Ironically, this popped up in the news today.

Lauren Boebert Gets Good News Out of Colorado (msn.com)
Lauren Boebert Gets Good News Out of Colorado
    Story by James Bickerton

Lauren Boebert won a major victory on Friday when she secured the most support out of those vying to be the Republican candidate for the House seat representing Colorado's 4th Congressional District in November at an assembly meeting.

In total, the Donald Trump-supporting firebrand picked up 215 votes, just over 40 percent of the total, at the event in Pueblo placing her substantially ahead of the other candidates, according to Colorado Public Radio.

Boebert currently serves in the House as representative for Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, but in December she announced she instead wanted to stand for the state's more reliably conservative 4th District later this year.

To get on the Colorado Republican primary ballot for a House seat, a candidate is required to either get a minimum of 30 percent of the vote at a congressional district assembly, or to get a certain number of valid signatures to a petition and at least 10 percent at the assembly.

Colorado state Representative Richard Holtorf and ex-state Senator Jerry Sonnenberg, who are also vying to represent the 4th congressional district in the House, got 81 and 96 votes respectively. This is over 10 percent of the total, meaning they will be on the primary ballot if their petitions of signatures are accepted as valid.

Speaking after the results were announced, Boebert said: "I'm so honored today to have these numbers showing that the efforts are working.

"I don't have to argue my record. I have that track record of doing exactly what I say. You know where I stand on the issues. And it's not a wonder to you what I will do as your representative in Colorado's 4th district."

The result means her name will be placed first on the GOP ballot in June.

Newsweek contacted representatives of Boebert's 2024 House campaign by email on Saturday at 5:30 a.m. ET. This article will be updated if they decide to comment.

Boebert announced her bid to move to represent 4th congressional district after its then incumbent, Republican Rep. Ken Buck, announced he wouldn't seek reelection. Buck then stepped down in March meaning a special election will take place in June between Democrat Trisha Calvarese and Republican Greg Lopez, who is expected to stand as a placeholder meaning he doesn't plan to vie for the seat again in November.

The number of signatures required for candidates going down this route is either 1,500 or 10 percent of the number cast in the last general election for the seat, whichever is lowest.

Former state Senator Ted Harvey who is also seeking to get on the Republican ballot received 135 votes on Friday, short of the 159 he needed to get 30 percent of the vote. This effectively knocks him out of the race.

On April 1, Ike McCorkle, a Democrat who is running in his party's primary for the 4th congressional district in November, published a poll his campaign commissioned from Gravis Marketing. This put him on 38 percent of the vote against 31 percent for Boebert in a hypothetical matchup between the two for the district.

Let me be clear about something. I do not judge Boebert on her past, her divorce, her family troubles, or her personal behavior.

I judge Boebert for her glaring hypocrisy. A fake Christian that tries to preach to others while she practices the same behaviors she condemns others for. I judge Boebert for her stupid ignorance (two different things) that is on constant display. And I judge Boenert for not caring about anything except her own will to power and being willing to do anything to keep her seat in Congress. And I judge Boebert for being a treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republican that has turned traitor against every great thing the United States of America has ever stood for.

And posting news stories about Boebert is not judging her. Those are factual stories and people can make up their own minds about them. But they are also something Boebeert brought on herself for her outrageous hypocrisy.

'They had to cut her off?': CNN panel busts out laughing at reported drunk Boebert antics

"CNN This Morning" host Kasie Hunt had her panel laughing on Friday morning after CNN's Melania Zanaon reported that an inebriated Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) had to be cut off by servers at a GOP function where she kept bothering Donald Trump.

As Zanona reported, Boebert was singled out for being "overserved" alcoholic beverages at the event while seated at the same table with the former president and also had to be reined in by his security detail.

"It was a Republican event, Donald Trump was headlining, and the server who was coming to bring alcohol refused to bring her any more alcohol because they thought that she was overserved," Zanona recalled. "She also was trying to take pictures with Donald Trump and eventually Donald Trump's security detail stepped in and asked her to stop doing that, according to those who witnessed it that I spoke to."

ALSO READ: Lauren Boebert’s high school has canceled the congresswoman

"Now, Donald Trump still did endorse her, so clearly he wasn't maybe that bothered by this incident, but a Trump endorsement alone is not going to be enough to put her over the finish line. So she is facing a very tough challenge in that June primary," she added.

"So just to be clear, basically," a smirking Hunt interjected, "She went to a fundraiser in New York City with Donald Trump, got so drunk they had to cut her off? And then tried to take repeated pictures with Trump, and then they had to tell her, 'Hey lady like tone it down,' according to the witnesses?"

As the panelists laughed, Zanona replied, "This is how it went down and I want to remind viewers here that this came a few months after she got in trouble and had to apologize for her conduct at a Denver theater where she was watching a performance, a musical performance of Beetlejuice, she got kicked out for vaping and being loud, and there's security footage of it."

"There was much more than vaping," Hunt added to more laughter.

    Meds. Gotta be the meds.

After all, posting a propaganda piece about Boebert's high school failing to honor her cause, you know, drop out, that isn't judging Boebert for (*checks notes) her past, her divorce, her family troubles, or her personal behavior.

Nossirree. That post about Boebert dropping out of high school and her high school "canceling" her, that's pure judging Boebert for being a hypocrite, a fake christian, her stupid ignorance, etc. etc.

Either american hater really does think we're that fucking stupid, or he needs to check his meds cause they're fucked up.

Either way, american hater displays just how fucked up he is.

'Didn't you get tossed out?' Lauren Boebert mocked for bragging about Trump 'house party'

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R-CO) on Sunday was hit with a barrage of ridicule after she bragged about a Donald Trump "house party" where he says he raised $50 million in one night.

Boebert, who has faced numerous scandals including being kicked out of a musical for inappropriate behavior that was caught on the security footage for the theater, took to social media on Sunday to make a claim about Trump's fundraising versus Joe Biden's numbers. It's worth noting that Biden and Democrats brought in more than $90 million in March and have more than double what Trump has, according to the New York Times' reporting.

But Boebert wanted to focus on one specific fundraiser.

ALSO READ: 11 ways Trump doesn’t become president

"It took Biden two former Presidents, Lizzo and Stephen Colbert to raise $25,000,000 in one night," Boebert said on her social media. "Trump threw a house party with no headliners and raised $50,000,000." That $50 million has not yet been verified.

She then added, "It’s pretty clear where the momentum is."

But those responding to Boebert's claims didn't have her back.

"The Biden-Harris campaign raised $90 million in March. Trump raised $65 million. The Biden-Harris Campaign has $192 million cash-on-hand. Trump has $93 million on hand," one user, @ChidiNwatu, wrote in response. "It's pretty clear the only momentum Trump is seeing is your hands."

@GOPisComplicit pointed to the problems Boebert and her family have had with the law.

"Momentum is here with your crime family," the account wrote on X. "Mug shots for everyone."

Another user, @Konola4Colorado, noted the apparent coordinated messaging effort after Trump's recent "party."

"LOL Now I know that you just repeat anything you are told," they wrote. "Trump's daughter in law posted the exact same thing. Did they slip a note under your door so that you would know what you say?"

@Rekat1, who identifies as a veteran on the platform, said, "How would you know, didn’t you get tossed out? Wait, that was another party for Trump!"

Indeed, Raw Story recently reported that multiple sources told CNN's Melanie Zanona that Boebert appeared to be so inebriated at a fundraiser late last year that servers refused to give her any additional booze.

GOP Senate hopeful suggests nursing home residents are too close to death to vote

Wisconsin Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde expressed doubts about the 2020 election results by arguing nursing home residents are too close to death to vote, newly released audio shows.

Hovde made the comments on the conservative Guy Benson Show, in audio obtained by the Heartland Signal, when he was asked where he stood on former President Donald Trump's ongoing conspiracy theories that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

"I'm not going to spend my time talking about 2020," said Hovde. "Do I believe the election was stolen? No, but did things happen in that election that were very troublesome? Absolutely, and I can point them out right here in Wisconsin. We had Zuckerbucks come into Democratic cities to push out — working with cities to push out Democratic votes."

"Zuckerbucks" is a derogatory term Republican activists have used for private grants by businesses and philanthropists to help local officials run their elections — so called because of the insinuation that wealthy individuals like Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg use them to influence turnout or election procedures in favor of candidates or policies they want. Several states, including Wisconsin, have recently enacted laws prohibiting or limiting this practice.

ALSO READ: MAGA congressional candidate: Michelle Obama might be a man, bring back Aunt Jemima

Hovde continued, "We had nursing homes, where the sheriff of Racine investigated, where you had 100 percent voting in nursing homes. Well, if you're in a nursing home, you only have a five, six-month life expectancy. Almost nobody in a nursing home is in a point to vote."

Trump and his supporters have made similar claims in the past, that vote tallies in nursing homes were suspiciously high. This has been repeatedly debunked — voter turnout from nursing homes was nowhere hear 100 percent and not out of the ordinary.

Hovde, a banking and real estate development executive, has already faced a number of controversies in his bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. He came under scrutiny over a multi-decade-long fight to tear down a beloved family bar in Madison, and has said that in his ideal world, alcohol wouldn't be legal for commercial sale.

First on CNN: Key Democratic group pours $186 million in battle for House and preps for ‘trench warfare’ with GOP

Editor’s Note: For more on the high-stakes fight for the House, watch “Inside Politics Sunday with Manu Raju” at 8 a.m. ET and 11 a.m. ET.

House Democrats are aiming for just four more seats to win back the majority this fall – and their big-spending outside group is prepared to spend more than it ever has to pick them up.

House Majority PAC, the super PAC linked to Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, is reserving $146 million in an initial round of TV ads and $40 million in digital advertising in nearly 60 media markets across the country as Democrats prepare for a furious battle with Republicans over the limited number of House races that will determine the next majority.

The details of their ad strategy, first shared with CNN, provide the clearest roadmap yet on how Democrats view their path to the majority. The group’s leaders said most of their money would be focused on pickup opportunities – including in 16 districts that Joe Biden carried in 2020 now occupied by Republicans – but also the seats that Democrats have to defend, including five in districts that leaving the page." data-wf-tooltip-position="bottom" data-wf-reset-every="90">Donald Trump won.

But the group, whose 2024 investment surpasses the $102 million initially reserved in ads in the 2022 cycle and the $41 million in the 2020 cycle, said it was making its largest investment ever to flood key districts with an aggressive ad campaign, including attacks against Republicans on abortion and the collapse of a bipartisan border security deal.

The group’s leader said the campaign would also target key voting blocs – such as Hispanic, Asian American and Black voters – as well as swing voters put off by Trump and the chaos in the House.

“We need four seats to win back the majority. That’s it,” Mike Smith, president of House Majority PAC, told CNN. “It’s a very tough four seats. Every single one of those is going to be trench warfare. We’re going have to invest a lot of money, hence the $186 million, but there’s a clear path to doing it.”

The number, Smith said, could grow as more money is spent later in the election cycle in these key races, arguing the initial investment amounts to “laying down the marker.” The bulk of the money will be spent to flip seats in New York and California, a path Smith said “100%” represented the clearest way to the majority. But he cited other pickup opportunities in Arizona, Michigan and even Montana for the seat held by Republican Rep. Ryan Zinke. (Some ad reservations could be canceled at a later date, which party committees and candidates often do as they reassess their priorities.)

No matter what happens, Smith said, the next majority is likely to be narrow given that gerrymandered districts have created fewer swing seats in the chamber.

“With redistricting, it has narrowed the battlefield in terms of what it looks like,” Smith said. “I would anticipate that it will be a relatively narrow majority. … The universe has gotten smaller in terms of the most competitive seats, for sure.”

As part of the ad buy, House Majority PAC plans to drop $18 million in the Los Angeles media market, partly aimed at GOP Reps. Young Kim, Michelle Steel, Ken Calvert and Mike Garcia while defending a seat left open by Democratic Rep. Katie Porter’s decision not to run for reelection. The group reserved $4.2 million in the Fresno media market that could be used against GOP Reps. John Duarte and David Valadao, who could be hit with another $1.7 million reserved in the market of Bakersfield, California.

The group is also planning to drop another $16.1 million in New York City, some of which could hit Reps. Mike Lawler, Anthony D’Esposito, Nick LaLota and New Jersey’s Tom Kean Jr. In upstate New York, where the group has roughly $5 million reserved, GOP Reps. Marc Molinaro and Brandon Williams are expected to be targeted.

Among the numerous other targets: roughly $2 million likely to knock off Rep. Jen Kiggans of Virginia, $5.8 million at David Schweikert of Arizona and $2.4 million at Juan Ciscomani of Arizona. About $2 million is slated for Omaha, Nebraska, a sign that Rep. Don Bacon is about to be pummeled by attacks. The group has reserved $5.7 million in Philadelphia, which could target Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and defend Democratic Rep. Susan Wild. Another $10 million could go after GOP Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer of Oregon and defend Democratic Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of nearby Washington state.

The Democratic super PAC is the first major House committee to announce its plans for the fall advertising campaign. The Congressional Leadership Fund, the super PAC that was linked to ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy and now tied to Speaker Mike Johnson, is still finalizing its ad reservations for the fall.

But the GOP super PAC, which — along with its affiliated outside group has raised $142 million for the cycle so far — is confident that Republicans can hang onto the majority.

“We have incredibly strong Republican incumbents in the toughest races, far better recruits, and a political environment that seems to favor Republicans,” Dan Conston, president of the Congressional Leadership Fund, told CNN. “If the resources are there, we will hold the majority this fall.”

House races are often dictated by the top of the ticket in a presidential election year. And the weakness of both Trump and Biden presents challenges for both parties. In particular, for Democrats in districts Trump won, Biden could drag them down even further given his sagging poll numbers.

But Smith said he’s not worried about Biden’s numbers, pointing to Democrats’ success in recent election cycles while contending that his presence at the top of the ticket will be a “value added.”

“His approval ratings were very similar to what they were before, and we were able to outperform,” Smith said.

Biden’s candidacy could be tricky for the five Democrats in Trump districts – in Alaska, Maine, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington state – and four open seats being vacated by retiring Democrats in Michigan, California and Virginia.

Among the big bucks that the group plans to spend to defend those seats: roughly $3.7 million to help Rep. Jared Golden in Maine, $5.4 million in part to defend Marcy Kaptur in Ohio and $4.1 million to help Matt Cartwright in Pennsylvania. Nothing has been reserved in Alaska to help Mary Peltola, but Smith said each media market has a different set of circumstances dictating when to place an ad buy, suggesting that Alaska would be on the group’s list for later in the cycle.

And the group is prioritizing making early ad reservations in states with key Senate races and presidential battlegrounds since ad time will be scarce in the fall.

For instance, Zinke’s seat in Montana is one that Democrats believe could be in play given the high-profile Senate race there between Sen. Jon Tester and Republican Tim Sheehy. The group has reserved roughly $4.2 million in Montana media markets.

“Montana-01 is a seat that I think that we can actually pick up,” Smith said. “It’s a seat that Sen. Tester, probably the best senator that’s ever existed in the state of Montana, is going to turn out Democratic voters there. We’re investing already at this point in terms of registering more Democrats.”

One thing Democrats are prepared for: a furious GOP effort to hit them on immigration and Biden’s handling of the border. Yet they saw a recent victory in a New York bellwether seat – once occupied by George Santos – that they picked up after the Democratic candidate, Tom Suozzi, was pummeled on immigration. Suozzi sought to capitalize on the GOP decision to kill a border security deal in the Senate.

“It mitigates any type of opportunity that Republicans theoretically would have had, and the fact that they refused to take up the bill is just basically a political gift,” Smith said.

Yeah and you told us Trump would never be a presidential candidate in 2024. You also boasted for months in 2022 about a "big red wave."

You've also expressed support for Nimrata Haley.

And just like that, repukes care about polls, eh

Republican candidate hangs up on reporter when asked why she isn't paying campaign staff

Former New York Police Department officer Alison Esposito recently launched a Republican campaign for New York's 18th Congressional District, taking on Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan. But she doesn't appear to have reported paying any of her campaign staff — and she isn't keen on discussing why.

According to Timmy Facciola of the Times Union, "her most recently available campaign finance records [show] Esposito did not pay anyone on her campaign in the three months after launching it last year. From October through December, she does not have any payroll entries in the itemized disbursements she filed with the Federal Election Commission, where candidates must report how they spend campaign funds."

Esposito has been endorsed by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and made several campaign appearances with incumbent House Republicans.

ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why keeping Trump from the White House is all that matters

"Ben Weiner, Esposito’s campaign manager, accepted his position in October, according to a post on his LinkedIn page, and fielded press inquiries from the Times Union that month. Esposito’s campaign also has a communications director, Clay Sutton," said the report, noting that "It is not known if Esposito’s staff is being paid now."

When the Times Union called Esposito to ask her to explain this, the report continued, she asked the reporter to "send her communications team another inquiry and then hung up. Her team did not respond to additional inquiries."

This comes as New York Republicans are facing some struggles in their efforts to hold the seats they won in the state in 2022, where they performed far better than Republicans around most of the country. Long Island Rep. George Santos was expelled in a bipartisan vote following a criminal indictment and blistering ethics report, leading to a special election which saw former Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi reclaim the seat. Santos is now threatening to run as an independent in a neighboring district to sabotage Rep. Nick LaLota, another Republican lawmaker who voted for his expulsion.

Lauren Boebert's son whines about lawyer 'prices' in 'crime spree' case: 'Been kinda hard'

Rep. Lauren Boebert's (R-CO) son, Tyler, appeared in court on Thursday following his arrest for a crime spree that included committing I.D. theft, explaining he was stressed for cash to pay a private attorney, according to Westword.

Boebert, 19, who faces felonies for criminal possession of identity documents, informed the judge of his money woes.

"We are working to hire an attorney, but it's just been kind of hard with the prices," Tyler told 9th Judicial District Judge John Neiley. "Worst case scenario, if we can't get something figured out with the lawyer then we're going to apply for a public defender or whatever works best for me."

ALSO READ: Revealed: What government officials privately shared about Trump not disclosing finances

Neiley encouraged Boebert to go with a public defender until he can afford another esquire.

"I always think it's a good idea to maybe do both, because if you qualify, you have options," he said, according to Westword. "We can set this off for a little bit of time for you to make that decision."

Meantime, Boebert won some compliments from Neiley for his all-black suit he wore.

"Thank you for the attire," Neiley said, according to the outlet. "I appreciate it when people dress for court."

Cops in Rifle, Colorado, contend that Boebert robbed a woman with a brain tumor who said that she only had $75 "left to her name."

Overall, police say that Boebert and three underage friends were caught on surveillance camera breaking into people's cars, taking any credit cards they had inside, and using them to go on a shopping spree.

The charges allege Boebert is the leader of a crime ring trio, along with one underage female with whom Boebert "supposedly made a sex tape."

Boebert was easily identified in surveillance footage due to the fact that he was wearing a sweatshirt that featured the logo of Shooter's Grill, the restaurant that his mother once owned with her estranged husband before becoming a congresswoman.

Boebert is expected back in court in early May.

Lauren Boebert's fundraising took a huge plunge after she switched districts

    • Lauren Boebert just had her worst fundraising quarter in years.

    • She's facing a tough primary and accusations of carpetbagging after moving to a redder district.

Rep. Lauren Boebert just had her worst fundraising quarter in years, bringing in roughly $462,000 in the first three months of 2024.

It was the Colorado Republican's first full quarter since she announced in late December that she would be switching congressional districts. After winning by less than 600 votes in 2022, Boebert moved across the state to run in a more conservative district vacated by Rep. Ken Buck.

To put Boebert's poor fundraising quarter into perspective: It was a significant drop from the roughly $540,000 that she raised in the last 3 months of 2023, and far below the nearly $764,000 haul that she brought in this time last year. In 2021 and 2022, she had several quarters where she raised between $800,000 and $1 million.

Boebert's campaign filings show that she's continued to receive financial support from her Freedom Caucus colleagues since switching districts, including donations ranging between $1,000 and $3,300 from campaign accounts tied to Reps. Mary Miller of Illinois, Ronny Jackson of Texas, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Jim Jordan of Ohio, and Andy Biggs of Arizona.

She also received a $400 personal donation from George Santos, the scandal-plagued ex-lawmaker who was expelled from the House in December and has since been making a living off of Cameo videos.

Before he resigned his seat, Buck quipped that Boebert made Santos "look like a saint."

While former President Donald Trump and House GOP leadership have endorsed Boebert, she faces a tough race in her new district.

She has been dogged during the campaign by accusations of "carpetbagging," referring to instances when politicians run for offices far from where they live for political advantage.

Several GOP establishment figures have lined up behind Jerry Sonnenberg, a former state lawmaker who has emphasized his low-key style over Boebert's bombast.

The congresswoman has also faced numerous personal scandals in the last year, the most prominent incident being her ejection from a musical production of "Beetlejuice" in a Denver theatre in September.

Liz Truss backs Donald Trump to win US presidential election

Former PM Liz Truss says she hopes Donald Trump wins the next US election
Liz Truss has endorsed Donald Trump to win this year's US presidential election, saying the "world was safer" when he was in the White House.

The former prime minister said the world was "on the cusp of very, very strong conflict" and needed "a strong America more than ever".

Her comments came as the first of Mr Trump's four criminal trials began.

Ms Truss was speaking ahead of the publication of her book - her account of her time in Number 10.

Her brief stint in power made her the shortest-serving prime minister in Britain's history.

The former PM, who recently spoke at a pro-Trump conference in the US, said the West's "opponents feared the Trump presidency more" than the Democrats under Joe Biden.

Speaking to the BBC, Ms Truss said Mr Trump was more aggressive towards Iran and China. She also praised Mr Trump's support for Ukraine, approving the sale of anti-tank Javelin missiles, despite his Republican allies' recent attempts to block military aid to the country.

"I'm not saying that I agree with absolutely everything he's ever said," she said.

But she added: "I do agree that under Donald Trump when he was president of the United States, the world was safer.

"I want to work with fellow conservatives to take on what I believe is a real threat of Western society and civilization being undermined by left-wing extreme ideas."

This includes supporting Nigel Farage "becoming an MP" if he were to re-join the Conservative party, she told the BBC.

Speaking to the Newscast podcast, Ms Truss said the founder of the political parties Ukip and Reform UK "believes in conservative values - I think it's a shame he's not in the Conservative Party".

Liz Truss gave a speech at the pro-Trump Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), this year.
In her interview, Ms Truss argued she was forced out of office after 49 days by powerful establishment figures.

Ms Truss stood down in October 2022, after Tory MPs revolted against her when a series of U-turns on her economic plan sapped her authority.

She denied her fall from office was humiliating, saying: "It was difficult. Absolutely. Was it humiliating? I wouldn't use that word actually."

She said she had gone into the job with the intention of changing things, and hadn't succeeded.

She added: "But is that really worse than not trying in the first place? Is it worse than being dishonest and claiming I was going to try and do things and then not do them? Is it worse than being in Number 10 and not doing anything? I don't think so personally, which maybe I think differently from other people."

    Economic warnings
Ms Truss said her and Kwasi Kwarteng's tax-cutting plan to promote growth, was "undermined by organisations" like the Bank of England and the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR).

Civil servants had also failed to warn her "the UK economy was uniquely exposed" to so-called Liability Driven Investments (LDIs) - which invest in government bonds because they are usually so stable.

The Bank of England was forced to start buying back government bonds after these LDIs came close to collapse - which in turn could have forced them to rush to sell other assets.

She said: "I have spent many months getting the blame, people saying it's all my fault, people criticising me, trashing me.

"Yet the Bank of England had a very, very significant role in what happened. The Office of Budget Responsibility had a very significant role in what happened.

"I haven't seen them get anything like the level of scrutiny or questions that I've got."

Challenged on whether she was casting about for someone to blame, she said, "I'm not saying I'm perfect", but argued that she didn't have the whole picture when making decisions.

A Bank of England spokesperson said: "The Bank has already set out its response to the LDI crisis in full, including to Parliament, and has nothing more to add."

Ms Truss argued for the removal of institutions such as the OBR, and for Andrew Bailey stepping down as the governor of the Bank of England.

Divesting of power from democratically elected officials has left minsters "impotent", Ms Truss said, adding: "Politicians have ended up having responsibility without power, and quangocrats have ended up having power without responsibility and more job security - as I found out."

Ms Truss's prognosis is a complete overhaul of the political system, including "abolishing quite a lot of things".

International organisation like the United Nations (UN), which she says no longer has "a purpose", are also on the chopping block.

"The UN Security Council as it's currently constituted with both China and Russia on is not keeping the world safe.

"At present, it has been very ineffective at dealing with international situations, in fact, positively damaging."

And she said that the Conservative party was currently split "between those people like me, who think we need fundamental institutional change in Britain, that our institutions have been captured by leftist ideas" and others "not prepared to go that far".

She said: "We need a sufficient number of MPs who understand what the problem is, and are prepared to vote to abolish the quangos."

The full interview is available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds.
