Ego-bruised Trump insists to aides he's 'more popular' than Taylor Swift: report

Donald Trump's allies are already preparing a "holy war" against pop superstar Taylor Swift if she endorses President Joe Biden.

Sources familiar with the matter told Rolling Stone the former president's loyalists and other allies assume the singer-songwriter will eventually endorse Biden, as she did in 2020, and that likely move infuriates Trump and has already prompted MAGA culture warriors to whip up conspiracy theories about Swift and her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce.

"Behind the scenes, Trump has reacted to the possibility of Biden and Swift teaming up against him this year not with alarm, but with an instant projection of ego," two sources told Rolling Stone. "In recent weeks, the former president has told people in his orbit that no amount of A-list celebrity endorsements will save Biden. Trump has also privately claimed that he is 'more popular' than Swift is and that he has more committed fans than she does."

A source close to Trump said the ex-president complained that Swift was selected as Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year instead of him, which he reportedly told confidants "obviously" made no sense, and he has been brainstorming with GOP operatives and conservative media figures ways to attack her if she backs Biden.

ALSO READ: Trump goes silent on ‘serious voter fraud’ after long trashing New Hampshire as ‘rigged’

“It would be more fuel thrown on to the culture-war fires,” said an official working on Trump re-election efforts. “Another left-wing celebrity who is part of the Democrat elite telling you what to think.”

Rolling Stone reported that "Trump has been having a popularity contest with Swift in his own head," one of his pollsters told the publication her possible endorsement of Biden would have little impact on the election.

“Since Biden is so weak, they need others to shore up his credibility. Won’t matter [since] his disapproval is driving the race. Voters aren’t fools,” said top Trump pollster John McLaughlin. “Celeb endorsements of Biden are like donating to Nikki Haley. They are a means of virtue signaling. It’s like wearing a medical mask in public after COVID … Celebrities can endorse Biden but it doesn’t lower inflation, stop wars, fix the border, or lower crime. Biden’s job approval still sucks. So Trump is still winning and will win.”

I can't understand the appeal of having this fraud for our president! He just can't let go of petty things that have nothing to do with politics just so he can be king of the mountain. And that is all the time

Roberta Kaplan says Trump threw papers across table at Mar-a-Lago deposition because his legal team agreed to feed her lunch
Kaanita Iyer and Jamie Gangel, CNN
Fri, February 2, 2024 at 5:31 AM MST·4 min read
    2.6k

Attorney Roberta Kaplan said former President Donald Trump threw papers across a table and stormed off during a deposition at Mar-a-Lago after learning that his legal team had agreed to provide her lunch.

Kaplan, who has represented clients in high-profile cases against Trump, including E. Jean Carroll, said on an episode of the “George Conway Explains it All (to Sarah Longwell)” podcast recorded Thursday that she rejected the former president’s request that they work through a lunch break because he believed the deposition was “a waste of my time.”

“And then you could kind of see the wheel spinning in his brain. You could really almost see it,” Kaplan told Republican strategist Sarah Longwell and conservative attorney George Conway, a longtime Trump critic. “And he said, ‘Well, you’re here in Mar-a-Lago. What do you think you’re going to do for lunch? Where are you going to get lunch?’”

Kaplan said she told him that his attorneys had “graciously offered to provide” her team with lunch — a common civil practice between opposing legal teams.

“At which point there was a huge pile of documents, exhibits, sitting in front of him, and he took the pile and he just threw it across the table. And stormed out of the room,” Kaplan shared, adding that Trump specifically yelled at his lawyer Alina Habba for providing them lunch.

“He really yelled at Alina for that. He was so mad at Alina,” she said.

Kaplan continued: “He came back in and he said, ‘Well, how’d you like the lunch?’ And I said, ‘Well, sir, I had a banana. You know, I can never really eat when I’m taking testimony.’ And he said, ‘Well, I told you,’ — it was kind of charming. He said, ‘I told you, I told them to make you really bad sandwiches, but they can’t help themselves here. We have the best sandwiches.’”

Kaplan was deposing Trump at Mar-Lago in a lawsuit alleging the former president was involved with a fraudulent marketing company. A federal judge dismissed the suit last month.

In a separate anecdote, Kaplan detailed the end of the deposition when she was set to leave, saying that Trump told her: “See you next Tuesday” – a phrase that is often used as a derogatory euphemism directed at women.

“We come in the room and I say, ‘I’m done asking questions’ and immediately I hear from the other side, ‘Off the record. Off the record. Off the record.’ So they must have planned it. And he looks at me from across the table and he says, ‘See you next Tuesday,’” she recounted.

Kaplan said that she was initially confused, as their next meeting was set for a Wednesday. “You could tell it was like, it was like a kind of a joke again, like teenage boys would come up with. But again, I wasn’t in on the joke,” she said.

“I wasn’t in on the joke, so I had no idea. Then we get into the car and my colleagues are like, ‘Robbie, do you know what that means?’ And I’m like, ‘No, what are you talking about?’ They tell me and I’m like, oh my God, thank God I didn’t know because had I known, I for sure would have gotten angry. There’s no question I would have gotten angry,” Kaplan said.

CNN has reached out to representatives for Trump and Habba.

Kaplan’s comments come a week after her victory in Carroll’s defamation trial against Trump. A jury awarded Carroll — a former magazine columnist who has alleged Trump raped her in a department store in the mid-1990s and then defamed her when he denied her claim — $83.3 million. Trump is expected to appeal the verdict.

Kaplan also described last week’s verdict as a career-defining moment. When asked which feels better — winning the defamation case against Trump or her successful challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act in 2013 that led to the eventual Supreme Court ruling that cleared the way for same-sex marriage — Kaplan pointed to her recent victory.

“I spent my whole life devoted to the principle that we have a rule of law and we have a judicial system that works,” Kaplan said. “And that’s what makes us a constitutional democracy, that’s — at least until recently — was to be admired worldwide. And it was starting, I mean, it is in times looking like that may not be true.”

But, she added: “This case validated that at least as of now, we still have all that.”

Trump Defends Bud Light While Threatening to Drop List of ‘Woke’ Companies: ‘Anheuser-Busch Is a Great American Brand’

Former President Donald Trump threatened to release a list of “woke” companies on Tuesday while defending Anheuser-Busch, which conservatives pummeled last year over a single Bud Light social media post.

Last spring, Bud Light sent transgender Instagram influencer Dylan Mulvaney a customized can of beer to promote on social media, just as the company had done with other popular social media personalities. As a counterpoint, conservative luminary Kid Rock filmed himself shooting cases of Bud Light with a high-powered rifle.

“Fuck Bud Light,” he opined. “Fuck Anheuser-Busch.”

Conservatives responded by boycotting the product, resulting in a significant decline in sales. Meanwhile, then-presidential candidate Ron DeSantis ordered an investigation into Anheuser-Busch.

Posting on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump called Bud Light’s one-time arrangement with Mulvaney a “mistake,” but said the brand does not belong to a “woke” company:

The Bud Light ad was a mistake of epic proportions, and for that a very big price was paid, but Anheuser-Busch is not a Woke company, but I can give you plenty that are, am building a list, and might just release it for the World to see. Why not, the Radical Left does it viciously to well run, Conservative companies – and people! Very nasty, but it’s the way they play the game! On the other hand, Anheuser-Busch spends $700 Million a year with our GREAT Farmers, employ 65 thousand Americans, of which 1,500 are Veterans, and is a Founding Corporate Partner of Folds of Honor, which provides Scholarships for families of fallen Servicemen & Women. They’ve raised over $30,000,000 and given 44,000 Scholarships. Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that perhaps deserves a Second Chance? What do you think? Perhaps, instead, we should be going after those companies that are looking to DESTROY AMERICA!

Last year wasn’t a total disaster for Bud Light. In October, it returned as the official beer of UFC.

Trump's 'bizarre' new Indiana conspiracy theory has Republicans sounding the alarm

    Matthew Chapman

Former President Donald Trump has turned his anger on the state of Indiana, accusing officials there of conspiring to rig the election to help former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley defeat him — and state officials there are unnerved by it, reported Politico.

Moreover, said the report, they fear this could morph from a "bizarre subplot" of the primary season into a test run for Trump to once again try to obstruct election results — something he did in 2020, which led to multiple criminal indictments.

Essentially, Trump — relying on claims by his close ally in the state, Rep. Jim Banks — has been claiming that Haley does not qualify for the Indiana ballot because she missed the deadline to collect enough signatures. However, he appears to be confused; while the signatures deadline has already passed, the deadline to file the collected signatures comes later, and Haley is reportedly still on track to make that deadline with the required number of signatures.

ALSO READ: 0-for-1,668: Senators extend their streak of never punishing other senators

But Trump continues to claim that the only way Haley makes the ballot is if there is funny business with state officials intervening or breaking the law on her behalf. He's even challenging the validity of the signatures, said the report: "Over the weekend, an attorney for Trump sent a letter, obtained by POLITICO, to Marion County’s Democratic clerk, Kate Sweeney Bell, accusing her of improperly accepting petition signatures for Haley and demanding she preserve all evidence during the certification process."

"The complaints are baseless, elections officials say," reported Adam Wren. "Worse, they and Trump’s opponents warn, with the former president raising alarms even in a state like deep-red Indiana, they look like a test run by Trump and his allies to undermine confidence in the election in November."

“Trump is reinforcing a narrative where the only acceptable outcome is his victory, thus preemptively delegitimizing any electoral defeat,” said Evansville attorney Joshua Claybourn, who has previously served as a delegate to the GOP convention from the state. “It sets the stage for yet another crisis of legitimacy in the November general election.”

“Why put out the effort to challenge the Haley effort ahead of time when the ex-president knows he’s going to win Indiana no matter what?” former state Rep. Mike Murphy told Politico. “The bottom line is he’s completely unhinged. He is literally off his rocker.”

Revealed: Trump caught hobnobbing with 'protege' of George Soros

    Matthew Chapman
    February 8, 2024 9:52PM ET

George Soros fired off an angry op-ed piece opposing Donald Trump (Composite image)

Republicans love to attack George Soros, the left-leaning Hungarian-born Jewish billionaire philanthropist and Holocaust survivor who has contributed to a number of liberal and pro-democracy causes around the world. Often their criticisms stray into anti-Semitism, as well as a guilt-by-association logic where any politician whose projects have received funding from a group supported by Soros are but his puppets.

But ironically, by that logic, former President Donald Trump would have to be controlled by Soros too, reported The Daily Beast.

Soros, wrote Roger Sollenberger, is "like The Dude’s rug in The Big Lebowski — really tying the room together. Just add 'Soros-backed,' and watch it all magically, and antisemitically, come together. For instance, did your favorite ex-president get indicted for allegedly falsifying business records to conceal a hush-money payout to a porn star? There’s a Soros for that. Did a band of your favorite ex-president’s supporters launch a deadly pro-Nazi rally a few months after he was elected? There’s a Soros for that. Was your favorite ex-president’s Supreme Court nominee credibly accused of sexual assault? There’s a Soros for that. Are asylum-seekers attempting to seek refuge in your country, as sanctioned by international law? There’s a Soros for that."

ALSO READ: Alina Habba is persona non grata at her Pennsylvania law school

And yet, Sollenberger reported, "This month, Trump will attend a South Carolina fundraiser co-hosted by the man who literally ran Soros Fund Management for years — a man who has been described as a Soros 'protege,' who amassed billions of dollars for the Soros empire, and who left in 2015 to launch his own investment fund with $2 billion in founding money from none other than George Soros."

The fundraiser in question, Scott Bessent, reportedly "played a central role in building the fortune that has fueled Soros’ political and charitable funding — which, to be sure, has been one of the most influential forces underwriting Democratic politics and liberal policymaking over the last decade, if not the most influential," wrote Sollenberger. Now, he has founded a publishing company called "All Seasons Press," which works on backing Trump and his allies.

Notably, the report added, one right-wing figure who worked with ASP later sued them for fraud upon realizing the founder's ties to Soros.

This is not even the first time Trump has gotten close to people who got their start in Soros' circle. Another such figure, financier Steve Mnuchin, served as Trump's Treasury secretary in his first term.

'Yikes': Internet erupts after 'Dementia Trump' makes several verbal slip-ups at NRA rally

Donald Trump Friday was hit with a stream of criticism for several verbal slip-ups at an event for the NRA in Pennsylvania.

The former president slurred when saying the word "subsidies," said "dino-dollars" instead of "dollars," and even said he doesn't like being frontpage news every time he "said one word a little bit mispronunciation." He also said that three years ago things were great, despite that being when Joe Biden became president, and he claimed twice there were no terror attacks during his tenure as president. He also said that Biden hasn’t spoken in months despite him addressing the press last night.

The flubs drew wide criticism from online onlookers.

Democratic youth activist Harry Sisson, in response to the ex-president's "subsidies" flub, said, "Yikes."

"Trump is slurring his speech again claiming that 'Rich people are given $7,000 subsies.' Uh...subsies?" he asked. "I'm not sure what that is and I don't think anyone else does either. He can't say subsidies properly so he must have dementia. Right, Republicans?"

Regarding the "subsies," former prosecutor Ron Filipkowski said, "Dementia Trump is staring at the teleprompter, pauses to think about it, and still can't say it."

In yet another instance pointed out by the Biden-Harris HQ account on social media, Trump "gets distracted with bizarre story."

"I know all about the marbles. I can tell you every marble," Trump said.

This prompted former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega to say, "Well, he lost his marbles long ago."

Trump also appeared to mistake what day it was, saying, "If I wasn't here, I'd be having a nice Saturday afternoon." He said that, of course, on a Friday. This one was also picked up by Biden-Harris HQ.

"It is Friday night," the account wrote.

"Donald Trump doesn’t even know what day of the week it is. Wow," a "Biden wins" account wrote in reply.

    No, really.
Have any despicables questioned this latest directive from headquarters?
You know, to twirl about every trump misstep and word.
The idea seems to be to show that trump is even more demented and senile than Biden.

Have any despicables thought that one through?
    No?
    Don't you think you should?

I was watching all day yesterday to see if I could get some hint of how the New York House special election was going to go. And I was especially interested in the interviews of voters to see what issues they were most concerned with. And I was surprised to see the majority weren't so much interested in any single issue. What concerned them and what they said they were tired of is all the name calling and insults in politics. And the gridlock. Frustrated that nothing ever seems to get done. And I knew right then the Democrat Tom Suozzi was going to win the election. Because what Traitor Trump has turned the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican party.

Trump's Puzzling New Excuse For Pelosi-Haley Blunder Includes A Whole New Gaffe
    Ben Blanchet
Wed, February 14, 2024 at 11:07 PM MST·3 min read
    967

Donald Trump claimed he “purposely” meant to “interpose” the names of former House speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley during his Jan. 6 mix-up last month.

“It’s very hard to be sarcastic when I interpose. I’m not a Nicki fan and I’m not a Pelosi fan. And when I purposely interpose names they said, ‘He didn’t know Pelosi from Nikki from tricky Nikki, tricky Dicky,’” the former president said at a South Carolina rally Wednesday.

“I interpose and they make a big deal out of it. I said, ‘No, no, I think they both stink, they have something in common, they both stink.’ And remember this, when I make a statement like that about Nikki that means she will never be running for vice president.”

Trump’s remarks arrived weeks after he named Haley ― his GOP rival, a former United Nations ambassador and ex-South Carolina governor ― as the person “in charge of security” during the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection.

The House speaker cannot direct the National Guard and isn’t in charge of security at the Capitol.

Haley, in response, questioned the mental fitness of the current GOP front-runner –– who has repeatedly bragged about his performance on a cognitive test –– and suggested he’s “not as sharp as” he used to be.

Critics on X were quick to mock the former president, pointing out that he didn’t accurately use the word “interpose.”

'What about Eric?' Trump appears to forget one of his kids during victory speech

Donald Trump beat Nikki Haley in South Carolina's GOP primary on Saturday, but it was his victory speech that was the talk of the town.

The former president's speech stood out to many political onlookers at first because of his introduction of Lindsey Graham, a U.S. senator from the state who was relentlessly booed by the crowd of Trump's own supporters. Trump repeatedly tried to get the crowd to quiet down, but they just kept booing. There was no obvious reason for this, other than perhaps that Trump had said Graham was further to the "left" than him on most political issues.

But Trump also drew attention for when he appeared to forget he had another son, Eric, when reading off a list of his kids' names. He listed all of his children and their spouses, but left out Eric and Lara Trump's names.

"First off, my family," Trump says, appearing to read off of a note card at the podium. "Melania, Barron, Don. Jr., Kimberly, Ivanka and Jared, Tiffany and Michael, so supportive. So supportive and we really appreciate it and love them. We have a great family."

Republican accountability group American Bridge 21st Century said forgetting Eric and his wife, Lara Trump, was a sign that Trump is "unwell."

Democratic strategist Jesse Ferguson wrote, "Trump was reading off note cards and still forgot one of his kids."

Social media user @realXanderXjork had this to say:

"Damn Trump….what about Eric and Lara? Are you embarrassed about them or is it your dementia kicking in?"

Political strategist Sarah Reese Jones posted video of the moment, saying, "Donald Trump forgets Eric and Lara Trump when thanking his family in South Carolina."

Video shows 32 times Trump 'babbled nonsense' or 'got confused' in just 1 day

A video compilation purports to show 32 times Donald Trump forgot words, mispronounced or mixed up names, got confused, or just "babbled insane nonsense" during his two campaign speeches on Saturday.

The video, posted to social media by attorney and MeidasTouch editor-in-chief Ron Filipkowski, lasts under 3 minutes, and has gotten 1.3 million views in under 30 hours.

“'Anybody that loves me, I like them' - a reminder of how easy it is to play or manipulate Trump and how, per his own words, he has zero principles or values and operates on a purely narcissistic, self-serving basis," observed journalist Mehdi Hasan, quoting Trump from the video.

"And yet again the media will be primarily focused on Biden’s age," lamented pollster and MSNBC political analyst Cornell Belcher. "As if Biden simply being old with no credible ethics issues is somehow equivalent to Trump’s clear cognitive problems along with 90+ criminal counts & an attempt to overthrow an election. Make it make sense."

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Monday did a segment on what it called Trump's "public gaffes."

"The guy just kept getting confused," co-host Joe Scarborough told viewers as he introduced video.

"We see it more and more," Scarborough added, calling it "pathetic and sad."

    "He looks lost."

'Does he not see that?' MSNBC guest alarmed by signs of Trump's physical deterioration

Following a discussion over the media's obsession with President Joe Biden's age while ignoring Donald Trump's increasing failure to speak coherently, one of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" regulars noted the former president's alarming physical deterioration and the fact that he seems to be unaware of it.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough began the discussion by directing his comments to former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) by pointing out, "You know, newspapers will go, 'You know, Donald Trump is old, too,' but they focus on Joe Biden more. Well, yeah! They don't talk about all the crazy things Donald Trump says because they've gotten so used to it."

"Donald Trump has been saying strange, bizarre things for such a long time," Scarborough continued. "When he stammers and staggers across the stage like he did this weekend talking about his good friend Mr. Argentina when he is still confusing Barack Obama for Joe Biden, you know, when he confused Nikki Haley for [Nancy Pelosi], you know, you go on and on and on. Nothing from the media, it's just very minimal, that's obviously shaping the polls."

"Yeah, it really has been way out of proportion," the former Democratic U.S. senator agreed. "I'm speaking as somebody who affectionately has known for a long time that Joe Biden does stuff sometimes that is confusing and he's been this way always. Part of it is his stutter, part of it is the way he speaks."

"But look at Trump," she said, changing gears, "You know, one thing that stuck out to me lately with Donald Trump, there is not a vainer man on the planet than Donald Trump. So his deterioration, I think, is reflected in his appearance."

"What stuck out to me, I know this seems like a little thing, somebody on his last hair dye job gave him bright orange," she observed. "I mean, it's not the normal color he usually dyes his hair. And he looked in the mirror and didn't notice the difference. I mean, if you look at the clips you've run, if you look at what you're showing now is older and his hair color is not as dramatic, but it is literally carrot orange right now. Does he not see that?"

'Is everybody around him, is it the emperor wears no clothes?" she asked. "Is everybody around him saying, 'Hey, listen, guy, your hair is on fire in terms of this fluorescent orange color.' To me, that reflects his mental decline as much as anything. Clearly, he's looking in the mirror and doesn't realize that something is amiss."

Donald Trump may have rage-posted his way through President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address on Truth Social, but his social media site crashed for many before Biden even entered the House chamber, with technical issues lingering for at least an hour before and into his remarks.

Beginning shortly before 9 p.m. EST Thursday, outages numbered in the thousands, according to Downdetector. The outages peaked an hour later and then began to slowly resume back to normal, according to the monitor.

Around the same time, users on X reported not being able to access Trump’s feed, with some—including former Trump White House Press Secretary Alyssa Farah Griffin—mocking him for it.

“Trump said he’d be live fact-checking Biden’s SOTU but Truth Social appears to be down. Sad!” she wrote on X.

On Fox News, meanwhile, anchor Bret Baier—who had read out loud some of Trump’s posts—invited him to just call in.

“If the former president wants to call in,” Baier said, likely speaking directly to Trump through the screen, “we’re happy to put him [on] instead of just reading Truth Social posts.”

Those who were able to see what Trump had to say were likely not surprised, as his posts were largely negative reactions to people he saw on the broadcast.

“Thankfully, we don’t have to be looking at RINO Mitt Romney much longer!” Trump wrote of the retiring Utah senator who has opposed Trump’s 2024 candidacy.

Trump, who incited a mob of supporters that broke into the Capitol and House chamber on Jan. 6, 2021, then accused Biden of being “very disrespectful to our country” because his address in that same chamber didn’t begin promptly at 9 p.m.

He also predictably took aim at Biden during his speech, insisting the president was “angry and crazy” and that “the words are not flowing smoothly out of his mouth!”

'Who is Poten?' The most ridiculed Trump 'misfires' from Georgia rally

    David McAfee
    March 9, 2024 10:04PM ET

Donald Trump after his Georgia rally on Saturday night was ridiculed on social media, where users suggested he was "misfiring" and praising Russian leader "Poten."

Trump, who began the rally headline event by mocking President Joe Biden's lifelong documented stutter, reportedly put himself at risk for another defamation suit after he called columnist E. Jean Carroll's story of him sexually assaulting her "crazy." But some people were more focused on his verbal mishaps.

In one instance on Saturday, Trump appears to say, "I know Poten. I know him very well. There was no way he was going in to Ukraine."

"Who is Poten?" wrote user @Lisa59064711 afterward.

A popular account called "Spiro's Ghost" wrote, "Yes. Dementia J. Trump just said 'Poten' instead of Putin because his brain is misfiring constantly."

In a second instance, Trump appears to say that Biden is weaponizing the Department of Justice against his top political "appointment, which is me."

Actress Heather Thomas wrote, "Both the brain and the hair gone to baby poo."

Nikki Haley supporter Kyle Sweeter added Saturday, "Trump has just as many gaffes as Biden- if not more. Both of these guys are roughly 80 years old. One is a threat to democracy. You don't have to like Biden to vote against Trump."

A third instance was when Trump was talking about the raid on Mar-a-Lago.

"They raided my house in Florida, Mar-a-Lago, they raided. With no raid. They had no reason to do so," he said during the election speech.

    Spiro's Ghost chimed in again.

"Dementia J. Trump is a disaster with his brain again tonight."

Podcaster Bob Cesca said, "Many glitches tonight at a rally that started off with Trump mocking Joe Biden's stutter."
