Well, I have both a convertible (a Mini Cooper S), and a full size SUV (a Nissan Armada), and I will say this. Living in MN I need a winter truck and something that can go up north. But when the sun's out, I take the Mini. The neccessity to have two (or more) cars up here is huge. Often, because of the winters, normal cars just won't cut it October through March, my advice is buy a nice car, and then for the winter get a cheap $1-2k vehicle or at least something you won't become attached to.

what's so odd about multiple cars? Alot of families here have multiple cars.

Yeah, Alaska's very much the same way. Most people just give up the idea of owning two vehicles, though, because of the moose. Why bother with a smaller car when the chances of surviving in it are bad?
