crazy az indian: My poor sister has two kids - both alcoholics, how many times have they "dried out?" at least 20. The son is, or was, a world class violinist, even some well known world class ones have complimented him, he got a music phd, has been a concert master in a number of symphonies, has written books on music and gives the royalties to his mother, yet due to his continual drinking and showing up drunk he lost every job he ever had, has attempted suicide, damaged his hand and arm so he can no longer play, and is now between drunks bagging groceries at age 50. He is also a registered sex offender allegedly for exposing himself to a child he was babysitting. His attorney told him to plea bargain and plead guilty. He had no idea of the repercussions.

Her daughter is a registered nurse, for how much longer I don't know. She has been a drunk since her teens too. My sister went to live with her after the school district she worked for since 1970 told her they were only giving her 12 hours a week starting in September. She had to default on everything she owed, money she borrowed to cover the 2 months a year the school district had no classes. Now she says her daughter is sneaking drinks at home or going out to sneak them. I know her husband told her that one more time he will leave her. My sister also says that if she gets one more DUI she will get six months in jail.

They got the drunk gene from my father. Thank the gods neither I nor my sisters got it. I rarely take more than one drink, and at the most two.

The two times in my life I got drunk accidentally I threw up. The last time was too many sangrias at a school superintendents house. I lay down on their bed to recover after for about an hour while my wife visited them more. This was in 1982.

I will have nothing more to do with my nephew as when I was in the hospital in rehab after my heart surgery in 2004, I let him use my apartment.

I needed my diabetic supplies for him to bring me. He started drinking and stayed drunk in my apartment for 3 days. My sister couldn't drive at that time either. He also lost the keys which I later found and it cost me $50 to unlock my office door. He had left them in the ashtray of one of the cars. It was months before I found them.

I make it a point to not associate with alcoholics or heavy drinkers at all.. I have never met an alcoholic that was permanently "cured." They are only in remission. It is genetic and they have no control over it except the will power to NOT DRINK, unfortunately that never seems to last, at least with the ones I know.

 

Great, I can't sleep and I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning! Damn these changing work schedules!

 

My poor dog was outside, doing her business, and it just cut loose and poured rain on her! Also, it's 50 degrees outside.
