For me, it was a groundbreaking phenomenon that poked cinematic standards in the eye. A real form of rebellion for young filmgoers who had their childhood filled with censorship and a whitewashed imagery of morality. It exposed a lot of Hollywood hypocrisy. It was the "Aristocrats" joke elongated.

The movie's creator, Richard O'Brien (yes he also played Riff Raff, a handyman) had no idea this would happen. His intention was to make a small statement and have some fun.

Coincidentally, and the reason I have responded to so many quotes here, is that the scariest thing I have ever seen on screen, was Dark City, which also featured Richard O'Brien as the eerie Mr Hand. This film was so reminiscent of recurrent nightmares my imagination had conjured for me almost 3 decades before this film was released.
