i love watching american football too. it wont become bigger in america because american football is such a way of life for so many and they treat it the same way we do football in the uk.

its so so different from football though and its also very exciting to watch although i must admit it took years to be able to watch it and follow it and appreciate it for what it is. having tried playing it i can quite easily say i would come away feeling better after 20 games of rugby of any kind than i would leaving an american football field unless i was the kicker (although sometimes they get a good mauling too).

Its a great game, playing it makes it a lot easier to undrstand. Definitly left the american football pitch in a worse state than when i left a football pitch but I would say about the same as rugby.

IMO rugby league is also the fastest of the ball games not only do you have to be tough you have to be fit.
I played rugby league at school so it's quite a while ago. I played rugby union, football and cricket at University and whenever possible afterwards. Grid Iron I played only a for a year when I first moved to Holand which is now 18 years ago.

The only thing I still play is cricket.

this thread has become my top favourite on here although some of the posts are just pure pish from time to time.

I think everyond who regulary posts in this thread puts thought and theory in to their post. Football is a gane of opinion for fans, based on our loyalty, taste and experience. No one opiniö is right. You show me a thinking on football and ill show you the complete opposite that worked. Take revie with dirty leeds and cloughs teams. One cheated their way to victory the other got there playing by the rules.

 

Simple game

My son is 10, plays football and I sometimes have to stand in as coach. The only thing I ever say is this is a very simple game that consists of passing the white round thing to someone wearing the same coloured shirt as yourself.

I am not sure anyone would disagree with that but it is surprising how difficult it can be even for overpaid prima dona professionals, let alone 10 year olds.

Thats the clough view and 1 i share but look at how much games are analysed these days with opta stats etc. Managers like sam alardyce spend hours pouring over them.

 

snatching a 1-0 defeat against a giant doesnt get you much in the cup and playing to your strengths is what you should do in every game in every competition you enter. a 1-0 defeat for the bottom league team against the top high flyer might even be considered to be a good result at times depending on the gulf in quality.

however if that game was made more of a cup tie by the addition of points punishment for failure just how much more passion and heart do you think that bottom team will play with to avoid the deduction. i can assure you it will be a lot more. they will try to nick that one goal and if they get it they will try to nick another to rest easier.

failure should be punished, why is football any different to the rest of life? you win games by scoring goals and so why should either team improve their points tally by failing to score at all in a 0-0???

i shouldnt really hark back to last season but its such a good example. why should a team who loses 5 games and draws more games 0-0 wins lots of games 1-0 win the title against a team with only 2 loses, highest goals scored and a low goals conceeded total? its not right and it shouldnt be allowed to happen
