I've played all three, I like footie, but I love to play union, the tactics and disciplines are so hard to master. League is a great spectator sport and one which the US should be able to understand as it resembles grid iron in many respects apart from throwing the ball forward.

Now the game I've played that will wipe most grown men out is RFU Sevens.
Unlike most sports that when they reduce the team size they reduce the pitch size in sevens they don't, it is basically the backs playing each other with a couple of guys from the scrum. It is a killer.

Cup competition are in the main one off matches so why not go all out for the win.
The premiers league is won over 38 matches, so plans and strategies come into effect. So I think 3 for a win and 1 for a draw is quiet fair.
What should be addressed is poor and inconsistent refereeing which at the end of a long season can result in a team being relegated.
Also players who get carded for simulation should be looking at a red not a yellow, it is blatant cheating and should be punished as thus, when enough have been sent off the managers will tell their players not to risk it.

I always went out to win when I played any sport. Everytime I strapped my booys on and pulled a shirt on winning was all that mattered. However, sometimes you played a team that was just better than you. Football is about scoring goals and not conceeding goals, defending is an art. I see your argument but from my point of view when you play a team that is better than you what choice do you have but to play a game that suits you and not them? As I used in an earlier example, Haye vs Valuev at the weekend, Haye boxed a style that suited him, I have seen fights with more punches in one round than they both threw in 12 rounds. It was unattractive but he won, even though many feel he shouldnt have, thats what Birmingham tried to do and they nearlt did win. You may as well abolish the draw all together like the old days, it didnt change anything, teams still drew 0-0 then and the champions under the old system would have still been champions under the three point system.

you had a wage cap (ilegall) and a spending cap (-30 points for over spending) and all players had a star rating and each team had a maximum number of stars for its squad.

result the top 5 teams lose 1/2 there players and the little boys can compete financially

bet no top 5 team fan is in favour of that one though

Just listening to an interview with Graham Poll where they are discussing the Drogba offside situation from the weekend. Interestingly, Poll feels that the goal shouldnt have stood, but if he was the official on the day he would have given the goal. His justification for this is that referees are told how to interpret the laws of the game by FIFA and under the rules he wasnt offside. Yet he agreed that van der sar couldnt dive untill he knew if Drogba was going to touch the ball or not. No wonder refs get it so wrong when the laws are so twisted.
