(well, almost everone)... but it's still a 'tabboo' subject.

I'm talking about masturbation.

Why is it that a practice that the vast majority of people do - and enjoy regularly - is still such a secretive subject? Why, in the more permissive age we live in is masturbation still considered 'dirty' and shameful when almost anything else goes, sexually?

I'd like to pose a serious question:

If, along with sex-ed at school, you were told - and taught - about masturbation, would you now feel more comfortable talking about it, less comfortable or about the same?

A secondary question to the parents who have school-age kids: would you be happy for your sons and daughters to be told about masturbation, given what you know now?

It's not as taboo as it used to be. Hell, there's commercials for "pleasure aids" on TV!

I don't view it as dirty, and I never have. I view it as something that guys should do in private, or on their own property(like in their own car, etc), because otherwise it's pretty dirty, because there's obviously stuff to clean up. Women can do it wherever they want though, and that's not a double standard, it's because 1) they can be a lot more discreet about it, while not bothering or exposing themselves to anybody, and 2) they don't have to clean up as much obviously

I don't care if somebody teaches my kid(when I have one or more) about masturbation, but I'm not going to. It's not like sex, it's not really a big thing.

Hmmm. Sex ed in school has always brought about controversy but i feel it's necessary. Teaching masturbation in school tho is kind of an up in the air subject. I can't really find and statistical studies showing weather or not it would be a good idea to teach about it in class tho. What are the pros? Cons? etc...

But i think that it should be taught, if not for the sake of testing new teaching methods, to see what kind of benefits it could yield.

But on an emotional standpoint, I'd probably feel a little more comfortable about talking about it if it were taught

 

I'm a huge wanker - and so i dont think masturbation is dirty - i think it is erotic - massively so!

And I want my lads to be taught about it at school - but if they ask - I'll deal with it with tact and diplomacy - as you say we all do it - just not in front of Granny ok ?

discovering jerking off is a part of growing up, and unlike with sex there's no STDs or pregnancy issues soo there's really no need to teach it.

I know I wouldn't be. I'm as comfortable as I'll ever be about the subject of masturbation. I do it when I'm allowed to.. as much as I'm allowed to. I have in front of my fiance. I think that teaching children about masturbation could help in some situations, it's a healthy thing that we do for release. And its a very safe alternative to sex. I'm for general instruction about it.. but without the diagrams, it'll be nicer if the teachers give a few internet links or handouts if the kids want them.. 6-7th grade plus..

 

Everybody always did it, it is just the old Victorian codes of conduct that we still seem to be under in the US. Why do we embrace violence such as in our movies but when it comes to sex and porn and masturbation, it is all a big naughty secret? Who me?, not me? At the same time I, ME, believe our society is oversaturated with sex. When gradeschoolers have access to online porn, hardcore porn, that is a problem. Quite the paradox we live under. I believe men might masterbate just a bit more than women. Dkr.................. 5-4

Masturbation is a voyage of self discovery - there is little chance of enjoying the act of sex itself if you don't know already how you like to be touched, and what 'gets you off' more effectively.

Once you bring the act of masturbation into a clinical setting, like being taught in a school for instance - you take away the exploration, the discovery and make it a mechanical process.

I really do not believe it's something that can be taught - like how to avoid STD's and pregnancy, mathematics, grammar etc. In sex ed, they don't teach the actual act of sex, they teach the science - and as there's no right or wrong way of having sex or masturbating that could not be taught!!

Leave it out of the classroom, let kids find out for themselves!! Tsk!!

I was wondering if masturbation was more openly discussed whether younger kids' curiosity about sex would be satisfied to any extent, thereby leading to a reduction in the too-high incidences of teenage pregnacies?

Personally, I believe that the way sex-ed is taught is too clinical, anyway, giving rise to more curiosity than answering any questions in curious teenage minds.

Maybe this is a bigger subject?

Actually thinking it through it doesnt need to be taught - other than be told it is natural, fun and not something "dirty" at all

 

Masturbation is a healthy practice when like anything ,is not over used or abused.

A couple of the little known downfalls are,Masturbation teaches the Male body to "get there" rather quickly. This can be a downfall when you do hook up with a partner.

Another thing is, just how much blood and nutrition it takes to replace the semen your body has lost due to frequent ejaculations.

Too much masturbation can effect your physical health and your energy level as well.

Lolls - what the hell are you suggesting here? That kids are exposed to a live sex show all in the interest of education? That's the only way to get away from 'clinical'.

Sex ed is giving children a background into sex - not a bloody full on tutorial of the subject!!

 

Yeh for the full on tutorial they join porn forums and ask if their cock is big enough or if you can get pregnant by kissing
