that Disney opposed Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law that took effect in July 2022, and which prohibits talk of sexual orientation or gender identity in grades one through three. The law allows only “age-appropriate” discussions for higher grades.

According to The Washington Post, “DeSantis’s book brags about his rapid mobilization of the state legislature to target Disney’s tax district. The same passage declares that this happened because of the company’s ‘support of indoctrinating young schoolchildren in woke gender identity politics.”

The Bulwark’s Charlie Sykes called this “a quagmire for DeSantis,” who won’t want to compromise because he’s proving he’s a “fighter” and an “anti-woke bully.”

“This is going to play out very differently in a federal court than it does on Twitter, however,” Sykes said of the governor’s tactics.

Legal war begins: DeSantis' board countersues Disney (floridapolitics.com)
'These agreements reek of a backroom deal,' the tourism board says in a new lawsuit.
For decades, Disney exerted its influence to gain total control over its private government and received special treatment no other Florida businesses got, the state-run Central Florida Tourism Board argues in a lawsuit seeking to regain control of Disney World’s special government district.

The state-run board countersued Disney in Orange Circuit Court following Disney’s decision to file a federal lawsuit against them and Gov. Ron DeSantis last week.

The state-appointed tourism board wants the courts to declare agreements made between Disney and outgoing Disney-picked board invalid. The agreements limited the incoming state-run board’s control of Disney World’s special district.

“In an effort to stymie Florida’s elected representatives, Disney covertly cobbled together a series of eleventh hour deals with its soon-to-be-replaced puppet government. Disney hoped to tie the hands of the new, independent Board and to preserve Disney’s special status as its own government in the District for at least the next thirty years,” the tourism board’s lawsuit said.

“These agreements reek of a backroom deal — drafted by Disney with the acquiescence (of) a lawyer who represented both Disney and the District, set for hearing without proper notice, and hustled through a compliant Disney-controlled Board that Disney knew would not dwell long on the issue. But perhaps out of haste or arrogance, Disney’s deals violate basic principles of Florida constitutional, statutory, and common law. As a result, they are null and void — not even worth the paper they were printed on.”

Disney World representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday afternoon.

Hours earlier at a special meeting Monday morning, tourism board members warned they were planning to countersue Disney.

Meanwhile, Disney has accused DeSantis of retaliation for the company exercising its freedom of speech when the company spoke against the state’s Parental Rights in Education measure, known by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” law.

“Disney regrets that it has come to this. But having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the Company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials,” Disney said in the federal lawsuit filed in Tallahassee last week.
