Rep. Lauren Boebert denied vaping at the performance of "Beetlejuice" in Denver, Colorado, that she was escorted out of. But new footage shows Boebert taking a hit from her vape, with a pregnant woman later sitting directly behind her.




Security footage obtained by 9NEWS Denver shows Boebert sitting in her seat and reaching into her bag. In the video, she can be seen bringing an object to her mouth, sucking on it, and then blowing out a cloud of vapor.

Later in the performance, a pregnant woman sitting behind her can be seen saying something to Boebert. The woman told The Denver Post that she asked Boebert to stop vaping, adding that the Colorado lawmaker refused.

The pregnant woman, whose name the Post did not release because she feared "backlash" from Boebert and her supporters, also said that Boebert called her a "sad and miserable person."

Boebert's campaign manager, Drew Sexton, confirmed in a statement that Boebert was escorted out of the performance but denied that she had been vaping.

He claimed that the fog machines and electronic cigarettes used in the show might have resulted in "a misunderstanding from someone sitting near her," according to The Washington Post.

An incident report provided to Insider by Denver Arts and Venues said that two patrons, one of whom was later identified as Boebert, received three different complaints of "vaping, singing, causing a disturbance."

Footage also shows Boebert dancing in her seat.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Boebert said she pleads "guilty to laughing and singing too loud! "

Boebert's team did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Newly released security camera footage appears to show Rep. Lauren Boebert , the far-right Republican congresswoman known for her strong stance against drag queens and transgender people, claiming their mere existence “sexualizes” spaces, engaging in inappropriate behavior during a family-friendly musical at a packed theater. Boebert and her companion were asked to leave the show due to their disruptive actions during a performance of the musical Beetlejuice.

In the video, Boebert's companion, identified by multiple news sources as 46-year-old Quinn Gallagher (a Democrat who owns a bar at which drag shows have occurred), is seen touching Boebert's chest during the show. Boebert, in response, appears to place her hand near his crotch and whispers something to him, Mediaite reports.

The suggested age for Beetlejuice is 10 and over.

This footage quickly went viral on social media, leading to widespread outrage.


The incident led to various social media posts, including the phrase "Not a drag queen," along with the video of Boebert involved in the handsy behavior.




Independent journalist and trans activist Erin Reed, who is engaged to Montana Rep. Zooey Zephyr, called out the right-wing hypocrisy demonstrated by Boebert’s actions.

“Lauren Boebert has talked a lot about LGBTQ people, 'appropriate behavior.' And now she gets caught fondling her partner in a packed theatre. Imagine for one moment a trans person was caught doing this. The news stories. The bills. The media circus,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter, adding, “Still not a drag queen.”

Boebert and her companion were confronted by theater officials at their seats inside the Buell Theater, as previously shown in video footage obtained by Denver NBC affiliate KUSA. After a brief conversation, they were escorted out of the theater.

The security camera footage also captures Boebert taking flash photographs, dancing, and using a vape pen inside the theater. Subsequently, she left the venue after theater staff threatened to call police. Initially, Boebert jokingly attributed the incident to "laughing and singing too loudly" and denied vaping, suggesting that the smoke came from the theater's fog machine. However, a separate video contradicted this claim, showing Boebert using her vape pen and blowing smoke toward the audience.

An incident report stated that Boebert protested her removal, asking, "Do you know who I am?" and referring to her supposed board membership and intentions to contact the mayor.

Many people noted the apparent hypocrisy in Boebert's actions, given her history of making derogatory remarks about the LGBTQ+ community, painting its members as sexually deviant.

Boebert's critics enjoyed tremendous schadenfreude, with Boebert being the one caught engaging in public sexual behavior in a theater where children were present.

Boebert issued an apology late on Friday, expressing regret for the vaping incident, which she claimed to have no recollection of, and attributing her disruptive behavior to her ongoing divorce proceedings, The Colorado Sun reports.

"The past few days have been difficult and humbling, and I'm truly sorry for the unwanted attention my Sunday evening in Denver has brought to the community," she stated. "While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that."

She added, "There's no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce, which over the past few months has made for a challenging personal time for me and my entire family. I've tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That's unacceptable, and I'm sorry."

The Advocate reached out to Boebert’s spokesperson to ask for an explanation of how Boebert reconciles her behavior with her false smears on the LGBTQ+ community as inappropriately sexual but did not receive an immediate response.

A new video appears to show Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert being overtly fondled by her date in the middle of a musical theater performance of "Beetlejuice" shortly before the pair were kicked out of the show for being disruptive.

The GOP representative, who has repeatedly criticized Democrats for "grooming" children with pro-LGBTQ+ policies and rhetoric, can be seen in the clip obtained by 9News appearing to have her chest groped and grabbing the crotch of her date during a family-friendly performance The Broadway League recommends for children 10 and up.




"If this were a gay couple it would be the #1 story all over right-wing media calling them groomers," X user Chris Evans captioned a clip of Boebert's behavior. "This was a goddamn performance of Beetlejuice."

"Four months ago, Lauren Boebert called for a boycott of North Face because the outdoor apparel company featured a drag queen in a harmless, non-sexual advertisement because she believes drag queens are a public sexual nuisance (they are not). And yet..." lesbian writer Charlotte Clymer posted on X, responding to the video.

After initially claiming she was removed from the theater for "singing too loud," Boebert changed her stance on Friday when additional video from the incident began circulating online.

Insider previously reported a pregnant woman who was in the audience said Boebert called her a "sad and miserable person" for reporting the congresswoman to an usher after she refused to stop vaping during the performance and flipped off the usher escorting her out of the auditorium following numerous complaints about her behavior.

"While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that," Boebert said in a statement emailed to Insider, calling her own actions "unacceptable," though specifically stating that she "did not recall vaping that evening."

Representatives for Boebert did not respond to questions about her apparently engaging in sexually explicit behavior where children were present or the criticism directed at her from the LGBTQ+ community.

The Colorado representative is divorcing her husband of 18 years, Jayson Boebert, who pleaded guilty in 2004 to exposing his penis to a 17-year-old in a bowling alley. The congresswoman filed for divorce in May, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split.

Bobert's statement added: "There's no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce, which over the past few months has made for a challenging personal time for me and my entire family. I've tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday."

Representatives for The Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Denver Arts and Venues, which operates the facility, did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider.

While U.S. Rep.

was escorted out of a Sunday night show of the “Beetlejuice” musical tour in downtown Denver over the weekend after venue staff accused her of vaping and recording the production, and “causing a disturbance” during the performance, it is not the first time the Republican from Colorado has made headlines for alarming behavior.

Both smoking inside a building and the unauthorized filming of the musical are against the venue’s policy. Moreover, it was annoying other paying theatergoers.

A few of the city-owned Buell Theatre’s patrons reported Boebert’s “outrageous” behavior to ushers and the house staff. One pregnant woman who was seated directly behind her reported her actions during the intermission, stating that the politician was vaping, loudly singing, and recording, not knowing she was a U.S. representative.


“These people in front of us were outrageous. I’ve never seen anyone act like that before,” the woman said to The Denver Post.


“You’re not the first complaint [we’ve] had,” the usher reportedly told the woman.

After the woman returned to her seat, the mom-to-be alleges Boebert called her a “sad and miserable person.” The congresswoman also gave a theater employee the middle finger as she was being escorted out.


Many believe the recent event is not shocking because she has been caught doing the most in many other instances.

Boebert is No Stranger to Breaking the Rules (and Getting Caught)
Since 2010, the congresswoman has been arrested and summonsed at least four times, according to records. Three of her arrests and one court-ordered summons were for petty crimes. In the fall of 2010, she was issued a ticket for harassing a neighbor and her husband with her pitbull dogs.

She was arrested twice in Mesa County in 2015, once for disorderly conduct and another time for failure to appear in court, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. In 2016 and 2017, she was in trouble with the law because of traffic offenses. Ironically, the Garfield County sheriff that booked her in 2017 endorsed her for Congress when she ran.

Boebert Does Not Hide That She Is a Raging Xenophobe
In 2021, Boebert made headlines when she alleged that Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-American to serve in the United States Congress, was a terrorist because she was Muslim and had her head wrapped when she saw her in an elevator.

“I look to my left, and there she is, Ilhan Omar, and I said, ‘Well, she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine,’” Boebert said, according to CNN. “So we only had one floor to go, and I say, do I say it or do I not? And I look over, and I say, ‘Look, the jihad squad decided to show up for work today.’ Don’t worry, it’s just her staffers on Twitter that talk for her. She’s not tough in person.”

Eventually, she apologized, but after she said it, the world knew her vile disposition about people from across the ocean.

In the Midst of a Gun Violence Crisis, She Flaunts Her Guns
During a 2021 Zoom meeting of the House Natural Resources Committee, the Colorado Republican positioned herself with a very interesting backdrop. She piled a number of firearms in the back of her, punctuating her pro-gun stance.

Democratic Rep. Jared Huffman called her gun “shrine” a “fetish.”

Many believed it was distasteful because of all the people killed by guns in 2021. The CDC says 48,830 people died from gun-related injuries. About 43 percent of those deaths were homicides, and 54 percent of them were deaths by suicide.

Boebert Is a Poster Child for Ignorance
Again, in 2021, Boebert went on a campaign to have President Joe Biden impeached. She took to social media to say she was filing articles of impeachment — but spelled the word wrong in her heading. She (or her staff) wrote in a bold red, white, and blue graphic, “IMEACH BIDEN.”

Social media dragged her for the misspelling. One person tweeted, “Looks like the GOP is not just anti-science, and anti-democracy they are Now also anti-Spelling.”


Boebert Brought a Gun to Capitol Hill a Week After Jan. 6
The right-wing provocateur declared that she would bring her Glock into Washington, D.C., a week after the terrorist insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021. By trying to bring the gun into the building, she sparked a major security upheaval. She attempted to pass through newly installed metal detectors as she tried to enter the Capitol, and when the alarm went off, she refused to give the Capitol police her bag to search. As a result, she was unable to go into the House chambers.

It is unclear how long she caused a ruckus, but eventually, she was able to go in with her colleagues and cast her vote. She would later go and tweet, “I am legally permitted to carry my firearm in Washington, D.C., and within the Capitol complex. Metal detectors outside of the House would not have stopped the violence we saw last week — it’s just another political stunt by Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi.”


These are just a few examples of the congresswoman’s character— which makes her outrageous theater outing a little more believable.

Boebert’s campaign manager did eventually release a statement about the Buell Theatre ejection to the Colorado Sun, saying, “I can confirm the stunning and salacious rumors: in her personal time, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert is indeed a supporter of the performing arts (gasp!).”

“She appreciates the Buell Theatre’s strict enforcement of their no photos policy and only wishes the Biden Administration could uphold our border laws as thoroughly and vigorously.”

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) is being skewered by her fellow Republicans after video footage showed her in close contact with a male companion at a Beetlejuice musical from which she was booted after allegedly vaping in front of a pregnant woman.

Boebert, who at first denied vaping in the theater and then ultimately apologized after the video showed that she was lying, is fresh off a divorce.

The outrage from the left after the video went viral was expected, but Boebert's fellow Republicans didn't let her off the hook for her purportedly hypocritical actions, either.

The Daily Beast compiled a list of GOPers upset by Boebert's alleged actions.

"Several high-profile Republicans took to social media to scorch Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) after the congresswoman and her boyfriend were caught fondling each other in a packed theater last weekend," the outlet reported.

Here are some of the highlights:

“She lectures everyone about the LGBT community being a threat to children while getting caught performing a lewd sex act in a public theatre where children possibly were,” Meghan McCain said in a post.

“This is ‘family values’? This is why people think the GOP are all hypocrites.” Ann Coulter posted to X, calling the lawmaker a “totally embarrassing bimbo.” “Can't Colorado find SOME Republican not trashy and stupid to represent them in the 3rd congressional district?” she wrote, according to the Daily Beast.

“Excuse it all you want—she behaved badly, denied it till exposure, and there's no excuse except tribally,” conservative talk show host Erick Erickson said.

Former Virginia representative Denver Riggleman wrote that “Lauren Boebert seems a bit confused about Freedom Caucus members telling her to ‘reach across the aisle.’”

A day after Lauren Boebert apologized for her behavior at a Sunday show of "Beetlejuice" in Denver, Colorado, a conservative conference announced the representative would speak at their upcoming convention.

The Texas Youth Summit, aimed at children and young adults, allows anyone between 12 and 26 to attend for free. The Summit will be held at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott outside of Houston at the end of the month.

"We are excited to add firebrand Congresswoman @laurenboebert from Colorado's third district to our all-star @texasyouthsummit lineup," the Friday post said.

The announcement comes amid controversy surrounding the Boebert's behavior during the theater performance, in which she was escorted out for vaping and bothering other guests.

Initially, Boebert's team issued a statement that said she was not vaping in the theater. Later, she said she "genuinely" did not remember vaping when security camera footage from the theater showed her exhaling a white cloud.

Surveillance video later obtained by local station 9NEWS Denver also appeared to show Boebert having her chest groped and grabbing the crotch of her date during the performance.

Boebert released a statement on Friday apologizing for her behavior and stating that she "simply fell short of my values on Sunday."

Christian Collins, founder of the Texas Youth Summit, declined to comment to Insider or clarify whether or not the decision to allow Boebert to speak came before or after September 10. Boebert also attended the event last year and advocated for theocratic, conservative politics to the young crowd with a pistol strapped to her leg.

According to its website, the summit began in 2019. It is an annual event hosted by the nonprofit Texas Youth Foundation to promote "fiscal responsibility, free market, limited government, American Exceptionalism," and "Judeo-Christian principles," per its mission statement. Its website also says it aims to directly "counter the effects of the Left."

In addition to Boebert, this year's speakers include Donald Trump, Jr., Charlie Kirk, and other conservative federal and state representatives.

The hotel hosting the event, the Woodlands Waterway Marriott, did not have a representative available to respond to Insider. Representatives for Boebert did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider sent outside regular business hours.

Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert appears to be on track to have her divorce finalized next month, ushering in a new chapter for the conservative Republican who is never far from the headlines in Washington.

According to the court docket, Boebert and Jayson Boebert have a non-contested hearing scheduled for October 10. After nearly two decades of marriage, the congresswoman filed for separation in May.

Boebert was escorted out of a performance of the "Beetlejuice" musical in Denver on Sunday.

Footage shows the congresswoman vaping and the theater's operators accused her of disturbing the performance. The Denver Post reported that another patron was escorted out too. The Daily Mail claimed the unnamed patron was a bar owner, whom the tabloid claimed Boebert has been dating for months.



Many of the records in Boebert's divorce proceedings are not publicly available. In an August 10 order obtained by Insider, Magistrate Katherine Barnes wrote that Jayson Boebert had not responded to a motion "multiple times" after the congresswoman's attorneys tried to reach him. He does not appear to have a lawyer and is likely representing himself. The full extent of Boebert's motion is not clear, but the nature of the October hearing likely suggests that the couple's divorce will be finalized.

A Colorado attorney who practices family law and is not connected to the case told Insider that it is likely the October hearing will result in the divorce being finalized since it is "non-contested." What remains unclear is to what extent if any Jayson Boebert is now cooperating.

"A non-contested hearing can be set either because the parties have reached a full settlement or one party has failed to participate in the case, so it is non-contested kind of by virtue of default," Robinson & Henry Partner Alyssa Little, who leads the firm's family law team in Denver, said in an interview.

Boebert's attorney did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment neither did Jayson Boebert.

According to Boebert's most recent financial disclosure, the couple held at least $6,000 in assets. They also have a mortgage that is at least $250,000. Lawmakers are only required to report broad ranges of the assets they and their spouses have. They are not required to estimate the value of their home(s) in that calculation. Boebert rose to fame as the owner of a gun-themed bar and grill, but the couple did not own the actual property. "Shooters Grill" closed in 2022.

A process server previously claimed that Jayson Boebert flew into a rage when he was served with divorce papers and set his dogs loose. At the time, the congresswoman claimed that such accusations were "a complete lie." Boebert's office did not respond to Insider's request for comment. One of the Boebert's' four sons called 911 last December to report that Jayson Boebert had gotten physical with him.

Boebert has made herself into a firebrand in Washington.
Boebert has aligned herself with staunch conservatives since her arrival in Washington in 2021. She is a member of the far-right House Freedom Caucus and was central to the prolonged debacle that delayed Kevin McCarthy's rise to the House Speakership in January 2023. Recently, she has tangled with Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who was booted from the Freedom Caucus after she called Boebert "a little bitch" on the House floor. Opposition to Greene's membership had been building for months fueled by her close ties to McCarthy.

Boebert has also heckled President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address, a once unthinkable breach of decorum that has become more commonplace in recent years.

Boebert's future in Washington is less certain. She narrowly won reelection in 2022, winning by just 546 votes. Democrat Adam Frisch, a former Aspen city council member, is already running for a rematch next November.

It does appear that the Colorado Republican senses the danger, as she candidly told Politico that she is trying to use a different persona when she's back home.

"I have these dual aspects of national and home," Boebert told Politico.

Lauren Boebert could face sex crime charge under Colorado's lewdness law

The fallout from Rep. Lauren Boebert's humiliating ouster from a Denver theater after she aggravated fellow playgoers by vaping, dancing in her seat, taking flash pictures and engaging in mutual groping with her date may not be over.

According to a report from Newsweek, the normally attention-seeking Colorado Republican may have run afoul of a Colorado ordinance designed to clamp down on public lewdness that, if taken to the extreme, is punishable by fines and up to six months in prison – along with being classified as a sex offender.

Boebert, who has since apologized profusely for her actions a week ago while in the audience of a "Beetlejuice" performance, runs the risk that she could be charged with 18-7-301 of the Colorado criminal code.

As Newsweek's Nick Mordowanec wrote, the law stipulates that "public indecency is a petty offense sex crime ' but does tend "to carry lighter penalties, though, such as 10 days in jail and/or up to $300 fines, in addition to potential probation, community service or mandatory counseling."

But there is an outside chance of a sex offender designation that could be placed upon the 36-year-old who recently became a grandmother if she is convicted.

The report states, "In most cases, such crimes don't lead to individuals being classified as sex offenders. The law also differs from indecent exposure, which involves an individual knowingly exposing their genitals to satisfy sexual desires. Lawyers have a difficult time proving public indecency, however, due to the broadness of the statute and the relative nature surrounding the act. Matthew Hand, a Denver-based criminal attorney, says that the law 'is vague and overreaching.'"

In an interview with Newsweek, Hand explained, "Although a theater is a crowded public setting where 'a lewd fondling' could be prosecuted as public indecency, it is unlikely that brief groping, over the clothes, while seated in a dark theater, would lead to conviction. The acts need to have been 'reasonably expected to be viewed' by others, and a jury must be convinced of that beyond a reasonable doubt."
