To start I never classified them as "real men". Secondly, American football requires an extreme skill set. Those x's and o's are more difficult than any sport, game plans are worked out long days all week between games. As far as the athletes they are world class that require more conditioning and are subject to injuries that some prima donna soccer player would never accept as a condition of their sport. You can like rugby, soccer, Aussie football all you want, don't ever belittle the skill and athleticism of American football players. You talk of scoring against defenders that can't touch or grab you as being so skillful, it is nothing compared to scoring against men who can not only touch or grab, but against those that do a hell of a lot more than just touch or grab. Just catching a rocket pass from Bret Favre is difficult, to catch it when being defended and knowing a bone jarring hit is coming takes extreme concentration and no fear. Yes, as you said, "real men" would be a good description of American footballers.

Here you go notice, i've took the liberty of taking out the other stuff you talked about so i could highlight, were you talk of American Footballer's being 'real men'., hope you don't mind. So as you can see it was 'you' and not me that said they were 'real men'.

Right guessing you don't know much about football, oh and before you jump, i mean our football, so i will enlighten you.

First of all...football players don't just come on the field and then start kicking a ball. They have lots of practice too that has to take place. The game and the way they attack and defend is all skill and takes alot of practice. They train most days....its a full time job!!

Secondly most of the players are on the pitch for 90 minutes, not including added time, for stoppage or injury. They play for 45 mins then get a 15min break then another 45 mins. while playing they run up and down, sorry sprint up and down a pitch that is 110 x 75 yards for that amount of time. They don't get to come off every 10 minutes or so. So i think we can easily see that in order to have that level of stamina not to mention endurance, are football players are very fit athletes too!!!

As for belittling your sport, hey its just my opinion, as you yourself have your own and you and your supporters don't mind belittling mine at every given opportunity.
No its not tit for tat, i'm more mature than that. I don't really understand your sport, to me its just like our ruby, like i have said, only you wear lots of protective gear. Your sport as you have pointed out yourself is about, who hits the hardest, quote

"catching a rocket pass from Bret Favre is difficult, to catch it when being defended and knowing a bone jarring hit is coming takes extreme concentration and no fear. Yes, as you said, "real men" would be a good description of American footballers."

I wont bother about the real men quote, as we both know that you said it first now, from the first quote i posted of yours.

Finally this is a thread about FOOTBALL not 'American Football', you already have a thread for that. I was hoping to talk and debate with people who love the same sport as mine, not keep going over which is best 'American football' or our football. So i have said my piece on it, and will leave it there.

ok so whats the thoughts about the final top 4 eligibles for next years champions league...

first off i would like to say

    1. Liverpool
    2. Chelsea
    3. Man U
    4. Arsenal
    ----------
    5. Spurs
    6. Man City

i added in 5th n 6th coz i do believe these teams will be really strong and there may not be a lot in the top 6 by the end of the day.

Liverpool coz i couldnt pick anyone else and just you all wait till they get going proper - long live Benitez!

Chelsea and Man U seem quite similar to me overall but i think Man U are nowhere near the form of last year and were lucky to take the title over the course of the season (so many unconvinging 1-0 wins with quite a few of those coming as a result of the mysterious adding on enough minutes to break the deadlock tactic). Chelsea look stronger and more powerful to stretch the season but will be pipped at the post by the reds!

Arsenal is a tricky one coz i always see them as capitulating in the last third after a strong start but this year im not so sure. possibly will do better than man u and that would please me greatly.

city i would like to think are real title challengers but i think they wont be ready this time around. Spurs have an energy and passion about them thats proving to be really effective. if someone was to break into the top 4 it might be them you never know (and please let that mean that man u drop out!)

o_O are you a Liverpool supporter??
If not, thank you for putting Liverpool at the top of the list...i'm so hoping so this season, was gutted last.

I think if Liverpool go out with the conviction and determination, we could easily win every game...its just our inconsistency that lets us down:(

Winning the prem would be a dream, we were so close last year and it came down to 3 bloody points...i felt so sick.

This season we, will take what should of been ours last season!!!

Yep chelsea, United and Arsenal will defo qualify. City have a good team with the likes of the new signings, tevez (united were very stupid to give him up) but i can't really see them coming in the top 4. As for spurs, yeah they are playing good now, but they did that last season and then never came anywhere really. Still its early days and anything can and no doubt will happen.

One of the things i love about this game, you can never predict what will happen. Love football:excited:

transfer deadline day... wasnt that exciting as it has been the previous years did you team get your target?

man united for the premiership title :) i understand people are saying that last year about 1-0 wins but still are they not wins and if they were so easy why didnt your team put more of them away?

im a very definately Liverpool red and delighted to be so. bit disappointed there has not been some miraculous shock signing by the 5pm deadline but regardless of that i think we will come good and be the force to be reckoned with.

we are undoubtedly missing alonso but if we can hold it together until our injuries are all cleared up then we will be back with a bang and that has gotta hurt the rest. im looking forward to seeing aquilani's efforts to fill alonso's boots and as soon as the defence is all injury free i think it will be the strongest defence in the league by far.

we so should have bought another top striker though. we are a team thats currently (without injuries) set up to be so effective away from home and that goes for both the premiership and the champions league. everyone else must surely fear us visiting their grounds. but we badly need a home formation to combat the opponents who either sit in and defend with their lives or come out all guns blazing to have a go with nothing to lose. we need to be playing 4-4-2 with 2 out n out star strikers at home and a settled strong attack minded midfield with our normally strong defence. torres should be partnered with another top striker instead of trying to use the likes of voronin or stretching gerrard thin on the ground making him less effective. we need to keep gerrard free to hit them where it hurts.

yeah i thought the title should have been ours last year and if it wasnt for that inconsistency you were talking about it sure would have been. man u were very unconvincing champions. so many poor games with lucky points taken late in the game. on the other hand liverpool were always involved in exciting battles and some games were epic, not just the 4-4's

yeah i gotta agree with you, its all so unpredictable and exciting most of the time. i wished for it but i didnt expect burnley to beat man u! that was supreme (and much needed from our point of view). who could have predicted us starting so badly on day one, or should that be spurs starting so well?

spurs are improving on the end of last season after an atrocious start. we definately need to watch out for them this time around, like i say, if anyone will break the top 4 it looks most likely to be them.

agree with you about tevez. i think by the end it couldnt be stopped. sounds like fergie took him for granted and never paid him any attention or respect while he was with the club. so as much as tevez may have wished the opposite was the case fergie made sure that he would be headed elsewhere and no amount of summer grovelling would have made any difference. i guess fergie still has a lot to learn about handling footballers too. i could not believe they took owen but was thankful we didnt take him back! sure he was a great when he was with us but i cant help but be disappointed that he would ever consider signing for man u after being a Liverpool legend. he is off the xmas card list for good and i cant see him being all that much good these days anyway so good luck to them.
