He again opens his big month with another racist remark. This time Imus talked about Adam (Pacman) Jones of the Dallas Cowboys. Imus needs to be taken off the radio and TV for good this time....

You're not taking away his freedom by firing him from your radio network. He can say any racist thing he wants while sitting on his front porch in his rocking chair.

 

I've not heard the comments. This is a non-story outside of the US. Beyond what I've read on here I have no knowledge of Imus at all.

What I would ask, though, is why he questioned the guys colour in the first place if he isn't attaching some significance to it.

If he is using that fact to denigrate the man he is a racist.

If, as Alabamajim suggests, he was using his colour to talk him up, then he's a racist.

If he sees the guy's skin colour or ethnic background as irrelevent to whatever the argument was about in the first place then he's not a racist.

And what does 'there you go' mean? What it means is that Imus was saying "of course he was black" as in only a black person would ever do such a thing. Lets put it in a way you can maybe understand better.

You're from Alabama, I assume. I mean, you're name is Alabama Jim so I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that you are from and/or currently live in the Heart of Dixie. I also don't think that it's much of a stretch to say that you have some affinity for your state, that's why you included it in your title.

So let us suppose that Imus was discussing a man, color unknown, who was guilty of fucking all the dogs in his neighborhood, some of them so damaged internally that they had to be put down, some of them not found in time and which died a horrible death, screaming in agony. If Imus said "what state was he from" and the person on the other end said "Alabama" and then Imus replied with "oh, there you go", saying in effect that OF COURSE he's from Alabama because only people from Alabama would do something so vile, would you be happy with that remark?

Or lets put it another way. Lets say it's a Canadian and a Brit talking about some horrible crime that's been committed and the Canuck says to the Brit, "What country was he from?" And the Brit says "America" and the Canuck says "oh, there you go." As if that's all the explanation one needs. How would you feel then?

I don't have the clip handy, but my take on it was that Imus was saying the fact that Jones is a black man explains everything, at least to him.

 

I seen it on Fox (yes shake I watch Fox) It just get to me how quick people want to label someone on the smallest of things, I haven't listen to Imus in years, but there no sense in attacking him without more proof..
