The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

Look, fellas, I did not say that everyone who voted for George Bush is stupid (although I sometimes wonder....)

No, what I object to is that some of George Bush's supporters act like being stupid is a virtue to be admired in our leaders.

That assertion would have been more impressive if you had given examples of great minds with poor vocabularies, and shallow minds with great vocabularies.

I worship superior intelligence. Barack Obama got into Columbia and Harvard and excelled there. That is impressive to me.

The only reason John McCain got into Annapolis was the fact that his father and grand father were admirals. Once in, he did poorly.

Sarah Palin is an obvious air head. I expect her handlers to come forward with more stories of how stupid and ignorant she is.

When Republicans complain about "intellectual elitism" they acknowledge that Democrat politicians are usually more intelligent and better educated than Republican politicians.

Nice points John , I could not disagree more with every single one of your points. Obama represents intelligence? Show me. I have seen no proof of this. A military family is always something to be ashamed of, I know.Who paid for Obama to attend all of these schools? Do a little research, will ya? Who cares that he did poorly, who are you to judge? where is your report card? Sarah Palin has more experience in her little pinky than Obama has had in his entire life. Remember she is The Governor of Alaska with quite the management responsibilities other than Obama hanging out with scum and furthering his omen of demise. Democrats are nothing more than socialists, nazis or communists in disguise. Make no mistake John, I respect your opinion but I had to say something when such a smart man has shit running down his mouth. Here is a napkin for you. peace Dkr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o54kbnGibLI

A military family is nothing to be ashamed of, but the fact remains that John McCain would not have been admitted to Annapolis without his family connections. Family connections also got George W. Bush into Yale. Barack Obama got into Columbia and Harvard on his own.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Obama earned scholarships to attend those schools. I did find this:
"Obama entered Harvard Law School in late 1988. At the end of his first year, he was selected, based on his grades and a writing competition, as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.[24] In February 1990, in his second year, he was elected president of the Law Review, a full-time volunteer position functioning as editor-in-chief and supervising the Law Review's staff of eighty editors."

Obama's intelligence has already been shown in many ways from his education, to his rise, from the books he's written to the way he managed his campaign. To try and deny that is stupid, but then considering the source; go figure.

Thanks for the compliment DL. And I think you have identified three aspects of working intelligence. The ability to communicate, the ability to find and synthesize information, and the ability to apply that information to real world situations. I do not claim all those for myself but have always thought they are the hallmark of many of the people on this forum.

But here's what you overlook. It's what you say that counts not how you say it. And the example you use of adults who are intelligent in one area but unable to communicate in other areas represents more of the limited personality.

Here's something I found out in the newspaper business. If someone is really intelligent and really knows their job, it does not matter what the subject is. They can take astro physics and break it down into terms and explanations anyone can understand.

What is WITH this constant insinuation from the right wing that Obama received some kind of nefarious help with his college expenses? Is diedre implying that Osama bin Laden decided to invest in Obama's higher education, in the hopes that 20 years later he might become president of the U.S. and deliver the Great Satan into his evil clutches?

Occam's Razor applies here...Obama, as a promising student, received financial aid from the colleges he attended. It's likely that his mixed-racial status and economic status didn't hurt him in his efforts to obtain such aid.

I was literally shocked, shocked I tell you, to find out that colleges actually pay more for brains then they do for athletic brawn. When I went back to college I was not all that interested in joining the Honors Program until I found they'd pay me $1,000 a year for it. I also watched an incredibly talented and brilliant girl who was a foreign exchange student turn in an amazing paper of her own research. A week later a professor dropped off a $30,000 scholarship application for a west coast university and told her it was already approved all she had to do was fill it out,

    Your joking right???

Athletes commonly get full scholarship including full room & board plus incidental expenses, this is worth less than $1,000/year???

Athletic scholarship winners at Vanderbilt University receive an annual benefit worth over $75,000.

Please understand that I do not think that it's right to reward athletics over true scholarship, but every NCAA school that has an major athletic program does it.

My thought is that Nelson Rockerfeller was right, when he became governor of NY, he eliminated intercolligate sports at all state universities and college. He felt that scholarship funding should go to deserving students, not student athletes.

Obama's Use of Complete Sentences Stirs Controversy

In the first two weeks since the election, President-elect Barack Obama has broken with a tradition established over the past eight years through his controversial use of complete sentences, political observers say.

Millions of Americans who watched Mr. Obama's appearance on CBS's 60 Minutes on Sunday witnessed the president-elect's unorthodox verbal tick, which had Mr. Obama employing grammatically correct sentences virtually every time he opened his mouth.

But Mr. Obama's decision to use complete sentences in his public pronouncements carries with it certain risks, since after the last eight years many Americans may find his odd speaking style jarring.

According to presidential historian Davis Logsdon of the University of Minnesota, some Americans might find it "alienating" to have a president who speaks English as if it were his first language.

"Every time Obama opens his mouth, his subjects and verbs are in agreement," says Mr. Logsdon. "If he keeps it up, he is running the risk of sounding like an elitist."

The historian said that if Mr. Obama insists on using complete sentences in his speeches, the public may find itself saying, "Okay, subject, predicate, subject predicate -- we get it, stop showing off."

The president-elect's stubborn insistence on using complete sentences has already attracted a rebuke from one of his harshest critics, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska.

The proper use of the language has always made people appear more sophisticated. The key word is "appear".

Who can forget Audrey Hepburn or for that matter Katherine Hepburn in the classic movies, cast against Humphrey Bogard or Spencer Tracy. Sophistication contrasted with crude street savvy.

Personally I will look forward to hearing a president speaking this way. It will make it easier to understand how he plans to "stick it" to us.
