I'm not faultless on this and don't use spellchecking as much as I probably should but some of the spelling is awful. I was particularly amused by the assertions of the "right to bare arms" a while back by more than one poster in a discussion about gun control.

For the most part I try to let it go on here and just enjoy the thinking behind the post, rather than the grammar and syntax and spelling.

Sometimes it's just best to ignore it and move on though. It can get painful.

Well, when something makes me go "huh?" I try to make a humorous comment on it. Other than that I just ignore it.

 

I'm not going to throw stones, because I make a few errors here and there. Some are typos, and some I'm not sure where they come from. None of us are perfect and that's something I always try to remember.

I was quoting "Professor Higgins" in the play and yes he is English.
It really is an excellent musical hope you rent it, you'd be glad you did.

Oh no, I get it, just saying that that attitude does exist and is very prevelant. I wasn't harping on you at all, don't worry. It always annoys me when I run in to one of those types who tell me that I'm totally backwards. I'm not saying that's you, just that the song reminded me of it.

An english lesson........and I thought I'd left skule! (That's intentional by the way) :-D

 

I spent a bit of time standing behind my ex's kids.....a) when they were doing their homework and ....b) when they were 'Talking' to their mates on msn on the computer!

I was pretty horrified to see this mess of truncated, semi-literate garbage filtering across into their schoolwork!

Now, these were pretty bright kids, but on paper, they could barely string a sentence together.

I always tried to help them with their work esp. punctuation and grammar, but was repeatedly told that the teachers..."didn't care about all that stuff."

Do you know what? They were right....I saw the most appalling work being returned to these kids without a red pen in sight, just a comment at the bottom.

So, what chance has the English language got?

I only come on here when im totally cabbaged after a bad day at work and they want me to engage my brain, no chance :mrgreen:

 

I want to know where our OP is. I hate it when someone starts a thread and then never follows up or comments. Especially after asking for people's opinions on his/her own views. Where you be?
