I think Shake answered this first part both preemptively and satisfactory.

One of my aunts has really bad battered wife syndrome, she spent decades with a man that forced all types of crazy sex acts on her, including facial deification and moving in his mistress. She kept quite about this for years because they are both deeply religious, he was deacon of their church, and he brainwashed her into the idea that, as is specified in the bible, the man is the head of the house and it is the woman's job to obey him.

 

It wasn't hard, I knew exactly where he was going with it.

Atheism has nothing to do with it, it's the simple truth. When you said "Atheists and Muslims have a propensity for being murderously intolerant as well," it was not hard to guess which atheists you were referring to. It's a very common stick used to try and beat atheists with as if to be an atheist means you're okay with mass slaughter, but it's completely false.

Wow ... first of all, Shake, did you ever think you'd make an argument against Christianity that was so compelling it made a shitty Christian strive to be a better Christian? Or .. maybe a worse Christian, since he's probably going farther to the right ... I've confused myself.

And to anyone who supposedly hasn't heard these things about rape being said "in the real world," have you ever known a woman (or a man, for that matter) who was raped? The first thing the cops ask - "Were you drinking? Were you flirting? Why were you alone with him? Why did you go into his bedroom?" All of these questions translate to = you brought this on yourself, you have no right to make your own choices, if you flirt with a man you deserve to be raped, if you go home with him you automatically sign off on all your human rights.

And it doesn't stop there. In the courtroom, they try to prove a woman is a slut, or a man is gay (the old "oh my god a faggot i gotta rape/kill it" defense). Even when the victim is telling the truth, the rapist gets what he deserves, the victim is still stigmatized (not to mention traumatized).

If someone has fucked eight billion people, it still doesn't mean they're allowed to be raped.

 

The woman who says she was raped, is accusing someone of a crime. Of course they have to ask her these questions. A woman can't just accuse a guy of rape and they take her word for it. It does happen that women lie about it. I really don't think they are saying that they deserved it or brought it on, but trying to make sure that she was actually raped and not that she regretted sleeping with him and decided to say it was rape after the fact. Remember, innocent until proven guilty.

 

Right, but there's a difference between asking her questions about what happened, or details about what the guy looked like (although the majority of women know their attackers), but when she's asked things like "Were you flirting with him?" - If she says yes, then does that mean he was allowed to rape her? If she says no, does that mean she's a true victim? Questions like that put the blame on the victim, as if she could have done something differently and avoided being raped altogether.

We do this with a lot of other crimes, not just rape. But with rape, it's more extreme. In a courtroom, a defense lawyer might try to discredit an alleged victim of attempted murder, but not by saying, "But you didn't wear a turtleneck! Of course he wanted to strangle you!"

 

You're reading into their questions what you want and assuming their motives or their thoughts. Think about it from a different perspective. Say your brother or father or some man in your life that you really care about has been accused of rape. Would you not want the police to ask these questions? To make damn sure what she's saying is the truth? Would you not want the lawyer to defend him?

 

My mother keeps telling me that if only I'd come back to Christ I'd be another Saul. I'm even more compelling in person.

Then again, I'm usually leaning for a different kind of response.
