I have nothing against Liverpool, why would I want to crucify you? I'm a football fan first and foremost, then country and then club. We make a point about what each others club is upto on this thread, as you well know filling it with your love for Liverpool. I could talk about about the penalty decissions in Barnsley V Sheff Unt last night but no one is really going to talk about that on here as we talk about our teams.

Where you not the guy who pointed out football is a contact sport? Can you no longer slide in to block shots?[/QUOTE]

yes it is a contact sport and i dont think i was directing my comments at you. you tend to be reasonable. the contact he was gonna make at the speed of his desperate defensive lunge was going to be a little more contact than N'gog could have coped with side on like that. Im glad he avoided it also considering the size of carsley. i have watched it many times today and i conclude this

if he hadnt avoided the challenge then Carsley would likely not have contacted the ball due to having to slice through Ngog's leg to get it. That would have been a sending off, a penalty and yet another long term major injury for Liverpool. Then the penalty and sending off would have seemed like a cheap payment for what he did.

by avoiding the challenge that would have led to above he removed all possibility of taking or creating a scoring opportunity. Thats football.

If the ref had not given a penalty then nobody would have said a word having seen the replay and i cant see N'Gog chasing after him to get one either.

Because he did give the penalty i think it would be fair to say that the impending challenge and its aggressive intent could well have been punished fairly.

if N'gog had not avoided the challenge then Carsley would have been sent off.

Is this situation similar to the beach ball goal?

No because after careful consideration i would say that given both incidents and the loss of a goal, as a Liverpool supporter, i would rather have players and referee's judgement calls leading to the loss of a goal everytime. I have never been more frustrated at the plain stupid awarding of a goal resulting from such a complete farce in my entire life. actually no the last time before that was when chelsea were awarded a penalty for backing into an imaginary liverpool defender and falling down because he wasnt there 2 years ago

playing for a draw might be the best smaller teams can expect in general terms but thats only because they need more encouragement to win at all times. as do some of the big boys from time to time.

its for this reason that i have long believed that the points awarding system should be win driven and goal encouraging and make away teams go and play while they are at it:

no score draw = 0 points
    score draw = 1 point

home defeat should be something like -2 points
    away defeat -1 point

    home win 3 points
away win 4 or 5 points

this would have opened up birminghams defence a bit and they would have had the chance to win simply by scoring more than us! much fairer and much more value for money for the paying fans in the ground too i might add (especially away fans seeing their team having a go)

at the moment little teams have a go when they have nothing left to lose but with negative points (if clubs can be deducted points before the season starts for non footballing reasons then they can bloody well have them deducted for poor efforts) they always have something to lose!

i think you would find that the winner of this points league would prove to be a far more worthy winner also

PLEASE NOTE: Liverpool would have beaten manure by a mile using this system last year although it wasnt scripted to be so. Im sure we would be a damn site worse off this year if this was in use but i still like it a lot. We were the better team in the league overall last year and it was not reflected in the final placings because the league is not adapting appropriately

Hey Tom you are talking to a Man City fan and for all of this "richest club in the world" bollocks I still have faith in our ability to fuck up even the simplest of tasks.

    American football is the best!

The only reason SOCCER is popular is because 3rd world counties dont have anything ells to do but kick shit around in the dust.... and rugby has contact but not as hard as FOOTBALL, they grapple they dont go head on...

Take your soccer word and shove it. Have you played all three to compare them or is it just your opinion?

Oh and the only reason Grid Iron isnt popular is becasue of stupid comments from people like you.

Just not fair to implement that, the players that Liverpool can field are so much more talented as individuals than Hull. All Hull can hope for in that circumstance is to work out a tactic, stick to it and play as a team. If the distribution of players was fairer than maybe that would encourage teams to play attacking football. But with all the top players going to the top clubs what else can you expect? Not like the old days when clubs were made up of local lads.

oh i dont agree, Rafa needs to stay. Bill Shankly would be struggling just now with the massive amount of injuries we have right now

a lot of people pick on Rafa for a few things that are easy to attack. like zonal marking for example. he has never done anything else and we didnt give a shit about zonal marking last year when we were the tightest defence in the league or when we were banging the goals in and becoming the least defeated team in the league.

sure he was annoying when he kept rotating the team so much i was way beyond dizzy and felt a bit sick at times. but just like everyone else he finally admitted defeat there (or was happy to go with a more unchanged side).

every manager has their failings, but Rafa is one of the best tacticians in the business and when it comes to it i would rather have him directing the team than someone else. things can be a damn site worse.

he probably has other failings some of which we would never readily know about. he probably has other facets of his management that are brilliant which we might not readily know about, but Rafa has my vote overall and i would definately rather have him than fergie right now or anyday.

Ohh I cant let you compare rafa to Bill Shankly, his not fit to wipe his arse. Shankly is one of the games legends, Rafa is just a good manager.

it would be a lot fairer. it would ensure that the smaller teams HAD to have a go and we all know what can happen when you just go out there and give it a right good go. who knows how far that can get a minnow. this system would be better for minnows than it would be for the big boys who regularly would not know what had hit them.

the league is obviously getting tighter and thats what we wanted. now its time to evolve it further still.

i suppose its possible that this could work in reverse and widen the gulf between top and bottom again but thats really just hesitant clap-trap and i would rather know that the likes of hull and wigan and stoke etc have shown plenty of times in the past that with the right encouragement they are worth so much more than the media assisted giants would like to think.

you know the skybet tagline "it matters more when theres money on it"
i love that and im damn sure "it matters more when theres hard won points at stake"

i would be surprised if anyone out of the usual big 4 were to complain about this restructured points proposal. after all the possibility is that other teams start heading towards being giants in the game and that undoubtedly balances out the marketability of all teams more meaning that the big 4 are less popular and therefore less money spent on their merchandise

I've played all three (and there are two forms of rugby)

I am not sure about this but I think I remember a report that soccer, as you like to call it, is becoming more popular than Grid Iron in American schools for two reasons. The kit required is less expensive and fewer serious injuries.

Cant agree with you, I feel it wouldnt make any difference. You can only play to your abilities. Doesnt matter how much will you have to go out and win if you ainst good enough you need a game plan. Teams like Ars£nal will just pass you off the pitch.

Shankly and Dalglish are up there as my all time greats of all time and if it was possible to replace Rafa with Bill then i would sign the dotted line in a heartbeat. But Rafa is still a lot better than just good, sorry

Wish I had played league, thats a real tough game. I think its tougher than union and Grid Iron, but never having played it, I cant be sure. I hope football doesnt become bigger than gridiron as I love it, would hate to see it suffer becasue of football. Happy for the rest of the world to play football

so can you explain the FA CUP GIANT KILLER PHENOMENON in some way alternative to equating either have a go and have it all or try to hold out for penalties but lose it all to a fairer reward in terms of points for achievement.

deep down you know im right and it was the minnows exploits in the cup that led me to this conclusion although originally i didnt feel the need to reward away wins higher. but lets face it, if you lose in front of your home crowd you are not doing something right and if you win away then you definately are doing something right
