Earmarks (or riders) have always been both corrupt and abused. They amount to a bribe for votes. Its a deal. You vote for this bill and we will include some money for projects in your district you can brag about back home. Both earmarks and congressional stock trading needs to be banned.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats wanted to bring earmarks back and no matter what treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans say they supported it and it got passed with bipartisan support.

Republicans flock to earmarking as new rules take effect
New requesters include members of House Freedom Caucus
    https://rollcall.com/2023/04/19/republicans-flock-to-earmarking-as-new-rules-take-effect/

And just look at what we have going on here. Members that screamed their heads off about earmarks in the past are suddenly praising them if the pork is being brought back to their state and it might help their treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican representative re-elected.

If something can't pass on it's own merits then it should be voted down on it's own. How many bills have been voted down, not because of the main bill, but because of riders? How many bills were intentionally "poisoned" because a rider was just too bad to allow to pass?

One of the most infamous was "The Bridge To Nowhere" in Alaska sponsored by Republican Senator Todd Stevens at $223 million. Now I am not sure that should be the symbol of the most egregious. earmark but once the media started reporting on it and VP candidate Sarah Palin was for it before she was against it The Bridge To Nowhere caught on.

But you make the best point. The Constitution gives the House of Representatives the "power of the purse." Which means it does not matter what the president or anyone else wants if the House refuses to fund it tough shit you can't have it. And that is true for everything from roads and bridges to war. But the other side of that coin is its taxpayer money and every penny of it is not only supposed to be accounted for but justified. On the floor of Congress.

In the modern age though that has become just to embarrassing so Congress has come up with about a million ways to spend money but not through bills that would require them to stand on the floor and justify it.

Just like right now. Treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans are threatening to make the US default on the debt they and Trump racked up. They are demanding spending cuts. Ok fine where is your budget specially saying what needs to be cut? Fuck that if we started naming what has to be cut people wooed get pissed off at us

So its just a phony lying game. If a Republican is president its just roll those presses, print that money. Money does grow on trees. That's where we get the paper to write our IOU's on. And then when a Democrat comes in start screaming about the deficit and the debt.

But none of them in either party are willing to obey the Constitution and go on the record this is what we are spending and WHY.

This is a small part of a vastly larger problem. But shooter wants to play politics!

Also, we weren't even talking about money or appropriations, why don't you start a new thread if we're not talking about those things so near and dear to your space alien heart, if you have such a thing.

Lauren Boebert files for divorce from husband of nearly two decades: report

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) reportedly filed for divorce from her husband after nearly 20 years.

Boebert, who has stated that she believes "that strong families are the foundation of American society," announced the divorce filing in a written statement, according to The Colorado Sun's reporting.

Lauren and her husband, named Jayson Boebert, have been married for almost two decades and share four sons, according to The Colorado Sun's article on Tuesday.

“It is with a heavy weight on my heart that I have filed for divorce from my husband. I am grateful for our years of marriage together and for our beautiful children, all of whom deserve privacy and love as we work through this process,” the congresswoman said in a written statement, according to the report. “I’ve always been faithful in my marriage, and I believe strongly in marriage, which makes this announcement that much more difficult.”

The representative reportedly added: “This is truly about irreconcilable differences. I do not intend to discuss this matter any further in public out of respect for our children, and will continue to work hard to represent the people of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.”

While Boebert didn't include any details about the nature of the irreconcilable differences, there has certainly been controversy, according to the report:

"Jayson Boebert pleaded guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure after allegedly exposing himself to two girls at a bowling alley in January 2004. In her book, Boebert wrote that Jayson never displayed his genitals, but that he 'acted like he was going to unzip his pants,'" the news outlet reported. "Boebert wrote that Jayson 'needed the alcohol and anger management classes that came with the plea deal' in the indecent exposure case."

Last month, it was reported that Boebert would face primary challenge from a Republican who thinks she is "puerile" and "not terribly informed."

This was a surprise to Boebert's husband. When the server showed up to give him the paperwork he told him to get off his property or he would call the sheriff. When he told him he had divorce papers to serve him he let lose a stream of profanity and threatened him. The server said he would just leave the paperwork on his porch and Boebert went back in the house and turned his dog loose on him.

A former TV news anchor pulled off a political shocker Tuesday night in Florida by beating out a candidate that was supported by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Donna Deegan upset Republican business leader Daniel Davis to become the first woman ever and just the second Democrat in three decades to win a Jackso0.nville mayor’s race, CNN, The Tributary, and others are reporting.

The former First Coast News anchor and founder of the DONNA Foundation, a nonprofit that supports families affected by breast cancer, reportedly upset Davis despite being vastly outspent.

Davis had raised $8.4 million by the end of April and Deegan took in $2.1 in the same period, according to the report.

Deegan and Davis advanced as the top two candidates from a field of eight who competed in a jungle primary in March.

Davis is a former City Council member and state representative who currently serves as CEO of the JAX Chamber of Commerce.

Davis had the backing of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Republican Lenny Curry currently serves as the city’s mayor.

Jacksonville is the nation’s most populous city with a Republican mayor, the report said.

    • Lauren Boebert served her husband Jayson divorce papers in April.

    • She's spent much of her political career advocating for "strong families."

    • She once told women struggling in their marriages that chasing Jesus would solve marital issues.
Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert once told women who were struggling in their marriages that devoting themselves to Jesus would solve their marital issues. This week — after years of making the traditional American family a cornerstone of her political platform — she joined a collective of far-right MAGA lawmakers who've gone through very public divorces.

On Tuesday, Boebert announced that she filed for divorce from her husband Jayson Boebert, citing irreconcilable differences. He didn't take it well: According to an affidavit, he flew into a rage and set his dogs on a process server when the documents were given to him on April 25.

News of Boebert's impending divorce comes after years of advocating for the traditional American marriage and family unit — the "union of one man and one woman."

Boebert's website still says that she believes "strong families are the foundation of American society." On the same page, she rages about "anti-family leftists" and touts her efforts to protect "family values."

Boebert has previously brought up her Christian faith while advocating for women to stay in rocky marriages.

"Are you struggling in your marriage? Begin to speak life into your marriage. Ladies, you were called to something great in your marriage. The power that you have in Christ, for your marriage, is unmatched," Boebert told an audience at the Cornerstone Christian Center during an event in June.

Now someone is obviously lying here. And so far we have Boebert's word for what happened and an affidavit signed under penalty of law for making a false statement.

And of course Boebert can clear this up very easily because she said; "Our own home security footage shows he didn’t “sick dogs” on the process server. The dogs were outside when the server pulled up, they never showed aggression toward him, nor did he appear afraid of them." So why does;t just post the video to see who is telling the truth.?

Lauren Boebert Can’t Even Talk About Her Divorce Without Trashing Bud Light

All’s fair in love and culture wars, as Rep. Lauren Boebert proved in pushing back against reports that husband Jayson Boebert reacted threateningly when served with divorce papers. The Colorado congresswoman apparently couldn’t resist taking a jab at Bud Light — continuously maligned by right-wingers for over a month because of a minor endorsement deal with trans entertainer Dylan Mulvaney — as she defended Jayson against the media.

“Jayson, a man I spent half of my life with, did not sign up to be in the public limelight, and he certainly did not agree to be falsely accused of things he didn’t do,” Boebert tweeted on Wednesday, conjuring the bizarre hypothetical of a person who does consent to be defamed.

She was irked, it would seem, by an affidavit from a process server who claimed that her partner of 20 years reacted harshly upon receiving notice that she had filed for a legal separation as of April 25. “Once he learned that he was being served with Dissolution of Marriage papers he was extremely angry,” the process server wrote, according The Daily Beast, which reviewed the document. “He started yelling and using profanities, and told me that I was trespassing, and that he was calling the Sheriff’s Office.”

The affidavit also noted that Jayson was cleaning a gun and had a “tall glass of beer,” two details that Boebert disputed — while, of course, reminding her supporters that whatever their irreconcilable differences, the couple bravely stands together against the woke menace of a beer brand trying to make inroads with the LGBTQ community. “Jayson doesn’t sit around cleaning guns and he certainly doesn’t drink beer out of a glass, just as much as he doesn’t drink Bud Light,” Boebert declared in her lengthy tweet.

Jayson Boebert also denied the details laid out in the affidavit. “I was not drinking and I was not cleaning any gun,” he wrote in texts to The Daily Beast. “The divorce is sad, I did not expect this, I love her with every bit of my heart, she has been my soul mate and she is the mother of my Children.” He added: “We have been through a lot together and I just want her to be happy.”

The Boeberts first met in 2003, when Lauren was 16 and Jayson was 22. In 2004, Jayson was arrested for — and pleaded guilty to — public indecency and lewd exposure after an incident at a bowling alley bar in Rifle, Colorado, serving four days in jail and two years of probation. Just as she now denies his belligerence as described in the recent affidavit, Boebert has claimed that Jayson never actually exposed himself in the bowling alley incident (she was present at the scene). “But the entire experience opened Jayson’s eyes to the reality that he needed the alcohol and anger management classes that came with the plea deal,” she wrote in her 2022 memoir, My American Life.

Also in 2004, Jayson was charged with domestic violence against Lauren, and pleaded guilty again. Months later, Lauren was booked for third-degree assault against him, though the outcome of that case is unclear. The pair were married in 2005 and have four sons, the eldest of whom is now 18 years old and, according to Boebert, expecting a baby with his teen girlfriend.

In her tweet on Wednesday, Boebert also denied a neighbor’s account of Jayson running over their mailbox last year. That claim was made in one of multiple 911 calls about the Boebert family, The D enver Post reported. The congresswoman called that story, and the statements in the process server’s affidavit, a “complete lie.”

“Our divorce is a private matter, but the misrepresentations must be addressed,” Boebert wrote. “Jayson deserves his privacy, not slanderous stories.”

Of course, no one had accused him of drinking Bud Light, but maybe she was just getting ahead of those allegations in case they emerge later on in the divorce process. Either way, when your projected image as a defender of family values and traditional marriage is looking a little shaky, it helps to stoke outrage about something else.

Colorado GOP fears it’s ceding ground to Democrats

Republican worries are growing that Colorado is slipping further into the hands of Democrats after recent defeats and close calls in the most conservative parts of the state.

The latest blow to the GOP in the Centennial State came this week when Republicans lost the mayoral race in Colorado Springs, marking the first time in decades that a member of the party wouldn’t take the helm of the conservative bastion.

That followed a surprise near-upset last year when Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) almost lost her reelection bid in one of the midterms’ biggest surprises.

Colorado’s changing political landscape, which Republicans believe is due to a culmination of factors, comes as the party looks to hold onto its slim House majority in next year’s elections.

“Across the board in Colorado, we saw a swing to the left that was wholly unanticipated” i
n the November midterms, said Sandra Hagen Solin, founder of lobbying firm Capitol Solutions, who has worked in Republican politics.

“Historically, Colorado has been a place where folks vote the person, and you have a lot of vote-splitting historically. And in this election cycle, it was largely an up-and-down-the-ticket vote for party, for Democrats,” she added.

Colorado Springs residents elected political newcomer and independent candidate Yemi Mobolade on Tuesday to take the helm of their city over Republican Wayne Williams, a former Colorado secretary of state. It will be the first time in 45 years that a Republican won’t be mayor of the city.

The results of the initial 12-candidate mayoral race in April had shown early indicators that Mobolade was leading the race, but the margin of the Tuesday runoff showed a remarkable landslide win of 15 points in a once-Republican stronghold.

“It’s clear Colorado Springs is less conservative than it used to be. When I was chairman here (of the El Paso County Republican Party) we had no Democratic state reps. Now we have three,” Williams explained following his election loss, according to The Gazette. “So there are significant changes that have taken place and I congratulate Yemi on an excellent campaign.”

While experts attribute that wide margin win to a few factors — Mobolade’s strong campaign, a divided GOP and the state’s rapid growth, which has impacted cities like Colorado Springs and changed the electoral dynamic — past election cycles have pointed to a changing political landscape over at least the past decade.

Back in 2016, former President Trump won El Paso County, which includes Colorado Springs, by more than 20 points. But by 2020, Trump had only won the county by 11 points. Joe O’Dea, the Republican Senate challenger who lost to Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) last cycle, won the county by a margin of 9 points with 55 percent of the vote there.

“That’s a defeat for a Republican candidate,” said former state GOP chair Dick Wadhams, regarding O’Dea’s margin of victory in El Paso.

    Boebert’s
congressional district offers another data point. She represents the 3rd Congressional District in the state, which encompasses southern and western portions of the state. In 2018, former Rep. Scott Tipton (R-Colo.), who represented the district before Boebert, won it by 8 points.

Boebert, on the other hand, won it in 2020 by 6 points and in 2022 by less than a percentage point. Democrat Adam Frisch, who challenged Boebert during the 2022 midterms, has already announced a second bid to reclaim the district as Republicans brace for another competitive election.

Republicans say there are a few reasons why Colorado’s once purple status has started to trend blue in more recent years. One of those reasons is the state’s rapidly changing demographics, as Colorado has seen a surge of people moving there.

Roughly 744,000 people moved to the state between 2010 and 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau data — a nearly 15-percent increase during a decade that was double that of the national country’s growth, according to The Colorado Sun. Experts say the migration includes people coming from states like California, which has shifted the political landscape. Those new arrivals are younger, too.

That goes hand in hand with a surge in unaffiliated voter registration. In November 2016, unaffiliated voters made up about 35 percent of the voting electorate in Colorado. Democrats and Republicans each made up 32 percent at that time.

But by last November, unaffiliated voters made up a whopping 45 percent of the voting electorate, while Democrats made up 28 percent and Republicans made up 25 percent.

“I think it’s literally demographics are the hugest reason why Colorado is shifting more blue. The people moving into our state are by and large more liberal, and the people leaving our state are by and large, more conservative,” said Kristi Burton Brown, who recently stepped down as state GOP chair.

Burton Brown explained that the increase in unaffiliated voters in the state is partly due to automatic voter registration. But she also suggested there’s been a rise in unaffiliated voters because “a lot of younger people are disillusioned with how divisive politics has become.”

“I think if either party were able to bring back more basic respect in politics and a positive vision that moves people forward instead of always just saying what people are angry about, that could draw younger people, I think, to a party,” she said.

But other experts says there’s a bigger problem for Republicans, one that is hurting even some of their best candidates, such as O’Dea.

“The Republican brand in this state has been so damaged by not just Trump, although he’s very toxic in the state, but beyond that, just by their sort of taking extreme positions on previous nominees, on ballot initiatives that were often soundly defeated on abortion and some of the other issues that O’Dea couldn’t get out from under the brand,” said Denver-based pollster Floyd Ciruli.

At the same time, recent events have shown a divided GOP. Former state Rep. Dave Williams, an election denier who tried to have the anti-Biden phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” listed as part of his name on a ballot for a House GOP primary that he lost last cycle, won the state GOP election for party chair in March.

That prompted several well-known Republicans to leave the party. Hagen Solin, the founder of the Capitol Solutions lobbying firm, suggested state party leadership isn’t reflective of what the state GOP used to embody.

“We’ve had a wonderful history of Republican leadership in this state that’s quite moderate over the years, but at present those in positions of leadership within the party … do not reflect that more moderate, pragmatic sort of tone,” she explained. “And it’ll be a little bit of time for us, for the Republican Party, to sort of restore that trust.”

In an interview with The Hill, Williams rejected that criticism.

“These are excuses from failed Republicans who want nothing more than to support sell-out Republicans who have failed us,” he explained.

“We’re not here to necessarily favor one side over another, but we’re certainly not going to let failed consultants and establishment Republicans of the past escape from the blame that they are due. They’re the ones who have failed us,” he added.

Williams suggested that O’Dea fared poorly in his race because “he just wasn’t a quality candidate that people could believe in.”

On the Colorado Springs mayoral race, the former lawmaker said that the first round of the mayoral race in April had left the Republican candidate bruised heading into the runoff, but he also suggested that grassroots Republicans had concerns with Williams.

At the end of the day, observers say that Republicans will need to build back their brand in the state if they have any hope of being successful in competitive House districts like the 3rd and 8th in 2024, and to even win Senate and gubernatorial races in 2026.

“I think Republicans are in for a little bit of a ‘time out’ in the wilderness until they have shed themselves of the Trump-MAGA brand, which could take a long time,” said Democratic strategist Craig Hughes. “I think outside of that, they’re going to need very unique candidates who have unique stories.”

Boebert is lying on two counts. One, the average cost of raising a child is between $15,438 and $17,375 a year. And two lots of women and girls in rural areas have abortions. I have known several.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) shared an ironic personal story on Tuesday about why she quit birth control—one that fellow Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) couldn’t help but mock, given Boebert’s past stances against reproductive freedom.

“I left a prescription at a pharmacy once,” Boebert said at a House Oversight hearing on drug prices. “I went to get birth control, and I was there at the counter and went to pay for it, and the price was very, very high … I said, ‘It’s cheaper to have a kid.’ And I left it there, and now I have my third son, Kaydon Boebert, and so it turned out to be a really great thing.”

    Ocasio-Cortez shot back on Twitter.

“And then she voted against the right to contraception so she could double this problem and give it to the next person,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted in response to a clip of Boebert’s anecdote.

She’s right—Boebert voted against the Right to Contraception Act in July of 2022, an act that likely would have made the birth control from Boebert’s story more accessible.

Boebert famously has said she dropped out of high school because of her own teenage pregnancy. Her 17-year-old son is now following in her footsteps, expecting a child of his own that will make Boebert a grandmother at just 36 years old.

The congresswoman has also encouraged other teen moms to do the same. In March, at an event hosted by Moms for America, Boebert said that rural conservatives are “special” because they don’t get abortions like the city folks do.

“There's something special about rural conservative communities,” Boebert said. “They value life. If you look at teen pregnancy rates throughout the nation, well, they're the same, [in] rural and urban areas. However, abortion rates are higher in urban areas. Teen moms’ rates are higher in rural conservative areas, because they understand the preciousness of a life that it's about to be born.”

Just more despicable attacks on anyone and anything that does not support abortion, even up to the point that any part of a fetus is still within the mother's body.

Did you actually READ the Right to Contraception Act Stumbler?

No matter. You'd still post this bit of propaganda anyway.

    • In December, Lauren Boebert's teen son called 911 to report his dad was "throwing me" in the house.

    • The teen sobbed throughout the two-minute call, saying he didn't understand why his dad was mad.

    • The boy called back soon after, denying it happened, with Boebert jumping on to say he was safe.
Rep. Lauren Boebert's son called 911 in December to report that his father, Jayson Boebert, had gotten physical with him and was "throwing" him around the house and that he didn't know why.

Minutes after the call ended — while Garfield County Sheriff's Office deputies were on their way to their home — the teen called again to take the accusations back, with Lauren Boebert jumping on the phone to say her son "doesn't need help."

Jayson Boebert denied to the deputies — and to Insider — that he had gotten physical with the teen.

"The safety and well-being of my family are the most important things in the world to me," Lauren Boebert told Insider on Thursday. "We've had some tough times and heartache. I've taken action to ensure there are better days ahead for all of us."

Last month, Boebert, a two-term Colorado Republican who has garnered a national reputation as a far-right representative, filed for divorce. She cited "irreconcilable differences."

An affidavit says when Jayson Boebert was served with the petition, he became "extremely angry."

"He started yelling and using profanities," the server wrote of what transpired.

Lauren Boebert denied that her husband reacted this way, calling it a "complete lie."

Still, the congresswoman is suing for parental-decision-making power and child support for their four sons. In a statement on the divorce, Boebert said she would not "discuss this matter any further in public" in deference to their kids.

In the December 11 emergency call, which came about four months before the divorce filing, Boebert's son told the dispatcher his mother had been living in a farmhouse at an attached property because the family was having "problems."

In the 6:46 p.m. call, obtained by Insider, the teen was sobbing, gasping for air, and had trouble speaking while saying his dad was "throwing me around."

The dispatcher asked the teen whether Jayson Boebert was physical with him.

"Yes, he was throwing me across," he said, breathing heavily.

"He called me a psycho, when he's the — " he added, trailing off.

The dispatcher told the teen she was going to have an officer come help and he didn't have to worry. She also asked whether there were weapons in the house.

"I mean, there are weapons in the house, yeah, but I don't think he'd use them on me," the son responded, still crying. "He just does this to me so much."

He added: "I'm in the driveway, but my mom's staying down at the farmhouse because there's problems with them. I'm going down there where he can't get to me."

Less than five minutes after the call ended, the teen called police again.

In the background, a woman can be heard yelling.

"All I wanted to say was is me and my dad were starting to yell. He didn't really get physical with me," the teen started to tell the same dispatcher before Boebert took the phone, cutting him off.

"Hi, I'm the mom," she said.

"OK. There was an argument over dinner. I understand you guys got to come and talk to them. I'm down at our second location with [our son] getting ready for an event," she said.

"Just to let you know, I have him," she told the dispatcher. "His dad's at the house."

The dispatcher said she was sending officers to talk to the teen and his dad to see whether he needed help.

"He doesn't need help," she said. "But yeah, they can come here."

In a police log from the incident, an officer reported that Jayson Boebert said he got into a verbal argument with his son and told him to go to the farmhouse to be with Boebert.

He said he didn't hurt him but "maybe the door touched his butt on the way out," according to the log.

The boy, too, told the officer "he started yelling at his dad first and his dad wasn't physical."

The teen "said he wasn't sure why he said that his dad hurt him, but he was upset," the log said.

The officer said there were no physical marks on the teen, he and Boebert were cooperative, and there was no crime committed.

Jayson Boebert said he didn't hurt his son, and all teenage boys 'test the bull'
Jayson Boebert told Insider Thursday that "nothing physical" happened on December 11. He said that he and his son had gotten into an argument and he insisted the teen go down to the farmhouse — about a 400-yard walk from the main house — to cool off. Jayson Boebert said his son wasn't happy about it, but that he needed time to cool off.

"He overreacted. We're back to being a family," Jayson Boebert, who works in the oil industry, told Insider, adding how uncomfortable he is with his family being in the spotlight. "All I do is work and come home and try to raise everyone."

Jayson Boebert told Insider he disciplines all four sons by making them run laps and do push-ups — not by hitting them.

Each one of the sons had gone through a phase, when they were between 14 and 16, where they didn't always get along with their dad.

Jayson Boebert said before his wife entered politics, the family spent a lot of time together when he was off from work, doing recreational activities. Now that Boebert is "serving the country" he spends a lot of time alone with the boys.

"Every teenage boy is going to want to test the bull," he said. "We've gotten over it."

On the day of the 911 calls from her Colorado home, Boebert Tweeted four times.

First, she made a joke about pronouns.

In two more — including one where she appeared in video — about her reelection.

"When you speak the name of Jesus, you aren't just saying a name," she said in the fourth. "You are declaring what you know about the authority and splendor of His name!"

The next day, she Tweeted again: "Conservatives, we need to be on OFFENSE not DEFENSE.," before firing off two more about immigration.

The Dec. 11 incident wasn't the first time the Garfield County Sheriff's Department was called to the Boebert house.

In August 2022, a neighbor called 911 on Jayson Boebert after the neighbor accused Jayson Boebert of threatening him and running over his mailbox. The man told the dispatcher that Jayson Boebert was looking to fight "everyone in the neighborhood" after a neighbor asked Boebert's son to stop speeding down the street in a dune buggy.

Deputies responded to the Boebert house again — most recently — on January 2, 2023 for a welfare check.

The log of the sheriff's office response was short, and didn't say who called for them to go to the house.

"Spoke with male at residence who came to the door when I knocked, stated "we're good," asked if he was sure he stated that he was," the log said.
