A troll can be considered to be anyone who makes someone angry.
Many people get angry when their prejudices are challenged.

My concern is not with trolls, but with internet tough guys. Definitions

Reading that trolling description, I have to say that, 1) it sounds like an heck of a lot of work, to annoy a few people you don't even know, and 2) the whole "strategic troll" description reads like an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons rulebook - I mean, what next? This?

Rule 3a. in the Official Boy Scout Handbook insistently discourages burning boy scouts at the stake. While that would be going far and beyond the learning of how to start a fire and cook a meal over the grill, one would not earn any badges for this activitiy.

 

Ah yes, but if you roll a D12, then you can use the "power of hypnosis" spell combined with the "immolation" spell, and persuade the boy scouts that burning themselves at the stake, really will earn them a badge! :satisfied:

Or tying up a voodoo doll dressed in a Boy Scout Uniform with the scout's name and troop number on it and then is doused with something flammable MAY cause the Boy Scout to spontaneous combust wherever he is. The ability to do this may warrant you some special merit points depending on how obnoxious the scout was and according to what troop you belonged such as the Voodoo Boy Scouts.

One might also want to reserve this special ritual for an Eagle Scout.

I'm alwaya struck by the wonderful irony of threads and posts that continue discussions of trolls and trolling - when, by definition, the only way to make them go away is to ignore.

Perhaps we should start a thread on the demise of personal discipline, or how to avoid becoming an ironic stereotype?

 

A) people will always feed trolls, a least a little. Some are harmless, obvious trolls, ie "playtime trolls".
I see no harm in feeding some trolls, we can always turn the tables on them, or ignore them, if they get too annoying.

B) Yes, personal discipline, suppress the knee jerk posting, when and where possible!
oam Socks are not necessarily trolls, and vice versa. Many `regs' show `troll-like behavior', but also can be respected posters(at least to most).

This brings me back to my Troll Thread on a CBS board, the trolls came alright, and then some were upset when I called out their socks(alts) as trolls.
A master troll is a different story, as he/she can have a platoon to send forth, and when one is suspect, he puts it to sleep, and brings out another, or two...or three!
