You would almost certainly be wrong. In almost every community in England, people continue to believe that a "grass" is the most despicable of all people, and refuse to co-operate with the authorities as a matter of principle.

 

actually i agree totally with heyesey's post, although it's scotland as well as england. it starts at primary school: if a kid hits you or pulls your hair and you tell the teacher, you're bullied for being a grass. in high school: if someone's selling drugs in the toilets, or beats someone up and you know who it is, you can't say because you'd be a grass. in work: if someone's getting paid the same as you but they're playing games all the time, or using msn etc, you can't grass them up.

chunky's opinions on the uk police force are almost certainly correct, but they still won't get any cooperation from the public while this stupid cultural ideal continues.

the problem is society, here in the usa , we have to many bleeding hearted liberals in charge. we have the death penalty here , we should use it more effective. but no''' you can appeal your crimes for years on end and live off the taxpayers . what we really need in the usa, for capital murder cases and attempted murder is a a expresslane to the exicutioner. that is the best detterent. dont know how it works in uk. just my thoughts

Just saying it's a deterrent doesn't make it one. There is absolutely ZERO correlation between the presence or absence of a death penalty, and the number of murders and/or serious crimes committed in a given country.

It is a 100% certainty that the criminal who has been executed, will not repeat their crimes.

 

Which proves it's no deterrent, or they'd not have committed any in the first place.

to me we ought ot go back as it was in the old days and all murders or prisoners without a chance to get out of prison should be killed as it costs everyone whom pays taxes 100 g a year to house them that would save us over 1 billon a year and we need to enforce the maxamum punshment for all serious crimes insted of most getting off easy if there was the max alot of these crimes wouldnt be as much crime,
as far as the killing of the lifers i would volenteer to be a shooter of these as long as i would get a small amount of pay and travel expences i have not heart for ones whom kill or do major crimes

if such an act happened in Singapore these men would at least get 20 years behind bars and minimum 24 strokes of the cane.

not to mention what they would be going through in prison.

I second that....as a matter of fact a few summers ago I was visiting my grandparents in IL and there was this guy who came over a lot always asking to borrow something...well one time my grandfather was in the hospital [he was in an out a lot for a few years] ok so there was a computer in some room where you could just relax you know..I can't remember who started it but possibly my aunt looked up sex offenders in our area, one of the first few she saw was that same guy who came over all the time...the next I saw him I was out playing in the yard with my cousin who was about 5 then, I told him if I ever saw him come near our yard again I would personally take a knife to his dick......child molesters, rapists, etc. any variation of that, never get enough time...they deserve so much worse than what they get
