I don't believe that giving someone a name is evidence of abuse. I realize these are not the everyday names we are accustomed to, but it's another example of an over-controlling gov't. You said it right..."America was big on rights"....not the case anymore. IMO

 

When did giving your child a very unpopular name became child abuse. His name is Adolf Hitler Campbell. Which in most cases he would be referred to as Adolf Campbell in school. I might be able to understand if they named him Asshole or Shithead Campbell.

The state has no business deciding what a child can or cannot be named, it's overstepping their bounds. Germany has enough problems in this area. So long as no actual abuse takes place within the home, these obviously misguided people should get their child back.

I think it is weird anyway that you can name your children every name over there anyway....there are children being called Chocolate, Apple, and Chicargo....what the heck?
Some people believe your name reflects who you are.....how can someone grow up being called LasVegas or Chocolate? You have to admit, thats a bit far off

well the parents could just be white supremacists not Nazi sympathizers, even though they claim that the kids have black friends (remembering back to what i read about the cake incident).

as for the state taking the children i think its wrong if it was just for the names, however my theory is the state took them because as the article claims they were in "imminent danger" because of all the death threats being sent to the family.

I mean with censorship. The German Government seems to want to wipe from existence any far right organization they deem unacceptable. They imprison holocaust deniers, they ban far right publications, fascist imagery, and speaking demonstrations. While I don't agree with neo-nazis nor fervent nationalists, they should be able to speak their minds freely.

I personally am very opposed to any kind censorship, but if there is an organization that is directly tied to violence, then there might need to be limitations. But back to the OP, while the kid's parents may be racists/bigots, if they haven't been directly tied to violence or violent organizations, then how do you limit free speech? I went to school with a kid whose name was - and I promise I'm not making this up, though changing the actual name for anonymity - "Lewis Lewis Lewis." While a disctinction could obviously be made between this repetitive name and naming your child after a man responsible for genocide, where is the line drawn? Yes, these parents may be terrible people and indoctrinating their children with hatred, but aren't lots of other parents doing the same thing, even though they may have more political foresight than to name their kids so outrageously?
