Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed from his post in a narrow Tuesday vote.

Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., is the new temporary leader of the House of Representatives after former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was removed from his post Tuesday afternoon in a nail-biting vote.

House rules dictated McCarthy, upon his election as speaker in January, provide a secret list of members to succeed him as speaker pro tempore should the office be vacated as it was with his removal. It was revealed following the vote to oust McCarthy that McHenry was at the top of the list.

McHenry, a former media consultant and political operative, was first elected to the House to represent North Carolina's 10th Congressional District in 2004. He was selected as the House Republican chief deputy whip in 2015, and served in the role until 2019. He was selected as chair of the House Financial Services Committee in January.

Now that he is speaker pro tempore, he has the powers of the House speaker in order to guide the chamber in its continued operation until a new speaker is elected.

Well, I really don't know anything about Patrick McHenry. I suppose this is probably a good thing considering I haven't heard about him doing anything to put him on my radar for being a twofaced RINO.

His role as speaker is limited. There is going to be a lot of backdoor infighting between the members of the GOP with regards to electing a new speaker.

With any luck, this issue will be resolved within a couple of weeks.

The Republican party really needs to get their shit together because the American people (at least the ones I know) are fed up with the incompetence and failures of the Republican party.

Oh and I would just like to add that I hope this sends a message to Mitch McConnell. He's about a worthless fuck who is way past his expiration date...

I didn't always agree with what Kevin McCarthy did, but ousting him at this point was a horrible short-sighted move for the GOP.

This guy, McHenry? Never heard of him.

But hey, you don't have to a member of the House of Representatives to be Speaker, so I hope you will all (not the leftards) vote for me.

Nancy Pelosi Ordered to Vacate Her Office By New Acting Speaker, and the Tears Start Immediately

Kevin McCarthy is out as Speaker of the House. What that means going forward for Republicans isn't known yet, but there is some objectively good news that broke on Tuesday evening.

Following McCarthy's ouster, acting Speaker Patrick McHenry ordered Nancy Pelosi to leave the special hideaway office she didn't relinquish following her party's defeat in the 2022 mid-terms. The email notifying Pelosi's office of the order to get out got right to the point, noting that the office will be re-keyed if she doesn't leave.

As one of his first acts as the acting speaker, Rep. Patrick McHenry ordered former Speaker Nancy Pelosi to vacate her Capitol hideaway office by Wednesday, according to an email sent to her office viewed by POLITICO.

“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” wrote a top aide on the Republican-controlled House Administration Committee. The room was being reassigned by the acting speaker “for speaker office use,” the email said.

Henry is a close ally of McCarthy, and this is almost certainly well-deserved retaliation. According to McCarthy, as part of the passage of the recent 45-day clean continuing resolution, Pelosi had promised to not support Gaetz if a motion to vacate was filed. Instead, the former Democrat Speaker stabbed now former Republican Speaker in the back and actually encouraged her caucus not to save McCarthy. In the end, Democrats joined with a small group of Republicans to end McCarthy's tenure.

I suppose the lesson is to not make deals with Nancy Pelosi, but what's done is done, and it's good to see Henry striking back. Naturally, Pelosi cried and moaned about the decision.

The former speaker blasted the eviction in a statement as “a sharp departure from tradition,” adding that she had given former Speaker Dennis Hastert “a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished” during her tenure.

Oh, it was a "sharp departure from tradition?" So was ousting a sitting Speaker, but Pelosi had no problem helping make that happen. Democrats play for keeps, and the only way to respond to their ruthlessness is with ruthlessness.

The band-aid was ripped off in a variety of ways with McCarthy's ouster. Going forward, there should be no presumption that the opposition party won't get involved in the majority's fight over who will be Speaker. Pelosi wanted to cause chaos and chaos she should receive. That starts with making her staffers haul her big screen TV and the rest of her belongings out of her prestigious office.

I don't think that sending everyone home until next Tuesday was a smart move on his part. By the time everyone gets back they'll need to choose a speaker and bring out a few clean bills in less than 30 days.....We will see.....

This is both funny and significant. Its a lose lose situation and its too late because its already on the table. They could make Trump Speaker. But the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans would have to violate or rewrite their own rules. And then Trump could not do the job. Being speakers is complicated and requires knowing Congress inside out and especially all the rules. And being speaker is also real work that would require Trump being on or near the floor at all times and in constant contact with members of his conference. And you can't do it from the golf course. So Trump as Speaker would be a disaster.

But far more likely the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans will reject Trump exposing him to ridicule and humiliation. Which will make Trump turn around and attack them.

Guess Who Far-Right Republicans Want to be the Next House Speaker?

    Republicans have booted

Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House. But don’t worry, they already have a great plan to replace him.

For the first time in U.S. history, the House voted Tuesday night to vacate the speakership. Most Republicans, including the ones who voted to kick McCarthy out, quickly made it clear that they have no idea what actually happens next. But a candidate soon began to emerge: Trump.

    .

Freedom Caucus member Troy Nehls was one of the first to suggest the former president as a candidate for speaker.

His call was soon taken up by other far-right Republicans, such as Greg Steube and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Luckily for them, the quadruply indicted, liable-for-sexual assault, defamation, and business fraud presidential candidate may make some time in his calendar to step up to the plate. Fox News’s Sean Hannity reported late Tuesday that Trump is “open to helping the Republican Party, at least in the short term, if necessary.”

This isn’t the first time that Republicans have tried to put Trump forward as speaker. During the 15 grueling votes for speaker in January, Gaetz.

nominated Trump as speaker instead of voting for McCarthy.

Gaetz, who filed the motion to vacate McCarthy, has yet to join in the calls for Trump. He has expressed support for both Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan. Gaetz and several other Freedom Caucus members voted several times for Jordan over McCarthy in January, despite the fact that Jordan backed McCarthy and made it clear he had no interest in holding the gavel.

But even Gaetz may come around to the idea of Trump as House speaker: Earlier this week, he pointed out that the next leader of the House does not need to be a member of the chamber.

Unfortunately, Republicans’ own House rules may bar Trump from holding the speakership. As Democratic Representative Sean Casten pointed out, the rules clearly state that a member of Republican leadership must step aside if they have been “indicted for a felony for which a sentence of two or more years imprisonment may be imposed.”

Schumer touts Inflation Reduction Act as a way for Democrats to win voters
    August 17, 20235:08 AM ET

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is using the Inflation Reduction Act as a key message for Democrats in 2024. He says it will frame the choice for voters between Republicans and Democrats.

    LEILA FADEL, HOST:

This week marks the one-year anniversary of one of President Biden's big legislative achievements, the Inflation Reduction Act. The top Senate Democrat says the act frames a key contrast with Republicans heading into the 2024 election.

CHUCK SCHUMER: They're busy investigating. We're busy investing in America. Ask yourself, which one does the public want?

FADEL: NPR congressional correspondent Deirdre Walsh sat down with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York to talk about the Inflation Reduction Act. And she's here now to tell us about it. Good morning, Deirdre.

DEIRDRE WALSH, BYLINE: Good morning, Leila.

FADEL: So one of the criticisms of the Inflation Reduction Act is that people don't know what it's doing or if it's doing anything. What was Schumer's response to that?

WALSH: He admitted it's going to take some time. And he said, just like the economy, there's a lag between when some key indicators come out and when Americans actually feel things are getting better.

SCHUMER: We believe if we persist, if we're constantly showing the implementation of the IRA, that by the time next summer rolls around, people will know it and know it well. And by the way, I'd say the same thing about the economy. Usually, when people draw a snapshot about the economy, you know, it takes a while. So they're looking six months back. And six months back, inflation was worse. Six months back, the economy was less robust. But six months from now, they're going to see a much better economy. And they're going to see costs going down.

FADEL: But right now, the news cycle is consumed with former President Trump's fourth indictment, Hunter Biden's legal issues. Isn't there a danger for Democrats that this act won't break through?

WALSH: I mean, Schumer really waved off the idea that Democrats' message is going to be overshadowed at all by all the legal Trump news and Hunter Biden news. He argued the cumulative effect of the IRA is something voters are going to feel personally. He kind of just dismissed the Hunter Biden probes, what he said is just Washington usual background noise.

SCHUMER: People care most about getting their costs down, making sure there are good-paying jobs for themselves and their kids. That's what the IRA has done. And I believe, by the time the election gets closer, that will be the dominant thing in people's mind, not any of this stuff.

FADEL: And yet West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, who helped write the bill, has been critical of it in recent weeks. He said parts need to be repealed. How did Schumer respond to that?

WALSH: He downplayed Manchin's criticisms. Remember, Manchin is up for reelection in 2024. And Democrats have a really narrow majority. He hasn't announced yet whether he's going to run for his Senate seat. Schumer stressed he has a good relationship with Manchin and that West Virginia is going to benefit from this law.

SCHUMER: There are going to be parts that Senator Manchin never liked and will say he opposes. That's fair enough. But there are lots of things he said he likes in that bill and in the agreement that we had. And so, no, I don't think it hurts us at all.

FADEL: Democrats have a narrow Senate majority and will have to defend in several red states. Does Schumer think the IRA is going to help Democrats in those states over the line?

WALSH: He really is betting it is. In places like Ohio, West Virginia, Montana, he's saying that the law is going to be a central theme for Democrats. They'll be able to point to specific battery plants and other projects stemming from the law as examples of how people are getting new jobs. Schumer noted that Republicans who didn't vote for the law are showing up at ribbon cuttings for new projects.

He also said abortion is going to be a big issue in next year's election, just like it was in the 2022 midterms. But Schumer said the economic message and the message about Democrats defending reproductive rights were not going to be mutually exclusive. In the end, the majority leader predicted a strong Democratic tide in 2024 that's going to help Democrats keep that majority. But, you know, 15 months is an eternity in politics, so a lot can happen between now and next November.

FADEL: So true. NPR's Deirdre Walsh. Thanks, Deirdre.

    WALSH: Thanks, Leila.

'Petty S**t': Acting GOP Speaker Slammed For ‘Despicable’ Move Against Pelosi
    Ed Mazza
Tue, October 3, 2023 at 10:09 PM MDT·4 min read

House Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) had a curious choice for one of his very first orders of business: He booted Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from the hideaway office she has in the Capitol.

“Please vacate the space tomorrow, the room will be re-keyed,” a top aide on the Republican-controlled House Administration Committee wrote to Pelosi, according to Politico.

The move came hours after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was forced out of the speaker’s chair in a Republican coup.

The hideaways are traditionally used by members of the Senate, but a handful of House members also have them. McCarthy had allowed Pelosi to have a hideaway due to her status as a former House speaker, NBC News reported.

Pelosi noted that she extended a similar courtesy to her predecessor, and she called the move “a sharp departure from tradition.”

“Office space doesn’t matter to me, but it seems to be important to them,” she said in a statement. “Now that the new Republican Leadership has settled this important matter, let’s hope they get to work on what’s truly important for the American people.”

Pelosi is in California for the funeral of Sen.

(D-Calif.), who was a longtime friend, and said she was unable to move her belongings right now. Politico said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) sent his staff members to help with the move.

Critics slammed McHenry for the “petty” move against Pelosi:
