Incest in and of itself doesn't cause birth defects.

The genetic issue with incest is that the offspring of two people that are blood related will have limited genetic diversity.

When two people procreate, in the right situation, each person will have differing genetics. Those combine, and the genetic diversity helps protect the child against genetic issues.

For example one parent could have genetics that make the child less protected against Down syndrome, but the other parent may have genes that help fight it.

With incest, you don't get that protection. You have one set of genetics, and after successive generations it becomes more and more likely that your inbred children will have major problems.

The familial bond is there to stop us from having sex with family members, because it is a BAD idea from an evolutionary perspective, to procreate in such a way. Biology tries as hard as it can to stop us from messing with that.

Genetic diversity = stronger children

Inbred genetics = more likely that your children will have major developmental issues due to limited diversity.



Also, I'm sure most of the stories on here are completely fabricated.

 

I am sure that some of the incest tales are fabricated, but I think most are probably real.

One thing noone on here has mentioned, is that for hundreds of years incest was a completely acceptable thing to do in many societies, some even encouraged it, some just approved of it. Europeans used it to keep royal bloodlines "pure"( It is believed that some of the later generations in royal families did suffer some genetic problems, that resulted from too many generations of incest) In some polynesian societies it was just an acceptable thing to do, not used for any particular purpose, but just to allow to people that love eachother to be together.

I have not had any incest, but if two people are consenting then that is up to them

 

Why cling to customs that are centuries outdated?

We humans have done a lot of stupid things in our past, and at one point or another, absolutely anything has been common place.

Go back far enough and rape has been common, sex with children has been common or encouraged, any other barbaric act you can think of has been common place at some time in history.

You can use that reasoning to rationalize anything you want.

We know much better now. We know that incest causes genetic issues, it has been seen time and time again and the effects can still be seen, particularly in areas of the world where incest is still common (the middle east?)

We are supposed to be improving and moving forward as a society, not clinging on to outdated customs out of sexual deviancy.

Personally I don't even care if people want to make babies with family members. It's not my families genetics they're screwing up, not my problem.

I would NEVER do it though, and my familial bonds are working fine. I have zero attraction to my parents or any siblings except cousins, and I would never make babies with them despite the genetic diversity being better in a case like that.

There's over 6,000,000,000 people in the world, theres no reason for incest today. It's the easy way out, why go and conquer a mate when you can just make genetically inferior babies at home?

 

From real life expierience , and from one who never indulged , I believe there is more than most people would know or think.
I'm talking concensual incest.
As to on the internet and sights like this , who will ever know , some is obviously just absoute bullshit , as in many subjects , the rest , how can you tell ? ? ? ?

personally I have been molested and raped by family members. I see posts like that and I wouldn't EVER tell my story... to get someone off. I had a hard time coming to grips why a grown man would do that to a child. So a lot of it is pure crap. Some.... is real I guess. I had a uncle who made me think he was going to marry me when I got old enough and that is what good little girls do. So think what you will.

It does happen though.
