He sounds like way too much of a whining pussy to be with her. No wonder she divorced him (or vice versa - don't really care).

Again, the undeserving narcissist grabs any thread to post his endless, pointless spew.

Now Clarise what has always made me literally laugh out loud at you and I mean gong back years is you can never see yourself and use words you can't seem to comprehend Just to lash out at me.

That is obviously more true of you than it is me. I didn't just grab this thread to just post anything on. I keep it for very specific reasons. The most important of which is an archive to how things are going since the mid terms. And of course Democratic victories. Because as you well know from all your years here I am a partisan warrior at war with the lie of conservatism as it is preached and practiced in this nation. And now more than ever at war with treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans trying to turn the United States of America into a fascist dictatorship.

But I also have a special interest in one specific treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican because Lauren Boebert is just so emblematic of the stupid, ignorant, and hypocritical treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican party. They are now a party of Boeberts.

Here are just a very few of the many MANY examples.

But what makes me laugh even harder at you Clarise is if you want to see an example of "Again, the undeserving narcissist grabs any thread to post his endless, pointless spew" here ya go. No connection to anything on this thread. Just random spew. When there are probably a dozen other threads that are specific to these topics.

And now Clarise it has been fun for old time's sake but I really do need to get back to work. Because I have to wonder if the voters of district 4 are amused?

Lauren Boebert jokes about lewd behavior as she introduces herself to new district

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) introduced herself to her new would-be constituents with a joke about her public lewdness caught on video at a theater.

The Colorado Republican decided to avoid a tough re-election battle in her current district, which she barely won in 2022, and moved to a more conservative district across the state from her home, and she tried to make light of the baggage she carried with her in an introductory event, reported Newsweek.

"Many of you known who I am," Boebert told Baca County Republicans on Jan. 5. "I don't have to ask like the ushers at the Buell Theater."

Boebert and her date were asked to leave a September performance of "Beetlejuice" at the Denver theater after they were caught groping one another on surveillance cameras and vaping, and she was seen raising her middle finger to employees as she left, while theater employees say she asked them whether they knew her name.

The congresswoman initially denied vaping and misbehaving at the performance, but she eventually apologized after the surveillance video clearly confirmed employee allegations.

"I genuinely did not recall vaping that evening when I discussed the night's events with my campaign manager," she said at the time. "We do understand the nature of how this looks."

Boebert became the subject of a police investigation after officers were called to a restaurant in Silt, where her ex-husband claimed she punched him – although the congresswoman denies the allegation and her former spouse has said he does not want her to be charged.

"I don't want nothing to happen," Jayson Boebert said. "Her (sic) and I were working through a difficult conversation."

Lauren Boebert's ex-husband arrested on weapons and assault charges

Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-CO) ex-husband was arrested on multiple charges involving firearms and assault.

The charges against Jayson Boebert came three days after he called the police on the congresswoman following a physical altercation outside a Colorado restaurant, where he claimed his former wife had repeatedly hit him in the face, reported CBS News.

Court records show Jayson Boebert was arrested Tuesday on six charges, including prohibited use of weapons, third-degree assault, and obstructing a peace officer.

He was booked into Garfield County Jail and released on $2,500 bond.

Lauren Boebert barely won re-election last year Colorado's 3rd district and recently announced she would run instead in another district more favorable to Republicans, and she claimed after this weekend's incident with her former husband was "another reason I'm moving."

The long-married couple with four children closed the restaurant they owned together last year and divorced, and the lawmaker and another man were kicked out of a Denver theater during a musical adaptation of Beetlejuice for vaping and engaging in lewd behavior that was caught on security video.

Jayson Boebert was previously arrested in January 2004 for allegedly exposing his genitals to two women at a bowling alley, and he pleaded guilty to public indecency and lewd exposure and was sentenced to four days in jail.

The following month he was booked on a domestic violence charge against his future wife, who was 17 years old at the time, and later sentenced to seven days in jail.

Lauren Boebert was charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief and underage drinking charges in May 2004 after an incident at her future husband's home in which she scratched his face and caused damage to his residence.

The couple married the following year.

The congresswoman has been charged several other times over the years, most recently in September 2016, when she was slapped with careless driving and operating an unsafe vehicle after rolling her truck into a ditch.

She later pleaded guilty to the unsafe vehicle charge and paid $123.50 in fines and court costs.

Republicans Annihilate Democrats in Virginia Election Sweep (msn.com)

Republicans Annihilate Democrats in Virginia Election Sweep
Story by Kate Plummer • 3h

Republicans scored massive victories in elections held in Virginia on Tuesday, returning two GOP politicians to local legislature following the departure of the incumbents.

While it has leaned to Democrats in recent elections, Virginia is seen as an important battleground state ahead of the 2024 election, with Republicans winning in the latest gubernatorial election in 2021 and political commentators labeling it a competitive purple state.

Tammy Mulchi defeated Democrat Tina Wyatt-Younger by 63.9 percent to 36.1 percent of the vote to win the 9th state Senate District in Southside. She will succeed state Sen. Frank Ruff, who is retiring after being diagnosed with cancer, Cardinal News reported.

"In Richmond, I am ready to get to work for our rural communities, family farmers, and southern Virginia," Mulchi said in a statement. "I know I have big shoes to fill with Sen. Ruff retiring, but I am ready to get to work."

In the 48th House District, also in Southside, Eric Phillips beat Melody Cartwright with 70.8 percent of the vote to Cartwright's 29.2 percent. The vote was triggered by the resignation of Republican Les Adams, who is seeking a judgeship in Danville.

"With Democrats in control of the General Assembly, Republicans need a fighter who will stand up for our way of life and push forward Gov. [Glenn] Youngkin's conservative agenda," Phillips said in a statement.

The victories took place in Republican strongholds, replacing GOP incumbents. Speaking to Newsweek, Scott Lucas, a professor in international politics at University College Dublin, said the Virginia results do not "mean that much at a national level."

"Both of the seats were solid Republican seats before they went to special elections," he said.

"If the Republicans had lost them, then that would have been a bit of a shocker because that would be an upset and it would portend that Virginia, at the local level, might be swinging very much to the Democrats ahead of the 2024 elections."

He added that a lot of races in the 2024 elections could go "either way" and Virginia does not give a sense of "which way the pendulum will swing."

Nevertheless, the results might galvanize Republicans ahead of the upcoming federal elections in November. In both the votes, the margin of victory was higher than what Donald Trump's party achieved in those districts in 2020.

Meanwhile, in 2020, President Joe Biden won the state with 54.4 percent of the vote to Republican Trump's 44.2 percent in the presidential election.

The Democrats enjoyed similar success in the Senate elections, with Mark Warner winning 56 percent of the votes and beating his challenger Daniel Gade, who won 44 percent of the vote.

There were also votes in Virginia's 11 districts for the House of Representatives. Neither party flipped a seat, meaning Democrats maintained control of seven seats to the Republican's four.

Glenn Youngkin won the race for state governor in 2021. In November 2023, Democrats in Virginia won control of both the state's chambers of government by taking control of the General Assembly

Whether the balance of power changes in November remains to be seen, but latest polling conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy has suggested Biden could beat Trump 49 percent to 43 percent in the upcoming election, meaning he would keep the state, but with a smaller majority than in the 2020 election. The survey was of 625 registered voters and was conducted between December 15 to December 19.

Newsweek has contacted representatives of the Republican Party and the Democratic Party via email to comment on this story.

Liz Cheney says it's vital GOP loses Congress: 'Cannot be in the majority in 2025'

    Sarah K. Burris

    Liz Cheney (ABC screengrab)

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) appeared on "The View" Wednesday to talk about her book and debate politics with the co-hosts.

The conversation began with her saying she's been moved by the reception she's gotten from the rest of the country.

"Because, I think, the challenges that I describe in the book and the challenges that we face, you know, they're ones that I think people across the political spectrum, with the exception of some in the Republican Party, really recognize how grave this threat is."

Co-host Joy Behar cited Cheney's comment that the country is "sleepwalking into a dictatorship." She asked why so many people are still on Donald Trump's side.

"I think part of it is because what he's saying is so horrible, and in a way we've become numb," Cheney began. "And I also think that all of us, as Americans, we've become accustomed to sort of being able to rely on our republic surviving, and so it can become very difficult.

"I hear people on the right saying, 'Oh, you're catastrophizing and exaggerating this threat.' When I said sleepwalking into a dictatorship, it's not really understanding and recognizing how dangerous it would be. For example, to have a president who was unwilling to enforce the rulings of the courts. He was just simply saying that if I don't agree with the court, I'll ignore those rulings. That's the end of the constitutional republic."

Ana Navarro said that there are a lot of Republicans who talk tough but then refuse to back it up with action. She asked Cheney what happened to the conservative ideas she was raised on and how the GOP had strayed so far. She also asked if the GOP could be salvaged.

"Well, I think that, first of all, we don't know. Nobody has voted yet, so we don't know for sure who the nominees are going to be on each side," Cheney said. Donald Trump is currently leading by a considerable amount in Iowa and other early primary states and is favored to be the Republican nominee.

ALSO READ: Judgment year has arrived: Will America pass her greatest test yet or will she fail?

"I think that the Republican Party itself is clearly so caught up in this cult of personality that it's very hard to imagine that the party can survive. I think increasingly it's clear that once we get through 2024, we're going to have to have something else, something new. I believe the country has to have a party that's based on conservative principles and values — where we can engage with the Democrats on substance and on policy," said Cheney.

Alyssa Farah Griffin asked about the House Republicans and noted that she's fearful what happened on Jan. 6 could happen again with some of the same people in charge who were willing to throw out the Constitution.

Cheney made it clear that it is "really important for everybody who is watching to understand that [Speaker] Mike Johnson's (R-LA) argument when he objected to the electoral votes was that he, Mike Johnson, has the authority because he believes that the Constitution was violated in these states. Forget about the fact that he completely ignored the fact that the allegations that were being made had already been rejected by the courts."

She confessed concern after watching Johnson.

He was "ignoring the rulings of the court and ignoring the votes had been certified by governors in all those states, ignoring the law, ignoring the Constitution and making the assertion members of Congress can simply decide they're going to throw out the votes of tens of millions Americans and install the person they want to be president," said Cheney.

"That's why I say as someone who's been a lifelong Republican — Republicans cannot be in the majority in the House of Representatives come Jan. 2025. It's so, so important, and I think that people across the country have to recognize we have to vote for people who believe in the constitution and reject election deniers."

The only people who give an ant fart what Liz Cheney thinks or says are desperate despicables, when Liz says something in line with the current talking points.

Which explains why a former conservative gets air time by advocating for "destroying democracy to save it".

Arrest affidavits for Jayson Boebert detail 2 different incidents with police, including one with U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado
    [IMG]
    By Jennifer McRae

    Updated on: January 10, 2024 / 5:23 PM MST / CBS Colorado

The arrest affidavits for Jayson Boebert reveal details about two separate incidents with police just a few days apart. The first incident happened just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 6 at a restaurant in Silt, Colorado with his ex-wife Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert.

The second incident happened about 1 a.m. on Jan. 9 at a residence outside Silt involving his 18-year-old son.

The arrest affidavit from the incident at the restaurant on Jan. 6 is for charges including disorderly conduct, third-degree trespass and obstruction of a peace officer. According to the affidavit, Jayson Boebert and his ex-wife were at The Miner's Claim restaurant located at 740 Main Street in Silt when a call was placed to dispatch about "domestic violence abuse." One of the callers was Lauren Boebert and the dispatcher heard the female say, "I just touched your nose" and the male was heard saying, "She punched me in the face."

According to the affidavit, Lauren Boebert told the responding officer that she was having a conversation with her ex-husband when the topic turned to their new partners and that's when things got heated and they started to argue. That's when Lauren Boebert said she placed her finger on his nose to "end the conversation" and he called 911 to report "domestic abuse."

Lauren Boebert told the officer that Jayson Boebert had much more to drink than she had, according to details released in the arrest affidavit. They had a drink before dinner at their old residence before going to the restaurant where "they had been trying to reconcile and get on good terms." She told the officer that she believed Jayson was hurt and was trying to make her suffer after the divorce. Lauren Boebert told the officer that after Jayson had three drinks of tequila at their old residence things became tense and he had "come at her" and she pushed him away and said, "Don't touch me, like do not touch me." She told the officer that their 14-year-old son witnessed the incident.

In the arrest affidavit, officers said that Jayson Boebert had failed to remain on the patio of the restaurant where officers requested he stay while they talked to Lauren Boebert. Officers tried to get him to step outside away from the crowded restaurant when he told officers, "No, I won't do it" and "She punched me in the face I ain't doing anything." Jayson told officers "he had been punched in the face at the house and then had been punched in the face at the restaurant."

Officers said that he was drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage while they were talking to him and he continued "to fail to cooperate with officers' attempts to speak with him." The arrest affidavit also details several attempts by the manager of the restaurant and officers to get Jayson Boebert to leave, to no avail. He also continued to yell at officers, according to the court documents, even after he was removed from the restaurant. The document states that Jayson Boebert was asked no less than eight times over a 6-minute period to leave the restaurant, not by the manager, but by law enforcement.

Also detailed in the arrest affidavit, a half-hour after officers were called to the restaurant, Jayson Boebert continued to yell at officers from outside. The sober person who told police that they would give him a ride home was observed "physically pushing him" on the sidewalk away from the restaurant while he continued to fail to cooperate with officers.

He is facing three charges related to that incident; disorderly conduct, third-degree trespass and obstruction of a peace officer. The Silt Police Department announced on Wednesday afternoon that Lauren Boebert has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

In the second incident on Jan. 9, officers were called to a residence outside of Silt just after 1 a.m. on reports of a disturbance. According to the arrest affidavit, Lauren and Jayson Boebert's adult son called police because his father, Jayson Boebert, threw his phone across the house and pushed him to the ground. Jayson Boebert also had a rifle.

The court documents detail the events leading up to police being called. Boebert's adult son told police that he and another person were lying in bed while the baby was lying in a laundry basket full of clothes. Jayson Boebert was at the house and his son said he hit his legs, asking why the baby was in a laundry basket. Boebert's son said that Jayson kept trying to grab his phone and that Jayson was under the influence of alcohol because "he was clumsy and dropped the phone several times" and that "he was only clumsy and when he drank alcohol" and that he had slurred speech. Once Jayson Boebert grabbed the phone, he threw it down the stairs and when his son got up off the bed, Jayson shoved him and that's when a physical altercation between the two began.

According to the arrest affidavit, Boebert's son said that the manager of the Black Bear Bar & Grill was there and attempted to break up the fight. He told police that Jayson pushed the manager away and that's when Jayson put his thumb in his mouth and he was afraid he would try to pull out his tooth. When he got his phone back, he told police that he called his mom, Lauren Boebert and that she advised him to call authorities. When he was on the phone with dispatch, that's when he saw that Jayson Boebert had grabbed a rifle. Apparently, there were many firearms in the residence and he was unable to say what type of rifle it was.

When the second officer arrived on the scene, the manager of the Black Bear Bar & Grill said she was dropping off Jayson Boebert at the house and said that she hadn't observed an altercation between the father and son. The manager explained to the officer that she would offer to drive patrons home after they had been at the bar after closing. She was allowed to leave the property at that time.

According to the arrest affidavit, that same officer saw Boebert's son and others inside a truck leaving the property. That's when he told the officer that the only person left inside the residence was Jayson Boebert. Officers determined that since he was the only one left at the property that he was not a safety concern for anyone else at that point. Everyone else involved relocated to the Silt Police Department.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jayson Boebert for prohibited use of weapons, harassment and assault in the third degree. He was booked into the Garfield County Jail and posted bond.

Silt is about 175 miles west of Denver.

New George Soros-backed, Democratic PAC aims to turn Texas blue

    Jan. 12, 2024

"New George Soros-backed, Democratic PAC aims to turn Texas blue" was first published by The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit, nonpartisan media organization that informs Texans — and engages with them — about public policy, politics, government and statewide issues.

A new group, run by alums of Beto O’Rourke’s 2022 campaign and funded by Democratic megadonor George Soros, has emerged this election cycle to take on the age-old challenge of turning Texas blue.

Texas Majority PAC has kept a relatively low profile since forming over a year ago in the wake of the 2022 election. But it raised $1.25 million through last year, and campaign finance reports due Tuesday are expected to show how the group — and Soros — have been spreading their money around the state.

Working with the PAC, Soros made made six-figure donations to three county parties — Dallas, Cameron and Hidalgo — and a few other groups that have a regional focus, according to figures first shared with The Texas Tribune.

The contributions are intended to help the entities register, contact and turn out voters “on a scale never seen before, year after year, in the key regions of our state,” the PAC’s deputy executive director, Katherine Fischer, said in a statement.

“We need millions of more dollars and hundreds of more full-time staff to do this,” Fischer said. “Texas Majority PAC works with partners across the state to create the conditions that will make flipping the state possible.”

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is up for reelection in 2024, and the Democratic president, Joe Biden, will be on the ballot in a traditionally red state that he only lost by 6 percentage points four years ago.

Texas Majority PAC was registered with the Texas Ethics Commission in December 2022. It was founded by Fischer, who was organizing director for O’Rourke’s gubernatorial campaign; Jason Lee, who was O’Rourke’s deputy campaign manager; and Crystal Zermeño, a former longtime staffer for the Texas Organizing Project.

The PAC has already disclosed raising $852,000 through June of last year, most of it from the Soros-funded Democracy PAC II.

The PAC represents the latest in a long line of groups who have promised to mobilize more Democratic voters in Texas, a mission shared by the state Democratic Party. Both the PAC and party publicly say they welcome each other’s help, though there have been signs of tension privately as Democrats begin another critical election year.

The Messenger reported in October that the party expressed concern about the potential for “programmatic fracture and duplication of effort.”

The PAC suggests its focus is more regional than that of the state party. Fischer said the group is “helping to build party infrastructure at the regional level, because the various regions of our state are distinct and therefore require different strategies.”

That is reflected in the county recipients of its funding so far and organizations including the Texas Organizing Project, which is active in Bexar, Dallas and Harris counties; First Tuesday PAC, which works in Harris County, and CTX Votes PAC, which is based in the Austin area.

The size of funding already is a boon to county parties that, even in major Democratic strongholds, are not used to seeing six-figure checks.

“[The] overall investment is a game-changer for not only us, but for county parties throughout the state,” said Kardal Coleman, the chair of the Dallas County Democratic Party, which received $200,000 from the PAC.

In Cameron County, party chair Jared Hockema said the funding his party has received — and expects to receive — is “more than we’ve ever had available to us.” The money, at least $100,000 so far, has made it possible for the party to hire a full-time staffer, open a permanent office and even do some get-out-the-vote efforts targeted at low-propensity voters in the November 2023 constitutional amendment election.

Most of the contributions have been made in Soros’ name but in coordination with the PAC. Some of those Soros donations have already been disclosed due to various campaign finance deadlines, like the donations he gave to the Cameron County party last year.

Gov. Greg Abbott and other Republicans have already cited the Soros donations in fundraising emails to warn that the New York billionaire — a favorite GOP boogeyman — is trying to turn Texas blue. Hockema said he is not concerned about the GOP using Soros as a rallying cry, adding that the Cameron County Democrats are “proud to have his support.”

“George Soros is a person who knows what’s at stake in the election we face,” Hockema said, adding that Soros, a Holocaust survivor, knows about confronting the “specter of authoritarianism and fascism.”

Plus, Hockema said, Republicans relied on plenty of big out-of-state donors when they made an aggressive drive to turn South Texas red in 2022.

In a statement for this story, the state party said it “welcomes any new investments and efforts that collectively achieve the ambitious goals of keeping Joe Biden in the White House, sending Ted Cruz packing and electing more Texas Democrats up and down the ballot.”

“With a state as big as Texas there is no time or dollar to waste, and we’re ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work,” said Monique Alcala, executive director for the Texas Democratic Party.

Michelle Tremillo, the co-executive director of the Texas Organizing Project, likened the PAC’s mission to what has happened in states like Georgia, Arizona and Virginia, where Democratic breakthroughs, she said, “did not happen overnight.” The group’s funding, she said, has allowed TOP to plan with more certainty for its 200-canvasser program this fall.

“When you are making an investment for a long term, you can measure growth in voter participation and it isn’t necessarily about, did our candidate win?” she said. “This is about becoming a voter on a regular basis.”

Gee I wonder why. Let me highlight a few things. You end up getting proven a raving hypocrite on your praise Jesus family valises. Get divorced. Get thrown out of a theater for vaping and playing fumblypeg with a bar owner who puts on Drag Shows at his bar.. See the handwriting on the wall you might not get re=elected in your district so you bail to another one.

    And then

So you and your ex start drinking at your old house. It almost turns physical. Then you go downtown and drink some more and your are surprised it went bad? Is that what you are telling us? And you want to represent us in Congress?

'Shocked': In-depth report finds mounting rage at Lauren Boebert in new district

Rage is mounting among a shocking amount of District 4 Colorado Republicans who say Rep. Lauren Boebert’s “naked power-seeking” campaign will drive Democrat voters out in droves, a new investigation shows.

The Independent Friday published an extensive analysis on Boebert’s chances of claiming victory in a crowded race where locals and officials from both parties accuse the MAGA firebrand of carpetbagging, abandoning her constituents and behaving very badly at Beetlejuice the musical.

“You might be shocked at how many people are not happy about it,” a local Republican official told the Independent. “This just naked power-seeking behavior to save the seat…doesn’t really sit well.”

The Independent spoke to Republicans in rural towns that favor guns over wifi, determined Democrats looking to mount a local defense, experts on state politics and a cowboy hat-wearing conservative who also hopes to claim the seat Rep. Ken Buck has left up for grabs.

Not everyone knew that the 37-year-old grandmother was kicked out of a musical in September for vaping and groping her date, or that cops were summoned to a Colorado restaurant over claims she’d punched her ex-husband in the face. A police investigation proved otherwise and her ex, Jayson Boebert, has since been arrested on assault charges.

ALSO READ: Judgment year has arrived: Will America pass her greatest test yet or will she fail?

According to Catherine Thurston, who works for a local newspaper in the rural town of Limon, Boebert has a big problem.

“If you’re not going to spend time talking face-to-face with people out here," Thurston told the Independent, "you’re probably not going to get the vote.”

But Colorado State University political science professor Kyle Saunders notes those who don’t know about Boebert’s tabloid antics soon will.

“You can imagine the campaign ads that her opponents are going to run,” he says “It’s going to be dark, grainy footage of her in the [Beetlejuice] theater.”

And those who know Boebert already dislike her record, locals told the outlet.

“I won’t vote for her because of who she is and what she has done,” independent voter Randy Wallace reportedly said.

“She’s a deserter,” competitor State Rep. Richard Holtorf told the Independent. “She’s deserting her people out of political expediency.”

Holtorf says fellow Republicans are angry over Boebert’s perceived lack of respect for government, for her constituents and even for President Joe Biden.

“There’s certain very disruptive things she’s done that are unprofessional and should not be done,” he told the Independent. “The outcries during the State of the [Union] speech — you just don’t do that.”

Even Colorado Democratic Party officials expressed anger at Boebert’s decision to join the race, despite Republicans’ fears it will send voters their way.

“I think the most common phrase that we hear is that she’s a coward," chairperson Shad Murib told the Independent. "That she’s most interested in her social media accounts and not actually getting things done."

One person who appears to enjoy the prospect of Boebert in District 4 is Jerry Sonnenberg, a Logan County commissioner who has served in both his states’ house and senate and is running against her.

“I welcome her to the fourth district,” he said. “I look forward to representing her as her congressman, quite frankly.”

Florida Democrats clinch win in key swing legislative district special election

    Tom Keen (campaign Facebook page).

Florida Democrats scored a win on Tuesday night as aerospace engineer Tom Keen was elected to a battleground state House district in a special election, reported the Orlando Sentinel.

"Keen, who works in the aerospace training and simulation industry, defeated Republican Erika Booth, a teacher and member of the Osceola School Board. Unofficial totals had Keen with 51.3% of the vote to Booth’s 48.7%," reported Steven Lemongello. "The special election for the district in eastern Orange and Osceola counties was triggered when former Republican state Rep. Fred Hawkins resigned last year to become president of South Florida State College in Highlands County."

This district is almost evenly balanced between Democrats and Republicans. It was carried overwhelmingly by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis two years ago, but also backed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

ALSO READ: Trump suggests he will ‘suspend my campaign’ to seemingly dupe supporters out of cash

According to Florida Politics, Keen previously ran for the district in 2022, and lost the nomination by just 57 votes. He then won the nomination for the special election in an upset against two better-funded opponents. He campaigned in part on the GOP's failure to address the homeowners' insurance crisis in Florida.

"The election was considered a bellwether of whether Florida Democrats will be more competitive in 2024 following their blowout loss to Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022, which swept in a GOP supermajority in both houses of the Legislature," reported Lemongello. "Keen canvassed with local Democratic stars U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost and state Rep. Anna Eskamani and launched an ad targeting the GOP on abortion rights."

Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried, the former state Agriculture Secretary and runner-up for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2022, has vowed to reinvigorate the party, which has seen a long string of losses over the last decade. Earlier this year, Florida Democrats scored another small victory with the election of former TV anchor Donna Deegan as mayor of Jacksonville, long one of Florida's more Republican-leaning large cities.

Colorado Republican leader steps down after trying to hide his DUI and gun charges: report

The Republican House Minority Leader of Colorado has resigned from his leadership role following his attempts to cover up criminal charges for DUI and gun possession, reported Axios on Wednesday.

"It is with a heavy heart that I make this decision, but I firmly believe that our caucus is stronger when we stand and fight together for the people of Colorado," said Rep. Michael Lynch in a statement.

"Lynch became minority leader just weeks after being stopped by a State Patrol trooper on Sept. 30, 2022 for speeding at 90 mph in a 75 mph zone on Interstate 25, records show," reported John Frank. "The trooper smelled alcohol on his breath and a test later registered his blood-alcohol level at 0.16 which is double the state's limit. He was also in possession of a gun at the time. Before his arrest, Lynch asked the trooper to call the lobbyist for the State Patrol before reversing himself and asked to 'keep the press out of this,' video of the arrest shows."

ALSO READ: Trump suggests he will 'suspend my campaign' to seemingly dupe supporters out of cash

According to the report, Lynch received 18 months probation in a plea deal in which he admitted to gun possession while drunk and a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired.

Prior to the scandal emerging, Lynch was seen as a significant contender for Colorado's 4th Congressional District, being vacated by Rep. Ken Buck. Also running in that primary is Rep. Lauren Boebert, who previously represented the 3rd District but jumped ship to the other side of the state.

State lawmakers frequently find themselves in headlines for similar incidents. Last year, North Dakota state Rep. Nico Rios faced calls to resign from fellow Republicans after video showed him shouting racial and homophobic slurs at police who pulled him over on suspicion of drunk driving.

Boebert's first debate was a 'clown car crash' as 6 GOP candidates admit arrest records

After leapfrogging to a new district to improve her re-election chances, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) participated in her first GOP debate on Thursday night before the Colorado primary scheduled for March 5.

As both the New York Times and Axios are reporting, it was at times contentious with John Frank of Axios writing that what transpired has all the signs of "a Republican primary that is devolving into a clown-car crash."

According to the reports, Boebert's decision to run in the more GOP-friendly 4th Congressional District was front-and-center in the debate with her rivals for the nomination calling her out as a carpetbagger.

In particular, State Representative Mike Lynch (R), who this week stepped down as the GOP minority leader in the statehouse, fired back at her after she brought up his DUI arrest by asking her, "Can you give the definition of 'carpetbagger' to me?"

With Boebert saying she moved to give her kids a "fresh start," she then added, “And this move is the right move for me and for them.”

According to the Times report, "At one point, candidates were asked to raise their hands if they had ever been arrested. Six of the nine candidates onstage raised their hands, to cheers and applause from the audience. Trent Leisy, a Navy veteran and business owner, high-fived Mr. Lynch and Ms. Boebert while their hands were raised."

The report notes that Boebert admitted to having been arrested only once over "a simple traffic violation that was unpaid," with the Times' Chris Cameron adding, "the local news media have reported at least two additional arrests. In one incident in 2015, Ms. Boebert told police officers who were arresting her that she 'had friends at Fox News' and that the arrest would be national news."

4 takeaways from Lauren Boebert's first debate with GOP challengers

    Sara Wilson, Colorado Newsline

Lauren Boebert for Congress on Facebook.

The crowded pool of Republican candidates for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District met for the first time Thursday as the race to replace outgoing Rep. Ken Buck begins.

It was also the first major forum in which Rep. Lauren Boebert faced her opponents — and her potential voters — as she tries to make the case for her candidacy in a new district across the state from her current one.

“I’m here to earn your support and earn your vote,” Boebert said. “This is not a coronation.”

In the end, Boebert fell short with the crowd, mostly composed of candidates’ family members, staff and people involved with the local Republican party. She got fifth-place among nine candidates in the evening’s straw poll, placing her behind Logan County commissioner and former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, state Rep. Mike Lynch, radio host Deborah Flora and state Rep. Richard Holtorf, in that order.

The race is open this year after Buck announced his retirement late last year. It immediately became a crowded race, and was shaken up even further when Boebert joined in late December. In 2022, Boebert barely held on to her seat when challenged by Democrat Adam Frisch, and this year would likely have been a rematch if she survived a primary challenge. Boebert, citing a desire for a “fresh start” for her family after her divorce, moved into the much more Republican-leaning 4th District.

Whoever wins the Republican primary is all but certain to win in the general election. The district covers the Eastern Plains and includes some communities along the Interstate 25 corridor.

Thursday’s debate was hosted by the Republican Women of Weld at the Fort Lupton Recreation Center, which actually sits in the 8th Congressional District but is 10 miles from the border between the two districts. A debate among the Republicans for the 8th District seat immediately preceded the 4th District debate. State Rep. Gabe Evans beat out Scott James, a Weld County commissioner, and Joe Andujo in a straw poll.

The entire event was streamed on the Republican Women of Weld’s Facebook page.

Colorado’s congressional primaries are on June 25.

Here are four takeaways from the 4th District debate.

Lauren Boebert, Trent Leisy, Deborah Flora, state Rep. Mike Lynch, Chris Phelan, former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, former state Sen. Ted Harvey, Peter Yu, and state Rep. Richard Holtorf. (Sara Wilson/Colorado Newsline)

    Boebert grilled on district switch
As expected, Boebert faced sharp questions about her decision to move into a new congressional district to escape a rematch with Frisch.

“Could you give the definition of carpetbagger?” Lynch asked Boebert.

Flora also asked a similar version of the question and referenced Boebert’s criticism of a Democratic opponent from the 2022 cycle who lived outside of the 3rd Congressional District post-redistricting.

Boebert said she is proud to be Weld County’s “newest resident.”

“My boys and I needed a fresh start. That’s been very public of what home life looked like,” she said. Boebert is newly divorced, and her ex-husband was recently arrested for alleged domestic violence incidents involving her and her son.

“I tried to put it into a very pretty package and bring my ex-husband lots of honor. But since there is nothing private about my personal life, it is out there and my boys need some freedom from what has been going on,” she said.

But in a telling moment, no other candidate said they would support Boebert in the primary if they were not running. Four people said they would support Sonnenberg.

Boebert also argued that by switching districts, it puts Republicans in a stronger position to hold on to the 3rd District. Jeff Hurd, a remaining Republican in that race, has strong backing from establishment members of the party.

Split support for federal abortion ban
The candidates were split on whether they would support an abortion ban at the federal level following the Dobbs v. Jackson Supreme Court decision that vacated the national right to abortion.

Since the decision, states have enacted various laws to restrict or protect abortion access. In Colorado, lawmakers have expanded protections and put protections for reproductive care, including abortion, into state statute. This year, there could be competing ballot measures in the state to either put the right to abortion in the state Constitution or ban it outright. Colorado voters have historically voted against bans.

Holtorf, Lynch, Weld County Council member Trent Leisy, Chris Phelan and Peter Yu all said abortion policy should be left to the states.

“The last thing you want is the federal government running your life. The same way you don’t want the government to tell you to get the vaccine,” Yu said. “Regardless of how heinous you think abortion is, you don’t want the federal government telling you how to live your life.”

Boebert, Flora and former state Sen. Ted Harvey and Sonnenberg said they would vote in favor of national restrictions on abortion.

“Any legislation that comes in front of me to vote on that limits abortion, I will vote in favor of it,” Boebert said.

‘Securing the border’ the top issue
There was wide agreement among the candidates that immigration and border security is a priority. They cited a need to prevent migrants and drug traffickers from crossing the southern border.

“The border is the number one thing we have to get under control right now, primarily because of the flow of fentanyl that we see coming in and killing our citizens,” Lynch said. “Not only do we need to shut the border, but we need to modify and change and make (the laws more strict).”

Sonnenberg called immigration a “humanitarian issue” because of the number of migrants being transported to cities, including Denver, without resources to be safely and adequately housed.

There were fewer concrete ideas about how to handle the millions of undocumented immigrants currently living in the country. Holtorf said there should be a pathway to citizenship through military service or a 10-year period of employment. For Flora, the country needs to “secure the border” and stop funding sanctuary cities before figuring out how to proceed with immigrants already here.

“We always do this backwards. We always talk about how we’re going to reform immigration while the border is open,” she said. “If we do it in the wrong order, it will continue to be an incentive.”

Republican candidates for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District during a debate in Fort Lupton on Jan. 25, 2024, were asked if they had ever been arrested. Raising their hand to indicate “yes” were, from left, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, Trent Leisy, state Rep. Mike Lynch, Chris Phelan, former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg and state Rep. Richard Holtorf. (Screenshot from Republican Women of Weld’s Facebook)

    Arrest records draw crowd laughter
Six of the nine candidates on Thursday raised their hand in response to a question of whether they have been arrested at some point.

That included Boebert, Holtorf, Leisy, Lynch, Phelan and Sonnenberg.

The question was prompted by recent news of Lynch’s 2022 arrest for drunk driving. He stepped down this week as the state House minority leader amid the revelations.

“We need people (in the seat) that understand people are human and make mistakes. It’s not about how you get knocked down and the mistake you make. It’s how you get back on your feet, learn from that and move forward,” Lynch said.

The crowd and candidates laughed during the question, and candidates injected humor into the explanation of their arrests.

“I’ve been arrested twice and every time it was for fighting, because somebody needed a little attitude adjustment,” Holtorf said. “I told my dad both times that I was winning until the cops showed up.”

Boebert said she had been arrested for missing a court date for a driving-related charge, but she did not mention arrests for harassment, disorderly conduct and failure to appear.

Sonnenberg said he was arrested as a 19-year-old for speeding.

Leisy was arrested for a harassment incident involving a child in 2016, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months of unsupervised probation.

Lauren Boebert's dismal straw poll numbers after debate 'drew gasps' from crowd: report

Colorado Republican Lauren Boebert's decision to leapfrog from her district into a neighboring one that is a more conservative-friendly is not going very well, reports Colorado Politics.

On Thursday, the controversial Republican made an appearance at the first public debate held for District Four Republican contenders held in Lupton, Colorado and a straw poll after the debate demonstrated she has some work to do.

Following the debate, which was described as a "clown car crash" after six of the potential nominees —including Boebert — admitted they had been arrested, debate attendees were allowed to cast a vote for their top choice.

As Ernest Luning is reporting, Boebert finished in the "middle of the pack" and the results announcement "drew gasps from the crowd that had just witnessed the Colorado lawmaker face off against eight other Republicans.'

ALSO READ: Marjorie Taylor Greene wants GOP leaders to coronate Trump — right now

According to the report, "... in the decidedly non-scientific survey — Boebert landed in fifth place with just over 10% of the vote, behind three veteran state lawmakers and a former talk radio host who ran last cycle for the U.S. Senate — surprised some in the room but drew shrugs from others, who pointed out that the hall was filled with local Republicans loyal to other candidates who shared the debate stage."

As for the numbers, 117 votes were cast with Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg leading the way with 22 votes, House Minority Leader Mike Lynch receiving 20 votes and Boebert trailing two others with only 12 votes.

Debate organizer Tammy Klein expressed dismay at the voting totals considering the event was sold out.

"It’s very concerning that even when you place a ballot in their hand, they still walk away and leave it on the table," she remarked. "That relates to why voter turnout is so low in Colorado — so many leave their ballots on their counter."

I am not too sure about this straw poll. Most the people there were associated with some of the campaigns. So its probably seriously skewed. But one thing for sure is Boebert is not going to get a cake walk. She has lots of competition and appears to be about as popular as a case of the clap.

Jasmine Crockett Crucifies Lauren Boebert's Showing In Colorado Straw Poll

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) finished a shocking fifth in a Republican straw poll for the new congressional seat she’s seeking ― and the result reverberated through the weekend.

As Boebert’s name continued to trend on X Sunday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) took a shot at the far-right lawmaker.

“Before I go to bed, I thought it would only be fitting to send “thoughts & prayers” to my colleague, Lauren Boebert,” Crockett wrote on the former Twitter. “It’s my understanding that she placed 5th in her first straw poll of the election cycle. Now how many of y’all think BoBo gonna try to convince us that polls don’t matter… of course unless they are trash for Biden & great for Trump!”

In a GOP primary debate on Thursday, Boebert fended off opponents’ claims that she’s a “carpetbagger” after she entered the race in another district for a better chance at winning. Boebert narrowly won the third district in the 2022 election, prompting her reelection shift to the fourth district.

A straw poll conducted afterward indicated she’s potentially in for some rough sledding, however.

Boebert got just 10% of the vote in a fifth-place finish, drawing gasps in the room, Colorado Politics reported.

A casual poll conducted among a reported 117 participants at the hall where the debate took place isn’t exactly political science, but it got the internet buzzing.

The Republicans against Trump X account even went so far as to declare, “She’s finished.”
