I hear the McCain campaign is reconsidering dragging Obama's association with Rev. Wright into their dialog. I think the pundits are correct. This would be another example of McCain being erratic and flop flopping. But what they are being too politically correct to say is if we thought terrorist, Muslim, socialist and kill him sounded bad, just wait until they hear Nigger coming from their supporters. If Colin Powell's endorsement is the nail in McCain's coffin, exposing the GOP's racism will put the whole party underground.

 

It will not only be a blight on the Republicans but the rest of the world will see this party as something that is intolerant and not to be trusted which will make future relations with the states difficult.

 

That's an interesting point. Our country's reputation is already seriously tarnished in other parts of the world. And now...will a country founded on the principle that all men are created equal, a country that nevertheless allowed slavery to exist for decades, and institutionalized racial discrimination for decades after that, now elect a president whose supporters orchestrated a blatantly racist campaign?

I shudder to think about it.

 

Kim, there seems to be a lot of people that think you (USA) can survive without the rest of the world but as the Credit Crisis has shown you are one of or the major player. There must be a hell of a lot of your citizens that are isolationists or just have no interest in the rest of the planet.

I think that's a fair description of the attitudes of many Americans, and it's an attitude that was actively promoted by George Bush. Conservatives in the U.S. are always ranting against the UN, which they view as undermining America's freedom of action. There's a doctrine making the rounds known as "American Exceptionalism"...it's proponents tell each other: "We're the greatest country on Earth, and we should be able to do whatever we please. We have the economic power and particularly the military might to do it, and we should use it."

You'd think they would have noticed that our overseas military adventures haven't gone all that well since 1945, and that we're economically at the mercy of a very unstable Middle East, not to mention China holding most of our foreign debt.

 

I love it! Now, if we can just get that Truecoat from Jerry Lundegard....

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Gov. Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, including to events where they were not invited, and later amended expense reports to specify that they were on official business.

The charges included costs for hotel and commercial flights for three daughters to join Palin to watch their father in a snowmobile race, and a trip to New York, where the governor attended a five-hour conference and stayed with 17-year-old Bristol for five days and four nights in a luxury hotel.

In all, Palin has charged the state $21,012 for her three daughters' 64 one-way and 12 round-trip commercial flights since she took office in December 2006. In some other cases, she has charged the state for hotel rooms for the girls.

Alaska law does not specifically address expenses for a governor's children. The law allows for payment of expenses for anyone conducting official state business.
As governor, Palin justified having the state pay for the travel of her daughters — Bristol, 17; Willow, 14; and Piper, 7 — by noting on travel forms that the girls had been invited to attend or participate in events on the governor's schedule.

But some organizers of these events said they were surprised when the Palin children showed up uninvited, or said they agreed to a request by the governor to allow the children to attend.
