I do not see how anyone can call a suicide bomber who targets civilians a freedom fighter.

It all depends on how the person is portrayed such as reading about it in history books or digging for the truth. Anything can be portrayed as good or bad, its just a matter of finding out the truth yourself....

 

We will agree that the members of the French resistance during the Second World War were freedom fighters. I am unaware that they randomly targeted German civilians.

As long as there are suicide bombers that think they are freedom fighters is all that matters, they will continue regardless of what others label them.

They killed, in quite brutal ways, quite a number of French civilians who were suspected of being, in some way, colaborators. There was no trial and no proof of guilt. These victims were, according to the prevailing law in France at the time, unprovoked murders. The German occupiers and the French administration working with them, certainly would have classified them as Terrorists.

The bombing campaigns carried out by the allies did kill large numbers of random German civilians. Was that, then, terrorism by your definition? I know it's not but it shows how muddy these waters can be.

If you take the attittude that "If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem" to it's (il)logical conclusion then every western civilian is a "legitimate" target for Islamic fundamentallists, just as any Muslim is a "legitimate" target for any Zionist terrorist, or any employee of the US government is a "legitimate" target for many "Anti-new-world-order" militiamen.

I think the term "Random" takes on a very different meaning depending on what you think you are fighting for, and who you define your enemy as.

 

They did not blow up nightclubs full of Germans the way Palestinian suicide bombers blow up nightclubs full of Israelis.
