I am curious on everybody's views on what age a person should lose their

virginity at (youngest) and what age they should have lost it by..

 

depends on the individuals maturity level ...

 

About 15-17 sounds about right to me...

I don't really think of there as being an age you "should have" lost it by... something about the idea of giving people a deadline for losing their virginity just really rubs me up the wrong way.

If you're still a virgin at 40 (like the movie) there may be something wrong

To me, there is no real age. So long as you understand the possible consequences of what you're doing, in other words maturity, then I say it's fine.

Though, I will be a bit hypocritical and say that no kids under their teens years should partake in sexual activity...

 

I don't think you can really generalize about it...I lost mine pretty young, and look how well-adjusted I turned out!

I'll be doing my best to counsel my children to keep it together until they're 16, at least. But I'll be neither surprised nor overly distraught if they do the deed sooner. My main concern is that they be safe.

As for the question of how old is too old, I think people who get into their twenties without having sex are at risk of developing some serious neuroses and hangups.

Exactly. I know 14 year olds who could handle a basic sexual relationship, and I know 30 year olds who can't tie their damn shoes, let alone handle a sexual relationship. Age has nothing to do with it - it is entirely based on one's emotional maturity, IMO.

Well, once again, there's the question of definitions.

Let's say two kids at age 12 "explore" with each other and to see what it's all about get naked and pretty much fumble around until they have achieved intercourse for five seconds. Is that losing one's virginity?

 

Remember a cherry is a fruit. If you keep it too long is goes bad.
If you are still a virgin by your mid 20s it is time to seek professional help.

 

Well, I didn't get that right either -- he definitely wasn't the "right person". But your response indicates that there's some kind of mystique, or symbolic importance, about the act of losing one's virginity, and I dispute that. For me, it was just something to be gotten on with. Plenty of time to find the "right person" later.
