So you're telling me we have not identified diseases and disorders that are passed down through DNA from parent to child and so on? And you're telling me we can not do genetic screening to identify genetic markers that may indicate one would be susceptible to those conditions?

And, the behavior they're talking about was how people react to lower serotonin levels, specifically male and female. Which already fits in with what I said in that there are differences between male and female. We really are wired differently, I'm not disputing that. The crux of the argument is if your genes cause you to be a criminal or some other undesirable to society as a whole and there is no data to support that. Unless you consider depression, which was what the article mainly dealt with, as criminal.

No, DL has. And by trying to support the 'genes influence behavior' angle that he espouses, you are–perhaps unintentionally–lending support to that idea as well. And I already said yesterday (for me, anyway) that genes do not guarantee you would get a disease or a condition, but it could lead to it. We all have cancer genes but not all of us get it.

You will get it if you have the dominant genes for red hair, yes. But having the genes for it does not mean you will get it. I have in my make-up both the genes for blue eyes and brown eyes as my mother has brown, my father blue. The gene that determined the blue was dominant so I have blue eyes. But I still carry the gene for the brown eyes, just as I carry the genes for a great many other traits, diseases, disorders and conditions that my ancestors had at one point or another. But I'm not going to get all of those things. I might get something, but I won't get all, because they're not all dominant. So far though, I'm healthy. Both my grandfather and my grandmother had/have cancer (on my mother's side). Will I get it? I don't know. It's more likely now since it's been demonstrated that it 'runs in the family' as the saying goes.

But I'm a little confused. It seems to me that you said earlier that diseases and disorders are not passed down through genes, now you're saying that diseases and disorders are like hair color and if it's dominant, you'll get it.

Which is it?
