Sorry to be selfish but there is noone and nothing in my life I would die for. It would only happen if i'd had children.

 

On a serious note, there was a time when I wore a green uniform and was trained in killing people and breaking things, so I once volunteered to put my life on the line for my country, and would do so again.

 

True, but if I remember correctly, the focus of the story was not on God's mercy at the last second, but more of a testament to the pure faith of Abraham who would do anything that his god asked him, even if it meant slaughtering his own child.

Not so lucky was the child of Jeptha who was sacrificed to god after Jeptha won a battle. For those of you who don't know, Jeptha swore to god that if he won an upcoming battle that he would sacrifice the first person he saw upon arriving home. The first person he saw was his young daughter who came running out to greet her father after his long time away. So Jeptha sent her off for a few months to mourn her virginity and when she came back, he promptly killed her.

Fair point; but if you could give your own life to save that person, I'm guessing you would. That's what I would mean by "give my life for my love." Otherwise, you're into the realms of Monty Python, with soldiers proving how willing they are to die for their country by all throwing themselves off a cliff.

If my love asked me to prove my love for her by killing myself, she wouldn't still BE my love any more. :excited:
