I agree completely. All the necessary elements of all the other cults are there and all it takes is the word from someone perhaps anyone to come up with another Jonestown, or Waco, or Heaven's Gate on a massive scale.

Obviously its not and that is the reason to care. Jonestown may have come and gone, but then we had Waco. It just goes to show that the phenomena of charismatic leaders and misguided followers is ever present and could happen tomorrow unless we can really come to understand what the dynamics are here and what we can do as humans to safeguard against it.

I forget her name, but as I recall one former member of scientology was preparing to convert back to "normal" society and testify against some practices or something.. I forget alot of the specifics now.. but anyway...

Apparently the "cult" owns a hotel in california if I recall... and it's here she met a rather untimely demise under extremely suspicious circumstances. I remember seeing some bits and pieces about it on Youtube.

Apparently these people are pretty serious when it comes to keeping their secrets. Like CIA serious and if I recall even implanted people into the IRS to bug and steal tax records that may have been incriminating at the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if those same practices occur in other major religions, (Catholicism in particular comes to mind) they just have it down to a better science then the "new kids" on the "Theological" block so to speak.
