I would tend to agree with that and most likely do the same.

However, the OP asked a question and a discussion followed that question. My posts were intended to provoke a thought process other than an emotional one.

So in that light, the legality question is quite valid, don't you think?

 

Fair enough. If it were up to me, I'd pass a law that treated assisted suicide in the same manner as living wills and limited powers of attorney, that allow family members to make such decisions.

 

Sounds good, shall we champion this cause.

I can see now this I should have added that it would be an assisted suicide
(as in the article) as it goes without saying if you were able bodied and could do it totally by yourself, law would make no difference. But what of assisted by medical personnel or under the care of a doctor.

 

A lot can stop a healthy person from committing suicide: religious beliefs, having the church condemn your death and refuse your funeral, leaving your loved ones behind, fear and the most obvious reason being immense pain.

I could never kill anyone either. However in some situations: death may be more humane than life.

This might sound fucked up. I wish it there was a suicde ceremony like a marriage or something where all your family and friends gather to support and celebrate your decision. It should be ALWAYS assisted by professionals to ensure the most painless death possible. I believe it should be a right, if we have supposed "free will" as humans, to take our own life for whatever reason even if you aren't all bedridden and in pain. I think people know when it's best to fold or maybe even quit while they are ahead.

 

It is, technically, killing somebody. I'm all for it though. I agree that there should be some form of clinic or something similar for assistance

 

As a potential suicidee, I offer the following:

The Romans had it right. Once determination was made to do it, you set the date, invited all your friends for a farewell party, then at the appointed time sat yourself down in a comfortable chair, a bucket beside the arm, and then opened a vein in your arm to bleed into the bucket. A fairly painless death, like going to sleep as you ex-sanguinated. Today a local anesthetic on the arm would even eliminate the brief pain of the cut, or you could simply insert a hypodermic into the vein and let it bleed out through the syringe.

Another way is to simply overdose yourself with insulin or sleeping pills.

Today the problem is that all your friends would then be charged as accomplices to murder.

Unfortunately some people have decided to do it and take an innocent party with them by a head-on collision on the road.

The Northern Territory in Australia enacted lgislation to allow euthanasia and things went very well until the Big Brother federal government stepped in and ended the party, damn shame. We should ask Dr Kervorkian about his opinions

Yes, but if things like that are stopping a person, then their situation isnt really desperate enough for suicide to be a serious option. If a physically healthy person is seriously considering going through with suicide, nothing in this life is worth holding onto (ie loved ones, religion, etc), and moving on to whatever after life they believe in is the only option in their mind.

As for pain being an issue, it's not hard to make suicide painless. Overdose, shotgun to the head, theres way to many ways for around the pain issue.

 

dont remember where it was or when, but there once was a king who literally outlawed death. the death rate declined until the king himself died, then the law was removed. wierd huh?
