I shelf books in a library and comics, for some reason, are shelved in adult NON-fiction. I didn't know that Dilbert or Yugioh were true stories.

I hope I don't dream when I am gone. An eternal dream that I can't wake up from is one of the things reassuring me that life is worth it. I've had dreams where I can't wake up from, and I'm screaming out "Wake me!" in the dream in hopes that I can talk in my sleep and someone around might give me a little nudge.

 

I read tons of comics the best Green Arrow story has to be The Longbow Hunters it was 3 part graphic novel that came out in the early 80's.

 

Dilbert may be truer than many true stories.

 

Thanks for the wrap Tyler. I keep meaning to check Ex Machina and Umbrella Academy out as I fell behind for a while way back, just never started on them, and have a huge 'to be read' pile already. You're enthusiasm about them, piled on top of the gushing praise I've heard others profess for them might just get me to catch up and start in on them in trade. More hours in the day need to be created for pornography and comic books alone :excited:

 

im a comic fan, i probably have a variety, the count would be less than 10.
id like to start to collect them but im not that geeky.
i love to doodle comic art, im kinda good. but i dunno if i wanna do anythin with it since i dont think im good enough. kinda intimidated.

 

I'm not sure if I'd prefer to keep the outside world stuck on it's impression of comic readers/collectors as 'geeky' or risk ruining the exclusivity of it and inform them that there's no geekage required.

Seriously, there is some good stuff out there. What kinds of things are you into? I'm sure Jack or Tyler or I could turn you on to something up your alley, or at least show you where to look.

As for not being good enough, practice makes perfect. Don't be intimidated. I used to be a horrible artist- not much natural talent, but I've gotten quite a bit better through practice and determination, and would be happy to check your stuff out and give you pointers.

 

i didnt mean to sound like i was being insultin. i would love to own more comics, i get really intimidated when i walk in a store and they look at me like i dont belong there. i seriously get stared at, and i just wanna run. i dont even know what to look for, i just feel flustered because im so nervous in there. i would order them online but i dont have a credit card or bank account (what am i? five?) my friends been cool enough to get the stuff for me herself.
my favorite kinda comics are the ones that look like the xmen or batman, really cool bad ass art. i love that. thats how i wish i can draw, i think i can get there if i really apply myself and if i knew different programs on the com. it would be really cool if you critiqued my work. i feel like my friends sugarcoat it a lil bit, so to get a strangers unbiased opinion would be awesome/daunting (heh). ill upload some stuff on here when i can.
some comics i like include jthm, strangers in paradise, xmen, batman, dykes to watch out for, gun street girl, army of darkness, lady death, mutts, calvin and hobbes
but im very open to whatever you would suggest id like, or what you think is cool for me to know about anyway.

 

Not insulting at all. I can understand you might be intimidated by going into the shops. They are usually sausage fests, and some of the one's I've been in indeed descended upon girls I've brought in, or that have walked in on their own, with the stares and the cheesy pick-ups, or whatever. I was going to suggest the online thing. I'm sure there are sites out there that accept money orders or paypal, or other forms of payment if you don't like the physical stores.

Your style and emotion is great from what I can tell so far! It looks like you've got some pizazz to the way you put down lines. I suspect it would'nt take a superhuman effort to get you working in the funny books. Many are in need of more female talent and input to be honest.

Haha, Johnny The Homicidal Maniac is cool. I was actually going to recommend Strangers in Paradise as a good starting point for a female reader. It looks like you read some good stuff so far. If you look through this thread your on, and this other one here, Tyler and I have listed some things we read. I'll also see if there's anything I can dig up you might be interested in.

 

Oh, and if you like Terry Moore (SIP), he has a new title out called Echo.

 

DC also has a whole line of books under their "MINX" publishing line that are aimed directly at a female audience. To assume that you would like these just because you are a woman would be presumptuous and unfair though, so I'm just putting the info out there. I haven't read any of the books personally. I know a ton of women who dig Fables, Y: The Last Man, and many other titles from the Vertigo line as much as I do. Elfquest is another that comes to mind that I've had an unbalanced number of girls tell me they liked. Also, Courtney Crumrin. More to come as I think about it...

At work we pass around Dilbert comics from a guy's Dilbert Calendar every day. Yes, everyone agrees that Dilbert is pretty realistic, for the most part...
A few years ago, Dilbert was made into an animated Cartoon for a season.

 

It is rude of them to stare. Perhaps the reason they stare at you is because they are in awe of your beauty? There aren't many beautiful women that hang out at comic stores. Don't worry about the stares, once they get used to you as a regular, they won't stare so much.

I've been to an anime con twice. There probably is a comic con in my city, but I don't really read comics much anymore. I just watch comics when they are in video.
